Posted: 12/16/2007 5:57:48 PM | beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i'm a voluptuous, thicker type of woman...not the waif thin girl filled with silicone that vogue tells us men supposedly desire. i'm not a barbie, and i'm not perfect. i'd consider myself average on the attractiveness scale (but that's relative now isn't it?) and i work the assets i have to my best advantage. some guys like a girl with extra pounds, some men are disparaging about it...but it doesn't limit me or who i'll chase if i'm interested.
i've been with men who are on the lesser side of average, and i've been with men who could be (and have been) models. they thought i was beautiful regardless of my flaws and insecurities, and that's all that really matters now isn't it?
OP, whatever your perceived flaws are...i imagine you judge yourself more harshly than most others would. | |

But i dont think its fair to generalise "hot skinny girls" as being high maintenance and dumb.
I find that if i go clubbing or out for the night, a lot of the girls ACT dumb because they think it attracts males. Where did they get this idea from? | |

One guy had the nerve to tell me that he's the best I'll ever find and that I should feel honored that he's interested in me.
oh it must have been the same guy I met a few years ago - except he said that as he got older he found he had to "lower his standards" in the types of women he could meet. We were at an old friends of mine restaurant at the time and my friend and her husband were there and they heard him say that and the husband about spit his drink out and they both looked at each other and said oh sh*** here we go - they KNEW I wouldn't let that one slide. I politely laid the money on the table to pay for my iced tea and told him I would feel horrible knowing I caused him to lower his standards and went to sit with my friends | |

I really didn't believe it until I landed my own  Not to mention we have a client at my place of work who is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, totally ripped, totally hot dude, and I expected his wife to come in being some stereotypical blonde bombshell... she was a very plain brunette, who really didn't have an attractive face, and she admitted she preferred one dog over the other, the dog she liked less her husband liked the most. I was floored because he was amazing, and she was just... eh and her personality was nothing like his. But apparently they get one great and balance each other out, so I can't complain, at least they seem happy.
I kind of agree with some of the other posters, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We all have things we are attracted to when looking for our partners. I don't think I'm amazing, I like to go with 'cute' [hahaha cute but psycho... things even out  ] but I'm a chunky chick and I haven't had issues dating attractive guys. There was a time when I really thought I'd have to "settle" for the first thing that came along, make the stupid mistake most girls do which is flock to whoever gives them the most attention. I've realized now that isn't how it has to be, and if I want something I need to go for it. | |

I don't have a "Studmuffin" membership card but I can probably be found in the bakery on the day old rack. 
Just a quick story from my old Air Force days: I was about 22 or so and my circle of friends were also. One of the women assigned to our squadron was in her early thirties and truly was not just unattractive but pretty ugly. What she did have was a personality and attitude towards life that was amazing. It was universally agreed among all of us that she was one of the hottest women we had ever known. She could have gotten any one of us just by raising an eyebrow. She truly was amazing.
In my view the inner person can overcome looks but looks cannot overcome the inner person. | |

Uhhhh...yeah, right.
Women, beautiful or not so beautiful, can be subject to abuse. Now, perhaps what you call "ugly chicks" may be more willing to put up with that abuse, although I doubt it - I think it's their personality rather than their looks that determines whether they will put up with it.
The problem with your argument is that you are suggesting that the characteristics of beauty and brains are mutually inclusive. I agree that a smart woman won't put up with that sh*t, but her looks really have nothing to do with it. A beautiful dumb woman will put up with his sh*t just as readily as an "ugly chick"

Posted: 1/12/2008 5:38:47 AM | It's always about the whole person and how one responds to them. Look around...You see all sorts of people in society with all different kinds by their sides. Fat, skinny, ugly, knock-out beauty, tall, short, etc.
It's all about YOU too, and what you want and how you portray yourself. Define what it is you want and why, then go for it! Most of us fall in the middle somewhere. I don't believe it is all about looks, but more about over-all attraction.
It is also about our own hangups. I really don't want to date men shorter than me. I come from a family of very tall people. It's a comfort thing with me. Not saying I would totally exclude someone shorter, but it does make a difference to ME. Others have such issues also. Actually we all have something we want or don't in a mate.
I also prefer someone with a great mind. Someone intelligent (and that doesn't mean you have to have a degree...Some degreed people are downright ignorant!). I need to be challenged on that level. I also have preferences in other areas. Doesn't mean I will have them all in one person, but I think the closer you get to what is important to you and your partner, the better chance of the relationship succeeding long term, which is what I am looking for.
Dating and relationships aren't simple, and they need a lot of work. If you think otherwise you will be greatly disappointed. Many don't know what they want. One needs to KNOW that. The other thing people are even worse on, is not knowing what they do NOT want. If you can't stand smoking, you won't make it with a smoker, no matter how great they are!! If you need to change someone, or have someone change for you at all.... it's the wrong person! Problem is, people ignore that many times and think they can live with issues they don't want to, for things they find are huge pluses. You see it all the time.. and it is extremely rare for it to work out for both to be truly happy.
All my own opinion, of course.

I suffer from facial scarring but i am what i am , when i am over weight that bothers me more not because i think i am ugly but because i can't fit into my fave black dress.. Embrace yourself woman and know that whatever anyone says you are unique and beautiful......... just because you're you..
