| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/11/2005 11:33:37 AM | | I'm in MA and paying 2.35 per gallon for the cheapest stuff. I see a lot of places much higher around here. It's mostly a matter of searching around until you find the cheapest place. Of course we could lower the price of gas by getting rid of the gas taxes. | |

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/11/2005 3:58:26 PM | Here is N/W Ohio gas has been jumping on average at least 10 cents a week for the better share of the last 2 months. Last weekend regular was 2.36 at most stations around here. On the way to work this morning regular was 2.48 and on the way home I noticed regular was up to 2.55....mid grade is 2.65 and premium is 2.75.....when is it going to stop!!
I parked my expedition months ago in favor of something ALOT better on gas....my little zx3 focus can't beat the 33MPG -vs- 14-15MPG I was getting on the battletank suv

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/11/2005 4:10:59 PM | Well I do have to admite we are so spolied here. We had cheap gas for dacades. Buying big cars 8 cylinder. Come-on people, do you really need a huge Suv and an eight cylider Lincon.
Yes, I was one of the fools years ago that drove an eight cylinder car for no reason. Never again. 4 cyliders are just fine with me. I do hope that gas would hit $3.00. That would make people think twice what car to buy next. 30 miles to a gallon do me just fine.

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/11/2005 4:43:43 PM | | We have the answers to solve the gas crisis and make us independent of foreign oil. Those answers are biodiesel and ethanol. Brazil has shown us all that ethanol is a very good alternative to gasoline, and an extensive governmental study proved the effectiveness of biodiesel. We have the resources to make both fuels work. All we need is elected officials who will take that step forward... | |

What are you guys complaining about? You should come to the U.K. We are paying in the region of $8 per It only takes a half a tank of gas to drive across your whole island nation. Here in the US we go 75 miles each way for a burger. That's like 1,230 kilometers.

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/11/2005 7:18:27 PM |
really it is an easily avoidable problem
Not possible in any state I've ever lived in. Where do you live that your workplace is reachable by bicycle without dying before you get there, and that you won't be covered in sweat and have to wash up your entire body in the ladies' room, and wash your hair in the sink, before changing into a dress, so you don't lose your job from the stink of biking 30 miles?
I can see being able to do this in Europe, but here? I could also do this when I was in college. I biked to classes from my nearby apt. (less than 1 mile away). But in a normal life? 9-5? Executives? Paralegals? Professionals? Bike around 20? 30 miles? In suits, dresses, heels? Uh... not in 99% of the U.S.

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/11/2005 8:18:31 PM | I am wondering, where is the huge nationwide outcry? Are people just going to grumble and take it? Bush's popularity numbers are now down to an all time 38 percent low. Where are the demonstrations, the angry voices?
Do the Democrats care or are they just happy driving their Hybrids?
This affects us all and really hurts the working poor. Will these rising prices make the cover of Time or Newsweek? Is there any coverage on cable? (I don't have cable so I don't know)

I think many people driving big SUV's ARE feeling the gas prices. Only thing you can do if you actually NEED to have that big of a vehicle is keep taking it. I have a couple vehicles I could drive instead of the Expedition. Right now with the 90+ temps we've been having I'm going to have to pass on riding the motorcycle or driving my jeep with no A/C....not a good option either. That leaves me with my Focus....god on gas has a/c and is actually alot of fun to drive. Only reason I still have my expedition is that you can't pull a 16" trailer with 4 motorcyles on it very well with a Focus
If you think it's bad now wait till all the high gas prices actually start to trickle down to lower level comsumer items.....food - clothes - whatever. I deal with shipping and receiving everyday and right now there are gas surcharges added to every shipment we receive in wether it came from UPS - FedEx - DHL - or the larger carriers Yellow Freight - CCX - USF - R&L. The surcharges seem to get larger every month with the ever increasing gas prices.
When all those increases reach the finished goods at your local store who do you think is gonna have to pay again.....that right WE ARE!

