| Your getting older, what do you miss the most from your youth... Posted: 6/22/2007 3:27:48 PM | Playing outside all summer long... not sitting inside playing video games or watching tv with an MP3 player. Walking along the railroad tracks that ran behind our house and picking huge bowls of blackberries... taking them home rinsing them off and mom putting a bit of sugar on them, then eating them. Riding 3 wheelers and snowmobiles and dirt bikes with my brother and Dad. Christmas at my Aunts house. Camping every summer at the same campground and becoming friends with some of the other regulars that stayed there. Taking a bath, putting on the jammies and watching the Disney movie on Sunday night.... which was most always a narrated movie of some kind of animal....lol. Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Getting up on Saturday morning and doing my chores so that I could watch the scary movies that came on in the early afternoon. Watching ABC's Wide World of Sports with my dad when he actually had the time to sit and watch TV. Pumping the brake pedal for my brother while he was bleeding the brakes on yet again another new car (for him anyway....lol). Walking to the little store down the road ... we lived in the country, no sidewalks, my mom would be all panicky til we got home..... to get a rocket pop (the one that had the wax on the bottom) or some other yummy treat. Riding my lime green bike with the flowered banana seat and sissy bar. Putting cards in the spokes of said bike....lol. The GOOD cartoons that used to be on TV and of course the goofy Syd and Marty Croft shows that used to be on (I seriously think they were high when they made those shows). Making a big bowl of popcorn, putting on my pj's and laying on the livingroom floor with my brother, my sister and my mom and watching the Wizard of Oz every year when it came on. Having my mom take care of me when I was sick..... she used to give me a bell and if I needed anything I just rang it and she would come .... yeah, I am the youngest.... lol.

Playing outside all summer long... not sitting inside playing video games or watching tv with an MP3 player.
Ahh, that brings back memories. We played baseball all summer, or poker or board games, football in the fall, and basketball outside during the winter. If it snowed, we had snowball fights, and built forts and igloos. If it got too hot during the summer, one guy had a pool table in his basement, where we would go spend the day. Other times, we hiked through the woods. Once in a while we'd find Indian arrowheads. Video games and MP3 players didn't exist, but we had 45s, when we saved up enough to buy them.
Where I live now, we don't get very much snow, there are almost no woods, there's plenty of wind, and we get some damn good thunderstorms.

| Your getting older, what do you miss the most from your youth... Posted: 7/9/2007 1:33:21 PM | I miss being irresponsible, immature, and just flat out not caring what happened from one moment to the next. The total spontanious lifestyle of being young. I miss not caring about what people thought or not caring what the long term ramifications of my actions were. No I'm not a felon nor did I commit any other heinous activities while acting in such a manner. It was the whole idea of being FREE and not overly concerned if the girl at the bar blew you off because you just rolled with the punches. Of course as we get older, have children, accumulate debt, etc... we are forced to throw that way of life out (Unless you last name is Hilton). I know that now that I am more serious about life and responsibilties, I don't handle the rejection as well either. I do have momentary lapses from time to time, but the consequences are not a lot of fun. So, for all of those single young people out there, keep blowin sh*t up because you will have to eventually calm down. I feel better already! | |

I reflect back and remember the days when I would be going all day with plenty of energy for more. Now I just don't have the drive and need my late afternoon nap...LOL
I also seem to remember a time when things were simpler and everything in the world made sense. I also miss it when a week was a long time and summer vacation was an eternity.

| Your getting older, what do you miss the most from your youth... Posted: 7/10/2007 9:03:51 PM | Running along a river in the hot sun without a care in the world, skipping stones, playing with pets for hours and teaching them new tricks and not knowing where the time went because nothing else mattered, seeing the look on my lovely mother's face when I would come home with wildflowers picked one by one ... just for her, listening to loud music that the 'old people' always complained about and not knowing what the problem was, putting a bikini on and frolicking around the beach, sleeping in till noon on the weekends, making a snowman, pushing someone into the deep snow and running away like he!! and not thinking about the consequences when they caught me, feeling my mother's loving hand on my forehead when she thought I might be coming down with a fever, wasting hours and hours walking through the wilderness and being in completely awestruck of everything so obviously simple around me that was so natural, saying things that I knew would shock my mother just to get a reaction, giving my dad a playful bear hug and getting one back, laughing loudly and sometimes inappropriately and not really being concerned what others thought of my carefree love for life ..... and on and on ..
Hey .. wait ...
... nothing's changed. I still do all of the things I always have ...still youthful. Some kids never grow up.

Get home after our 3am Denny's visit, crash for about 3 hours, get up and work an early morning 8hr. shift, then come home, laze around for an hr or so, and get ready to hit the town AGAIN.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the single childless days!!! AHAHAHAHAHA
