try $1.17 per litre here in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I have to use my car every day for work. Being self employed means I make less for every job I do.

God forbid the north americans should have to pay more at the pumps than they're used to.What makes us north americans believe we're any different than any other country when it comes to cheap gas?Try living in europe.I think everyone should just get used to it.This is the new reality.

Okay.... see here:

Haven't we figured out yet that the gas companies and Detroit are in cahoots? ....that it keeps auto sales UP to make them "obsolete" by making gas cheap and then expensive again because it causes us to have to buy either faster cars or cars that get better mileage?

$65.00 per 55 gallon barrel... $1.47 per gallon of gas retailing at $2.60 is cost...

http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/margins/

Afew years ago, there actually was getting to be a fairly large market for battery operated autos and they were made pretty good.... powerful... and there were even a growing number of gas stations with battery chargers... but after a short while, the gasoline companies put pressure on service stations NOT to carry battery chargers.. so alot of battery operated autos are growing cobwebs for that reason...

It's all about the corporations...

Hey! All you 'Yanks' Don't even begin to **** about the price your paying!
It's approaching £1.00 per litre here in the UK, that's almost $8.50 a gallon! AND you don't have the plague of fekkin speed cameras that we've also got...get 'flashed' going pass one and you'll get a minimum £30 fine PLUS 3 points on your licence. Get 12 points within a 3 year period, and you'll be banned from driving ANYTHING for 1 year, then try and get some sensible quotes for the next three years motor insurance...NOT!
1 UK Gallon = 4.55 litres. £1.00 = $1.85 (ish)
Any lovely US/Canadian ladies wanna marry a sensible guy from the UK, and get me out of this s**thole!

600 miles for about 16 dollars.

Filling the 22-L tank cost only about $16, and you can travel a full 600 km on one fill-up. Mileage: 3.9 L/100 km in city, 3.1 L/100 km on highway.

60 miles to the gallon anyone ?

You want to know the thing that will piss all of you off? We import oil from the Middle East for 2 reasons...to help them maintain their economy through trade, and because we want to use up everone else's natural resources first. Between Texas, Alaska, and Cali we have over 1 billion gallons of oil.

And who do you think is buying the largest per capita numbers of these. Quebecers. Got to love living there. At least I used to until recently. A place with a real social and global conscience.

I am glad people blame the fuel processing companies for the gas prices.

Anyone who payed attention in high school economics understands a supply curve and a demand curve.

Well the oil supply curve is fixed for the most part countries are at the brink of their oil exporting capability and the demand curve keeps sliding over because of increased use of automobiles worldwide (china and India). When you have a commodity that is absolutely necessary (like fuel) people for the most part can't decrease consumption just because the price goes up.

The result is rapidly climibng gas prices.

Are the oil companies getting rich? Hell yes they are.

Are they responsible for causing high oil prices? Nope.

And I don't know how many people watched NBC news tonight but they had a segment on how economical hybrids really were and over 5 years only one of them (Prius) was more economical than its gas exclusive counterparts and that was only by $78. So if you want a hybrid do it for the enviroment but as they are now, the extra cost you pay for a hybrid isn't going to be regained at the pumps.

I appreciate the hybrid views, but why would I sell a car that I paid cash for and is 2 yrs old (v8 Explorer) for an economical car that I will have to pay $25k for. I can buy a lot of gas at $55 a tank for 25 thou.

mein lieben american freinds. what do you expect from your beloved president who is involved in oil bussines as well as his dad and x-president.
if you remember presidency of older bush was filled with oil crisis and war expancies to oil producing regions.
next president was also a$$hole but not owner of oil bussines. as you can see at time of his presidency oil prices was stable enough exept few speculative twists from wall street.
now bush jr only tramping with his wall street's budies path of his daddy :)

Now isnt that the pot calling the kettle black!

OT: again...the us govt could do alot by relaxing the EPA restrictions on the types of gas needed in various locales. Refineries required to make up to 40 types of gasoline is insane!

I totally agree with you!
It wouldn't hurt also to make a few more refineries, drill for oil here at home and make it more profitable and attractive to businesses to create more alternatives to fossil fuels. Get the car companies out of the monopoly they have, along with the big oil/gas companies and turn it more towards the private sectors and you will see a huge difference.

Just like the race for space, or even beer production, let the private sector in on it. Open up the field for everyone and see what happens!

Gas prices in newfoundland are crazy. Somewhere around $1.30 a litre. Just plain nuts. It sucks having to live on an island. Luckily, I have two good legs, a spirit that is willing, and a strong heart to take me wherever I may want to go. Well, that and a bus pass on those stormy winter days when even standing up is a problem.

The capital should have the highest pricing, just so the politicians won't be living in their crystal palaces...then they'd face what most of the average Canucks face for pricing on a daily basis. They'd be soon making policies to reduce prices, in ALL areas. Can't believe it when some guy in Ottawa compares the deep discount prices HE gets in Ottawa to the average person in, say, Quebec City.....the politician might be able to buy a whole BBQ chicken for 6 bucks in Ottawa (they can), but I know that here you'll pay closer to 15. Totally oblivious to pricing structures outside their own little fishbowl.

nothing makes me laugh more then riding my bike home from work and hearing some dumba$s in there Cadillac SUV (as if such a vehicle even needs to exist) grumble about how I shouldn’t be on the road. “There are too many damn bikes on the road.”

Yeah, that’s our problem.

IF EVERYONE IN ONTARIO were to just not buy gas for ONE DAY then the gov't would be forced to cut back on the amount of tax that we pay for the gas!! They would have NO CHOICE BUT how do you get all these people to just not buy gas for 1 DAY?
