| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 9/12/2008 4:12:43 AM | | Unfortunately, those are the type of rappers the record companies are looking for. Thats the form of hip hop thats hot now and its selling millons of records. So as long as the record companies are making fist full of dollars of thiese artist, you will continue to hear them rap about rims and chains. I myself listen to some of the stuff today, but i dont tune in to the radio stations to get my hip hop(worse place to go for music). | |

Posted: 9/13/2008 4:16:21 PM | | Hip hop will never die, if it's not on the radio, it'll be on the street, the exposure on the radio over here in the UK is minimal and only a few commercial artists get on air. In the USA it's much bigger, and the radio is dominated by Hip Hop artists.

No thank you--I like my ears far too much to subject them to such unnecessary and agonizing torture.

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 9/16/2008 11:32:55 PM | i love how sexykitty is ignorant enough to say hiphop doesnt take real talent.. Hiphop is totally different then rap, and they both take extreme talent to create like any other music, to come out of your face and say it doesnt take real talent, you gotta be some honky redneck in your trailer park still bangin out to garth brooks, holding onto your classical 80's theory on the world, and racial issue's. Im not sure if your just racist therefore hating the genre of music because the majority of the artists within it are black, or if your just plain ignorant and know nothing about the music what so ever. But half the people you see in the top 8 on american and canadian idol are into are RNB singers. Millions upon millions vote for these people, and you claim it takes no real talent? Then tell me why these people have more money then you'll ever even see in your life in thier bank accounts, because real recognizes real, and people know talent when they see / hear it, so as far as sexykitty goes, you need to leave your trailor park and extend your ears and eyes to the world. | |

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 9/17/2008 5:53:26 PM | In my opinion genres along the lines of Rap and Hip Hop should be dead. All I hear on the damm radio is more crap in that style, and as I live in the South West Kerrang! radio is not an option. music these days is saturated with all kinds of it and surely thats a sign that it's done the musical equivalent of "Jumping the Shark." Then again if people want to listen to it then who am I to complain? Thats their choice and nuff said. Just don't expect me to smile if i'm in the car next to you and your blazing it out and forcing it itno my ears. I have some delightful Black Metal to reply too.
However since I realize my opinion is not going to change the way the world works I am able to amuse myself as I didn't need an excuse to put on something like Foo Fighters or Metallica in the first place while I am in the car or on the computer or blaze away and simulate a killer guitar solo on Guitar Hero and pretend that Rap and Hip Hop is just a bad dream. Seeing as i do those often I can easily escape reality.

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 9/19/2008 1:38:40 PM | | Genres never die-they just mutate into other forms. Hip hop is now sung in Spanish and marketed as Reggaeton. Hip hop is producer and sample driven....translation the production is very easy/inexpensive and you get great return on the dollar investment wise. Just as early R & B turned into Funk then Disco then House music then techno and Jungle etc Hip Hop will spin off into something else. I'm not of fan but in Miami you can't avoid it. | |

Most of the crappy artists that plague the radio could die off particularly Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy! Anyways a little digging around and there are many great lyricists that are independent. They provide more thought provoking rhymes.

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 3/15/2009 5:32:09 PM | oh my god! i wish it would go away too, but i just don't think it will. EVER! it's depressing... i think it has changed a lot since the 80's though and maybe that means, at some point, it will change into something that requires actual talent. i can hope, can't i?? | |

If you listen to the junk played on radio, then sure, you might have the impression that hip hop is some talentless, dying art. That's not true at all, though. Radio stations need to play what people want to listen to.. and sadly, people apparently WANT to hear garbage. There's a good chance most of the people who listen to the radio wouldn't have a clue what real music is if you put it right in front of them.
It's such a drag to see people rag on hip hop and deem potentially good artists and the genre "talentless" just because they haven't a clue. Just because you hear garbage on the radio doesn't mean that is the only thing that artist, or the genre has to offer.
Most people tend to write off an artist as "bad" if they happen to hear some radio junk without listening to the rest of an album. Even quality artists from time to time (read: not T-Pain) will include a few "radio" songs on a CD -- sadly, that's what makes sales with the majority of people.
If hip hop were dead; which it's not, the people are to blame - not the artists.

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 3/16/2009 3:28:41 PM | I Bet if Elvis were still alive he'd jump on the hiphop/rap bandwagon. I can see it now: Well my name is Elvis and I shake my pelvis yeah baby, I'm the king with my blue suede shoes you know I can't lose don't need to wear no bling..... LOL Actually I can't stand most rap/hiphop. that style of music does absolutely nothing for me. I'm more into the black, symphonic, death, folk metal type stuff | |

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 3/16/2009 3:36:42 PM | | Hip hop lost its flavour when sampling was finally prohibited and enforced, thus we started getting really cheap crap, with click tracks and lame mc's. As in all genres, to this day there is some incredible stuff in the underground, mixed with drum and bass, and of course everybody raps a little in metal, even death.....it will never die, like an old hooker, it will always be around even if it sucks..... | |

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 3/17/2009 1:07:32 AM | Hip hop cultural consist of four main elements; M.C.ing (Master of Ceremony) and/or Rapping, D.J.ing(disc jockey), Graffiti Art, and breakdancing. Other elements include beatboxing, hip hop fashion, and slang.
Will Hip Hop culture stop? In a way, it will just keep on mutating and ever evolving like it has from the start until its something differant. Remember Run DMC proclaimed themselves the Kings of Rock, not of HIP HOP.
To think that we are always going to be the same is absurd. It will be the same as any once popular music... Blue, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Punk, etc.. all things change.

| IS it me or should HIP HOP be DEAD YET? Posted: 3/17/2009 8:32:21 AM | Some of the song writing is really good and some of it is borderline genius then some of it is absolute crap intended to make money. Will I Am and his crew write great stuff...BEP rule! Stacey Fergason is a genius. K-Os....Kanye....moments of greatness. Marshall Mathers is a master of the rhyme...great timing and flow. Hip Hop has some extremely talented performers. A lot of this new top-40 pop crap ...we won't even want to listen to in 20 yrs...we'll laugh at it. Think back to 1989 and the stuff that is still listenable and the stuff that did not pass the test of time. Are we gonna wanna listen to Flo-Ridah sing Apple Bottom Jeans and Boots with da Fur.....in 20 yrs? | |
