Airlines: Do they have right to forcibly search you?

the US is quickly becoming a fascist, military-policed state ...corporations can and will do whatever they like ...it's also part of your conditioning process ...all your "rights & freedoms" are quickly being eliminated.

Absofukkinlutley! You're right about the Fascist Corporate States of Amerika. The so called "reason" is there. Now that the populace is frightened, get them to hand their freedom over on a silver platter. It's good to see someone else here who isn't asleep.Do a google search for the document "Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars".It's all there.

Hopefully airlines will always be private businesses. Therefore there would always be a lot of them. Therefore, you would have the choice: for those that think no searches are good, they can go on "No-search Airline".
For those that think random searches are adequate, they can go on "Random Airlines".
For those that desire maximum security, they can fly "Profile Airlines".

The private business scenario also applies to restaurants. This is in reflection of the decreasing rights of restaurant patrons as to smoking. I hate smoke. But I more vehemently hate the government telling private business people what to do, when the no-smoking people merely need to open the "No-Smoke Trattoria".

No, it's not. No one, restaurant patrons or anyone else, has a "right" to smoke where ever they please.

I understand that there are questionable erosions on civil liberties going on, but it bugs me that it just now seems like "my rights are being violated" is the "thing to say." Why would anyone EVER try to claim a "right to smoke?" Maybe what you're trying to say is that the gov't shouldn't be allowed to impose those regulations on private business OWNERS, but the patron has NOTHING to do with this.

Nittany: like I said, I hate smoke. However, if
a) a restaurant owner chooses to allow smoking
b) some patrons choose to smoke
should I, through govt coercion, have the right to prevent them?
There is a right for individuals to open non-smoking restaurants. I go to Subway most of the time, and I eat the vegetable "po-boys". Never smoke. I guess Subway prohibits it. Their right. Let freedom reign.

Well, different levels of gov't do have the power to regulate behaviors related to health, and you, I'm sure, understand, that a smoker's actions can have a negative health impact on other people (whether those other people are smokers or not.)

So when you say "should I have the power through gov't coercion," if you mean you as a private citizen? No, of course not.

If you mean should the gov't have the power? I think yes, you think no. But the reality is that the gov't DOES have that power, and it's not new.

songbird - i hate underwires and never wear them! i thought it was funny though. i mean it was just a quick squeeze and a pat. no big deal.

i don't mind being searched. i can't see why people would have a problem with it.
