Hmm... I guess that excludes all those cultures where the women are both the prime caregivers and the prime "earners". I'm thinking of all those villages where these poor women are working nonstop sowing and harvesting crops, "gathering" water from 10 km away, raising children, building their homes out of mud and whatever materials they can find, and in general, keeping the household running...
And their men? They spend the day sitting by the fire, or under the Village Tree and discuss important issues and make their once or twice yearly "hunting" trip, to show how important and manly they are.
Don't use slanted anthropological ideas to support the continuing of the status quo. That is just a shabby and cheap way to argue a point.
P.S. Today Rosa Parks died. When I think of her, I am reminded how only the truly ignorant assume that what's happened for hundreds of years is something that will "always be".... and in fact, always should be. It just isn't so. And thank goodness for that. | |
