Posted: 8/10/2005 3:54:57 PM | I have noticed alot of people who are on Lava(myself included) are on POF so what does that mean?
Well I seldom check Lavalife anymore either. I do have a few aquaintances on there that pop on and send me messages once in a while and I tell them about POF, low and behold I then see them here and they think its great.
I'm not so sure about the quality yet as I am pretty knew to POF, but for those I have met on POF so far they are all very nice.
I'm sticking around for now, till I find him.....LOL | |

Posted: 8/10/2005 5:07:33 PM | For someone like me, it seems Lavalife has proven more sucessful. It's the only personals site that I've been able to set up the perfect search filters to get people I have a lot in common with. Granted, that tends to be about 6 people when I narrow it down to what I'm really looking for, but those matches tend to be the ones I'm most interested in. Unfortunately, they're very very rarely interested in showing interest in me! Can't blame the site for them not getting past my profile though.
On any other site I find I have to do all the work. There's always something significant I can't filter out, so I have to click on each profile that comes up just to check one or two things, then move on to the next on in a long list of likely incompatible people.
To give you an idea, my main lavalife filters are:
Filter out Christians or other very organized religions - big chunck of people disappear there. Sure you find people who label themselves Christian but when you talk to them they aren't fundies or they don't even go to church, but still, why call yourself something you don't believe in?
Don't want Kids - cuts out most people, or Undecided and No Kids - gives me a few pages of hits
Must have Canoing listed as an interest. If I want more hits I set it up as Hiking listed as an interest instead. Physical activites may be a fleeting thing to filter people on, but I want someone I can do such things with, even if they, or I, can't at some future time.
Doesn't smoke - though rethinking that one, if they're 10 years younger than I am it shouldn't be a problem in the long run, we'll probably just die around the same time.
Not a heavy drinker.
Doesn't have kids - if you heard my suggestions for child rearing you'd agree that this is probably a good thing. I'm a big fan of vodka and duct tape to keep them quiet, and Darwin theory to keep them smart, so if they run out onto the road after I told them not to it's their own problem.  (Yes I'm kidding about that stuff, dark sense of humour sometimes).
I suppose it seems like I'm looking for some twisted form of perfection, but in reality a lot of these things boil down to having very fundamental differences in the way we think and what we enjoy doing. Trying to describe my logical reasoning for not having kids to a breeder, for example, is usually met with an emotional argument as to why I should. Actually, if someone fits all of the above, they don't tend to be a mirror image of me, but are someone who is strong and confident who I can enjoy a good disagreement and debate with.
I'm sure for most people who are more main stream this site is perfect. Sometimes if I have an hour to kill I'll look through the profiles, but most of the time I enjoy the forums. POF has everyone beat on that point. I know of no other singles site where you have a local message forum to get to know people through! | |

how can you limit yourself to what you are looking for..........i have found that not all people are what they say they are in the profile...............and you never know if you will have the 'works' so to speak by limiting yourself.............

Posted: 8/10/2005 5:47:39 PM | I am a HUGE POF fan...I love this site!!!...I was on Yahoo Personals, then I joined CK, then a friend on there ...who is on here...told me about this site...haven't regretted being on this site ..even once!! The others, well guess I should say, I still am on them, but they wither in comparison to this site...the ppl are awesome, and I have had the pleasure of meeting soooo many great new ppl, between the get togethers and the different functions that put together on here.

I have "chatted" for yrs and yrs LOL on other sites, and met MANY people there....but this too is a great site and I enjoy coming here. The only thing that i would like to see added would be a chat room where you can just go and chat and talk live, in a group,of course then it would be come a chat site and not a dating site LOL.

Posted: 8/11/2005 7:07:47 AM | I tend to agree with Nicole.. I find this site great in the fact it can be more of a social venue than a dating site if you so choose. There are some wonderful people on here. We can converse and joke around even though there is no hope for a romantic connection. I have made some great friends. I am finding that people are getting a lot more approachable on here also. I think they feel there is a built in safety factor where they can let down some defences and actually talk to others without fear of being harrassed or stalked.

It's way better the forums are awesome the actual get togethers are terrific!! The ability to instantly communicate with a potential new friend is excellent. It looks like you've got all the right stuff and trust me, I for one am letting all my single friends know that this site is here and that it's the best I've been on and umm trust me in 7 yrs I've been on a few. Hey even My dog got a date on POF ... lol looking to have puppies soon ..lmao.
Well I actually found someone myself it's funny how it works attended a local get together and we met then chatted in the forums and got to know one another then met again privately and have been in heaven ever since.. ;)
Thanks so much for providnig us with a venue that is not only excellent but FREE wow .. I couldn't believe it when I first signed on was waiting for the where's your credit card to pop up ..lol.
So many of us here in Ontario owe you a great deal for providing us the opportunity to socialize without stigma .. I LOVE THE SITE .. NO comparision really IT"S THE BEST!!

www.casualkiss.com is another really good site and it's only around $4.00 a month so it's really in expensive and quite good I must say...

Well I've found that in this venue you have to be active and not passive. Take the opportunity and use the forum. They are a great place to get to know people and look up local events.

Posted: 8/11/2005 2:17:09 PM | I'm on Lava too, and overall have had more success on there. I also kind of enjoy how there are 3 distinct sections on there, so you don't get hassled by people looking to get laid unless you're in the IE section.
I love POF, and think it's great.. the forums are usually entertaining. But really, this site seems to be swamped with the middle age crowd (mid 30s+). All the get togethers, "cliques", and regular posters generally seem to be in this age range.. so for us 20 somethings, it doesn't leave a lot of room to get involved or make new friends. | |

I too am on Lavalife and so far I have had a lot better opportunities with what I am looking for on Lavalife, There is a lot of Game players on there as well. I find this site to be mostly people who want to chat etc, I dont mind the chatting as well but I also dont want to be a lonely old man who plants his ass down on the computer all day and night either!! I find it very hard nowadays to find someone local to me who is slender with no children!! Is there such a thing or am I the only Loser searching for something thats not there!! Haha!!
