I think by a certain age, people should be past the age where they think they have to express themselves through self mutilation to "show" that they are outgoing - if you're outgoing, BE outgoing, don't pay someone carve up and grafitti your skin. But I agree its a personal preference on both ends and its best if someone that doesn't like tattoos knows that someone they are talking to has one (and vice versa), so they can both decide if there is enough potential to continue talking, as it may turn out that there may be some interpersonal issues between the two will preclude much of a relationship.

Self Multilation?...Isn't that kind of a strong word to be using?...

Last time I checked beautiful artwork is exactly that, beautiful artwork...Wether the canvas is just a plain piece of paper, to a church, to someones body...

Art is Art...

I agree with a few of the other posters. I dont care if a woman is covered in tattoos so long as their not stupid ones you see on everyone else. There is nothing more boring then someone with a bunch of shitty tattoos and in most cases would probably tell you alot about someone if they're willing to permanently alter their body with unoriginal art work. But thats just me.

"I wonder if all of the young gals that get the tattoo across their lower backs realize that when you have a tattoo in that area you are unable to have an epidural in childbirth!

If they think the tattoo hurt, its nothing like giving birth!"

thats really really funny considering I have a tattoo on my lower back and I also have a son which I did not feel come out thnks to a little thing called an epidural...

so before trying to make a statement like that do some research.

All right hold on!

This one goes out to jpneok!!!

ARE YOU F#@%*#G FOR REAL? Sorry if I can't seem to find a better way to express my self than writeing what almost feels llike hate mail. But do you really think that everyone on the street that has some ink( be it large or small) should come walking up to you and disclose to you personal info like weather or not they have MUTILATED themselves as you put it, just because you don't care for it?
You know it's people like you I wish I could run into at a club or a bar and hear u spouting off your crap!
I do have more to say but I will end it here for worrys of being rejected by people like you!

SWEET! My first virtual hate... post! Well, guys I really don't care about, since I'm not John Inman, of course, though I was disappointed when a friend of mine recently went through his mid-life crisis and is now getting tattooes and riding a motorcycle, smoking and drinking etc. I think if people have the 'right' to mutilate themselves and I have the right to not like it, its an equitable trade and it would seem to be in the best interest of both to go for disclosure of that type - same with piercings. And for the record, I don't hang out in bars or clubs, nor do I 'spout off' unless I'm involved in a conversation, as forum threads basically are open conversations, available to anyone. And fear not about me rejecting someone for your tattoos, chances are, I'd reject them for many many more and even better reasons, beforehand - reactionary ego-centric handwaving being one of them.

Lighten up man. You are sitting here calling everyone with a tattoo who stands up for themselves as "ego centric"..? Open your mind fellah. People have tattoos, and they are proud of it. What are you proud of? Being hateful and prejudice? FYI most women probably won't find that too attractive.

I have two small tattoos....and getting a third. The two are very small. One is a small red heart on my left ankle, which is for my Grandfather who died at 59 of a heart attack. The other one is a small ladybug on the top of my right foot, which means good luck and a symbol of the soul.

In general i think its vandalism... skin is usually much prettier than ink. That being said, I've seen some very cool and tasteful tatoos that don't provoke thoughts of 'trashiness' in me... these are usually very personal to the girl and not in visible places...Regardless i have no strong feelings about them and they wouldn't affect my feelings toward the girl.

Call it whatever you like but if I come at you with a hammer and nail it's just to hang you on my wall! It's nothing personal it's just what I do with art. It’s even better if you come equipped with your own eyelets to hang you up by.

I for one am adorned with some tats. Each piece is personal to me and I can tell you my exact thoughts, reasons, and the mood I was in when I recieved the ink. I can not wait till my grandchildren see my tattoos, I will be a walking talking history book, each tattoo representing a time in my life that was memorable enough to stick in my skin on a permanent basis. I have no regrets and whether someone has taken the time to draw up and put emotion into their tats or just picked flash off a wall, to me it is all about expression. It may be a fad but you have to be dedicated to it!

I have seen many tattoos on many people. There are some that are tasteful and some that are not. But I have seen some truly beautfiul tattoos that make me think about getting one. There is my friend with a frog on her back (she is french and we both collect froggies), my friend with a scottish thistle anklet (she wanted to express her scottishness), and there is the waitress who almost made me cry with the explanation of hers. Hers is high up on her back - it is two wings with the name IDA between them - she says Ida is her late grandma's name and she thinks she is looking after her - guardian angel - what a beautiful sentiment!!

My one son has a tattoo he regrets - my younger two want tattoos (are too young yet) and are surprised as all get out that I would allow it if it is tasteful. I have advised them that it is PERMANENT and you DO have to realize that your kids, grandkids, etc. will see it so it should mean something and be tasteful to yourself.

For myself, I would LOVE to get a tattoo if I weren't so chicken!! Maybe one day, I will - someone will have to hold my hand and wipe my tears at the time though - lol.

well...
i have ink, got my first tat when i was 16 almost 15 years ago, my second when i was 17, before it was the thing to do. terrible pieces they were, your standard flashart. they are now covered with 2 original pieces that are beautiful.

i have a total of 6, technically 8 if you count the ones that are covered. Again, who cares. its my body, i am by no means trash. in fact men who don't like tats normally find mine to be quite attractive and accentiates (sp?) my anatomy. i spend a pretty penny for my ink, and its by no means self-mutilation. a cutter, that is self-mutilation, causing pain to mask what is really wrong.

why should it even be an issue makes me laugh. i disclose my tats and piercings right in my profile. if its not your thing then move on, but again to make an issue out of someones personal perference is silly. funny thing is, i have more manners, etiquette and style then alot of people. you can take me anywhere and i know how to act. not only that but my personality shines thru. the ink is just a bonus.

close-mindedness is disgusting and it will make you into such an ugly person. think about it

tattoo's are wonderfull on women if youdont like ink thats your choice but i think they are beautifull you know as long as its something different[unlike the same butterfly/flower flash that a million other people have on thier lower back/bellybutton] if you decide to get inked up make sure its unique

I've had someone on another dating site refuse to even speak to me cause I have ink. Now THAT was funny. Apparently tatt's are a deal breaker for some people. Mine can't be seen unless I want to show it. It's something that's very meaningful to me and I thought about it for almost 10 yrs before I did it. So for someone to "pre-judge" me based on the fact that I've got ink is something I find absolutely amazing!! Lump everyone who's inked into one category? Seriously? Really? The way I see it is this.....if someone is so shallow and closed minded that they can't see past a little ink and get to know the person, then that's not someone who should be in your life anyway right?
