| SONGS FOR YOUR FUNERAL Posted: 1/21/2006 5:59:02 PM | When I Get Where I am Going by Brad Paisley
When I get where I'm going On the far side of the sky The first thing that I'm gonna do Is spread my wings and fly
I'm gonna land beside a lion And run my fingers through his mane Or I might find out what it's like To ride a drop of rain
Yeah when I get where I'm going There'll be only happy tears I will shed the sins and struggles I have carried all these years And I'll leave my heart wide open I will love and have no fear Yeah when I get where I'm going Don't cry for me down here
I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy And he'll match me step for step And I'll tell him how I missed him Every minute since he left Then I'll hug his neck
So much pain and so much darkness In this world we stumble through All these questions I can't answer So much work to do
But when I get where I'm going And I see my maker's face I'll stand forever in the light Of his amazing grace Yeah when I get where I'm going There'll be only happy tears Hallelujah I will love and have no fear When I get where I'm going Yeah when I get where I'm going

| SONGS FOR YOUR FUNERAL Posted: 1/23/2006 2:03:31 AM | I already told my brother, over 15 years ago, to play: "Worried Blues" Doc Watson version, "Brokedown Palace" by the Grateful Dead, and "Little Martha" by Brother Duane "Skydog" Allman &****y Betts of the Allman Brothers Band. Catering by Jack Daniel, of course. And plant dog roses on my grave! Out! | |

Have you ever been to a funeral?
Choosing pieces of music for one's own funeral service is not only not stupid, it's part of what people do when they make their preferences known as to how they want things "handled". It's no more stupid than specifying cremation over burial.
You may be too young to think about your own death, but trust me, ....it's going to happen one day.

| SONGS FOR YOUR FUNERAL Posted: 1/23/2006 9:18:37 AM | Recently, my girlfriend's husband died. She asked me if I'd burn her some CD's of 60's music for her husband's Wake. She wanted to have music playing in the background. That was their favorite era for music. I was more than happy to do that for her. I put 72 songs on three CD's for her.
I didn't attend the Wake, but she told me that BEFORE the Wake she had listened to the 3 CD's. She said it brought back so many memories of both her husband and her teenage years. It was very bittersweet. She also told me it was a huge hit at the Wake and the best gift I could have given to her.
It was the music those people had listened to when those memories of my girlfriend's husband were being born. It inspired stories and adventures to be shared with one another.
That music was VERY much a part of my girlfriend's husband's life and also the lives of the people who attended the Wake.

| SONGS FOR YOUR FUNERAL Posted: 1/23/2006 10:05:19 PM | My dad has said he wants "When The Saints Go Marching IN", and I agree. A nice upbeat Dixieland Jazz version. I will try and fulfill that request when the time comes.
When my brother passed away in '79, we played "Rivers of Babylon" by Boney M.

| SONGS FOR YOUR FUNERAL Posted: 1/31/2006 8:55:18 PM | Lyric's to White Dove by Lynyrd Skynyrd:
White dove sittin’ on a blackberry bush Is there any questioning why Tell me what heaven you’re bound for today Feel just like I could cry Feel just like I could cry
Little squirrel sitting on a flat slanted rock Wondering where the winter meal is coming from Sick and tired of fighting, I'm gonna lay down my gun Just know that my work is done Just know that my work is done
Little boy blue now come blow your horn No more of the sheep is around Said I’m tired of fighting, gonna lay down my gun Just know that my work is done Just know that my work is done Just know that my work is done Just know that my work is done
