| I miss Newfoundland women!!!!!!!!
Posted: 9/23/2005 11:51:43 AM | Well I'm a Newfoundlander and I can assure you, I am not 'tunneled visioned'. Coming from a Newfie yourself I'm surprised at your attitude towards your home. Oh and by the way, I'm a townie, so can you tell me what the difference is between myself and a baywop?

Posted: 9/23/2005 7:08:59 PM | Spunk, you're young, so it may come as some surprise to you that not everyone loves Newfoundland... just because they were born there. Myself, i have absolutely no use for Newfoundland whatsoever. Obviously, many more feel the same way. 45% of people born in Newfoundland... live west of the North Sydney ferry terminal.
I do not consider Newfoundland to be my home or where i am from.
Nova Scotia is my home, where i am from, and where i will retire. | |

Posted: 9/28/2005 7:08:34 PM | I dunno, i have heard it a million times or more and yet i cannot understand how Newfoundlanders can keep professing the self-righteous attitude that they are the friendliest people around. Furthermore, i don't understand whats so great about Newfoundland. As a person who has traveled a great deal internationally, i'd have to say Newfoundlanders are amongst the least friendliest people i have known.
I don't understand how someone can say Newfoundland is so much better than Ontario, then to base that statement on the premise that 'Newfoundlanders are friendlier' as being the only reason. What about the massive unemployment and welfare rates ? What about the huge number of jobs that pay only minimum wage ? What about the significant increase in the price of groceries, gas, utilities, cars ?? What about the social hardships... what about the harsh winters and unpredictable summers ? | |

Posted: 10/9/2005 3:18:27 PM | I hear ya! I'm originally from Ontario and moved to the rock when I was 16..I've moved back and forth over the years but I'm 29 now and just moved back here in April from Nova Scotia!Aint no place like the rock!
My grandfather was from here and my mom is here my dad was from the caribbean.So I have some roots here.I now feel the extreme need to get to Ireland where my grandmother is from.
But i tell ya when I lived in Ottawa for awhile and suddenly saw NTV come on at the Nickel Diner ..I never felt more warm and fuzzy or homesick in my life!!High tailed it on home after that!!! | |

I'm betting that nobody can 'put thier finger on one thing' that would be a legitimate and logical reason WHY Newfoundland and Labrador, or people from Newfoundland and Labrador, is or are better than anywhere else in the world.

You say you're originally from Grand Falls. What happened man? You get exiled? Sounds like your wine turned to vinegar.
There's a little thing called Newfie hospitality that we're renowned for. Where else would you find locals take total strangers in, offer them food, shelter, a place to wash up and then provide entertainment! All without asking for anything in return.
Been in Toronto for 6 years now & I haven't come across anything that remotely compares to Newfie hospitaility.
PS... This is my first post ever, the topic caught my eye & I had to give a read.. Little did I know I would get mad with a total stranger. Spongie.. I totally disagree with you man. | |
