I think 38 is not old, and I would date a woman younger than me. I don't think is wrong
I just don't want to end like Catherine Zeta-Jones husband(25 years apart)

What really defines age? One's choronical age may differ to how old a person feels like and how you relate with people in a particular chronological age. Suppose you are older but identify with the yonger crowd?

Age is just a number. Just because someone is in their 40's does not automatically make them mature, and the same goes for a person in there 20's being immature. Age doesn't signify what a person has experienced in their lifetime no matter how many years that encompasses. If the people in the relationship click, what's the problem? I've personally dated men both younger and older than myself, but I've found that I'm usually more attracted to men that are in their 30's or older... although I do tend to shy away from anyone over 50.

older men and younger women

well if its more than a 5 year difference it is socially frowned upon and a taboo in our modern times

Any man with a woman 10 + years younger than himself is labled a "dirty old **stard"

I always prefered women younger than me because they seemed less prudish and "settled" than women my own age. My new wife is younger than me and we're very happy. If an older man wants a younger woman or vice versa, good luck to them, and its really nobody's business but their own.

They say," Age is just a number". I say if you are 38 and can still hang with a 20 something year old, then go fo it. Women do it all the time, date guys alot younger but ask them what happens. As soon as he gets bored he gets gone and the same goes for the young ladys too. They are young and full of life and energy, It's exciting to be around them.Until one of their friends calls you, "Sir".

I don't think anyone is really concerned as long as both people are of a legal age. The people that might make comments....well, it's not their relationship, so who cares what they think. The only ones that annoy be are those that have to have a set younger age. For example, one who is in his 50's demanding that he has a 20 year old girl, because he thinks women his age are ugly and all used up. That is some sad reasoning there. If a person fits, great. Some though will go a large chunk of their lifetimes alone because they can't figure out why they can't get that cute 20-something to go out with them. You can pursue that, but no one is "owed" the type of person they want to be with. I guess technically the reasoning doesn't even matter, a person can pursue whatever type of person they want. Some of the attitudes people present with age are annoying, but those are the types that insult anyone that doesn't fit their "type."

It really depends on the 2 people involved. It could work out. Me personally, I wouldn't go for most women around my age because most of them have been married and divorced and have kids to show for it. I'd rather have my own kids, thank you very much. And when I get married, I want a woman under 30 so we could at least have a few years to ourselves before having kids, and she would still be of child-bearing age.

My experience, however, have been that many Western women who are in their early to mid 20s are age-phobic when it comes to men in their mid 30s and above, but women from Eastern European, Asian, and Latin American countries don't seem to mind so much.

A friend of mine recently shared with me the "Double Down" dating rule. Which means if you're willing to date someone 5 years older than yourself...you can double down to 10 years younger. So find you age ceiling...then simply double down. That's assuming your not doubling down into the teen years!

I think it is natural for people with similar emotional ages to be attracted to one another. It is very common that men marry women 3 to 8 years younger than them and date women beyond that range. I was in a 5 relationship where the gap was 10 years, the relationship was generally peaceful and broke up because she was looking to have a baby when I was not ready to...age is nothing but a number as the old saying says. Emotional Maturity matching is the key.

you go shopping, theres a favourite place you go,maybe sainsburys maybe tesco's,same thing with women,if theres a market for a younger woman and it rocks your boat ,go there.i personally think some women like an older bloke,as do visa versa.its all down to personal choice,i wouldnt buy a rolls royce and expect a mini's engine in it,but then again i wouldnt wanna go clubbing with a 25 year old.good luck to you.

^^^^ No, it way predates those two jokers. And it's usually 7 years, not 8. But that's for guys; gals get a different formula (the inverse, technically speaking).
And there's no penalty for breaking this "rule" once a guy makes it to 28.

There was a study which found a disproportionate number of extraordinary men had fathers who were older than 35 at the time they were born. So women in their 20's who want to have kids should consider this if that might be important to them.

I think mid-20s is far too young for me. It is no so much the age difference as the completely different mindset. I have had serious correspondence with several people on their twenties, but they tended to be far more grounded than my own contemporaries.

x = Age of Older person
y = Minimum Age

x/2 + 7 = y

that is the formula in the area of Age disparity. it is a mathematic rule so to speak suggested by psychologists as a "rule of thumb."

It is known as the "half-your-age-plus-seven" rule.
However this rule is based upon socially acceptable norms.

here is a breakdown of slang terms to define pairings in which one individual is much older than the other:

- Cougar refers to an older woman, usually in her early 30's or 40's who sexually pursues younger men. Term used by motion picture movie Oceans 13 and the NBC reality tv show Age of Love.

- Chickenhawk describes an older gay man who sexually pursues younger males, i.e. "twinks"/"chickens" or underage boys. The term was used as the name of a television documentary on the subject of NAMBLA.

- Jailbait refers to a particularly sexually attractive person, female or male, below the legal age of consent. This designation connotes enticement to endanger oneself of being prosecuted for statutory rape.

- Lolita refers to a sexually precocious young girl who is the object of desire of a significantly older man. Used in English the term refers to the title character of Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita, who is referred to by the book's narrator, Humbert Humbert, as a nymphet. While "nymphet" is still used to refer to children, "Lolita" has come to be applied to older adolescents and young women in the context of pornography.

- MILF - (Mom I'd Like to Fcuk) refers to mothers who attract the sexual attention of younger men. This acronym was popularized by the movie American Pie and is frequently referred to in pornography.

- Sugar Daddy (originally literally referring to a sugar plantation owner in the southern U.S.) refers to a rich, usually older man who offers money or gifts to a less rich, usually younger person in return for companionship or sexual favours. This differs from prostitution in that the older man is usually the sole financial provider to the younger person. In Japan, there is a loosely similar practice known as enjo_kosai.

You forgot 'silverback' and GILF.

A silverback is defined as follows:

1) The male equivalent of a cougar. Usually in their late thirties, successful, well-dressed, with cash to spend. May have a group of females that hang around for free drinks. As Chris Rock eloquently stated, "Not that old...just a little too old to be in the club."

2) A mature male gorilla having silvery white hair across the back.

GILF stands for: Grandma, I'd like to f*ck. Reserved for nasty grannies that are still promiscous and reserved for situations when younger men are either drunk and/or horny and didn't satisfy their needs elsewhere.

Also, although the term 'gold digger' was probably originally intended primarily for women whom marry intentionally for wealth, it has unfortunately become synonymous with the description of any younger woman marrying an older man, regardless of whether there is any validity to this claim or not.

I've never posted to the Forums, but wanted to get in on this one. First, I'm 52 but don't need Geritol. I'm very active and young at heart as they say. I just had a wonderful weekend with a lady that is 28. We met thru work and went to Biketoberfest together. I didn't ask her out for sex and I think she really appreciated that. I was a gentleman to her eventhough we slept in the same bed(fully clothed) and I could have easily "tried my luck". We just had a great time listening to music, riding my bike, good conversation and taking in everything that was going on. I can't speak for her, but hope she went with me, because she knows I'm a man of my word and she trusted me. I have tons of respect for her and if this becomes more than a great friendship then I'm open to it. If not I'm good with being her friend. She is extremely beautiful and has had a tough time with guys in her age bracket treating her like dirt, so maybe she just wanted to be treated nice for a change. I didn't have to blow a bunch of cash on her either. She actually paid or tried to pay for some of the expenses. So I say, if you get along with someone, male or female and you have a good time together,GO FOR IT... Age doesn't matter....Myself, I don't worry or care what anyone thinks about how I live. I know what's right for me and that's all that really matters.