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/15/2005 3:01:44 PM | Gas prices around the world
Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries.
Venezuela's Oil Almost Free!
However, there are a few countries where gas prices are VERY low comparatively. In fact, Venezuela is selling petrol at below rock bottom prices ...almost free! Perhaps this is the reason why the CIA is going after the Venezuelan oil connection and why President Hugo Chavez announced discovery of evidence that the United States had drawn up blueprints to invade Venezuela, a plan he said was code-named "Operation Balboa."
Average global gas prices
UK --------------- $5.64 HONG KONG --------------- $5.62 UK --------------- $5.56 GERMANY --------------- $5.29 DENMARK --------------- $5.08 NORWAY --------------- $5.07 ITALY --------------- $4.86 TURKEY --------------- $4.85 PORTUGAL --------------- $4.80 KOREA (SEOUL) --------------- $4.71 SWITZERLAND --------------- $4.56 KOREA (KOJE/OKPO) --------------- $4.53 AUSTRIA --------------- $4.50 CROATIA --------------- $4.32 JAPAN --------------- $3.84 AUSTRALIA --------------- $2.63 CAMBODIA --------------- $2.57 TAIWAN --------------- $2.47 GEORGIA (TBILISI) --------------- $2.31 LAOS --------------- $1.66 THAILAND --------------- $1.60 CHINA --------------- $1.54 RUSSIA --------------- $1.45 KAZAKHSTAN --------------- $1.35 TAJIKISTAN --------------- $1.32 AZERBAIJAN --------------- $1.15 VENEZUELA --------------- $0.14
Chavez has always been outspoken in condemning what he calls "U.S. imperialism," mocking President Bush as "Mr. Danger" and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld as "Mr. War." But Venezuelan officials insist that his recent threats to sever ties with Washington -- thereby suspending the export of 1.5 million barrels of oil per day -- are more than the rhetoric of a populist rallying domestic support. "When [Chavez] the president talks, it is not a joke," said Mary Pili Hernandez, a senior Foreign Ministry official. "The only country Venezuela has bad relations with is the United States; with all other countries we have good or very good relations. But with just one word, the U.S. could resolve all of the problems. That word is 'respect.' "
Chavez asserts that the 21st-century equivalent of the Cold War is the developed world's thirst for oil -- and its attempts to manipulate weaker governments to secure it. Oil-rich Venezuela sells 60 to 65 percent of its crude oil to the United States, making it the fourth-largest oil supplier to the U.S. market. This year, near-record-high oil prices have helped Chavez finance a variety of social programs that he vows will make the country more independent of U.S. influence.

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/15/2005 3:03:42 PM | In the SF bay area suburbs it's about $2.79 per gallon right now. In SF itself, it's as high as $3.79... | |

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/15/2005 3:44:53 PM | At the rate of once or some times twice a week gas price increases here I'm guessing that I'll be paying over $3.00 by labor day weekend. Gas went up again today....from $2.55 to $2.69 for regular unleaded. It doesn't help that 90% of all the gas stations around here are owned by one corp and they price gouge the hell out of everyone because what you gonna do....push your car to work?
The SUV will probably become a permanent lawn ornament before to much longer with the way gas prices are now.

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/15/2005 5:30:57 PM | what u going to do to use less gas,

| GAS PRICES!!! Posted: 8/15/2005 6:44:15 PM | Hey if you want to buy a hybrid or smart car by all means go for it. I can buy one hell of a lot of gas for the 20K+ you're gonna spend on that hybrid....my SUV is PAID FOR!
Why do people buy big trucks and SUV's it's simple....because they want or need them for one reason or another. Say your local contractor is coming over to work on the roof of your house how the hell is he gonna fit all his tools into a tiny hybrid or smart car? He's not...all his tools are either in one large service truck or loaded into a trailer he pulls with an SUV or truck of some sort. Not all people buy trucks and SUV's just to go to the quickie-mart for a slurpie If you have a family of any size (wife - couple of kids - yourself) and want to go on vacation would you really use a tiny hybrid car for that task?
If you are single and need some basic transportation (IE. different car) then maybe a hybrid but I can't see spending the $$ right now just to save a little on gas
