| Drugs..medications, Posted: 7/28/2007 12:46:41 PM | | I use as little pharmaceuticals as possible with the exception of asa, apirin or ibuprophin as I am prone to head aches & sinus pain. Due to a few different accidents & a bout of ptsd, I was prescribed pain killers, muscle relaxants, & anti-depressants in the past. As it were for the 1st category, I either never refill the scripts or would not even take them all because I do not like the side effects - Forgetting one's name is not a good thing! For the latter, I stopped taking them after a few months because they were making matters worse not better. I found out the cummadin my Gramdma takes is made or rat poison. No ... Prescribed medications are not of my liking. In all truth, I do not trust the standards, the tests, the chemicals used, their effectiveness, etc. Indeed, I even, mistrust their motives. I think that his industry is scary. Yiacks! | |

| Drugs..medications, Posted: 9/16/2009 10:37:00 PM | Do your research before putting anything in your body! Prescription Drugs http://breathing.com/articles/prescription-drugs.htm
"The whole concept of drug induced disease is much better known that it was 10 or 15 years ago?" Paul Seligman, Director of the FDA's Pharmacoepidemiology and Statistical Services as stated in USA Today March 14, 2005 Section B. Though some drugs save lives, unfortunately, many drugs create unwanted side-effects aka illnesses, toxicity and death."
"Millions of Americans swallow pills that are supposed to make them feel better — physically or mentally — but covertly wreak havoc with their body and brain. Many older folks are dismissed as senile, when in fact their drugs are causing their memory lapses and confusion." Dr. Julian Whitacker, MD
The number of drug company lobbyists increased from year 2001 to 2002, along with the amount spent on lobbying activities. In all, the drug industry spent close to $100 million--a record amount.
Drug companies are most interested in influencing issues related to prescription-drug benefits for Medicare recipients, generic drugs, and imported prescription drugs from Canada. I hear that prescription Drug coverage is being dropped from many corporate health plans. Partly due to expense and partly due to drug side effects.

| Drugs..medications, Posted: 9/16/2009 11:37:45 PM | The body is a system. When something is out of whack or there is a problem and you put it back in whack, you throw something else off.
Perfect example: treatment of bi-polar disorder.
Basically, there is an over-abundance of dopamine. Lithium will curb this, but when you drop dopamine levels or dopamine uptake, you start to run into extra pyramidal side effects--similar to parkinsonian symptoms. Very very narrow theraputic range for lithium and we are still not sure how it works.
Most medications are like this, a trade-off. It's jsut the nature of the beast. Your car is no different. Change out the cam in the engine and you may have more horsepower up top, but you lose some low-end torque. Your body is a VERY complex machine and the changes are more complex as are the mechanisms, but it's the same principal.

| Drugs..medications, Posted: 9/17/2009 12:05:13 AM | Do any of you guys need some dope?... My medicine cabinet is full of crap the VA keeps giving me... Stupidofrin... Dummydownolox... Whatever; I can't remember the names...
During my last visit, I was told all about my remarkable progress on the meds; and given fresh scripts for a new batch...
Damn... They seemed so happy... I didn't have the heart to burst their bubble; to actually reveal that I'd not taken one single pill...
Why do I even bother to bring this shit home?... Just to humor them, I guess...
I'm just gonna throw all this crap out... And next time, I'm not bringing it back to my place...
There's this blue trash can just outside the main entrance... Right next to this outdoor shelter they built for all the smokers...

| Drugs..medications, Posted: 9/17/2009 12:17:02 AM | Hi Byrd!
These days, I try to avoid all medications that are not absolutely necessary. The fewer drugs we're putting into our system the better, I think. I know I feel better when I'm living as naturally as possible.

| Drugs..medications, Posted: 9/17/2009 5:59:56 AM | | There is a risk benefit ratio with any drug. You will not put anything into your body that doesn't have some effect wanted or unwanted. I love it when people say they only put "natural" things into their body. Arsenic is as natural as it gets, doesn't mean it is good for you. You absolutely want to keep from taking anything unnecessary. But drugs can and do save lives daily, even the warfarin or coumadin, that truly is rat posoin. It inhibits the body's clotting ability, in the proper amounts a rat will bleed to death, at the therapeutic level in a human it will prevent life threatening blood clots from forming. | |

| Drugs..medications, Posted: 9/17/2009 6:06:10 AM | I guess the idea is to weigh the benefits and the risks. If I am "risking" liver damage, but need the drug to survive or function, then maybe I'd consider it.
I am not a huge fan of modern medicine - I can't quite get why everyone seems to think that if they are constantly at the doctor and taking all kind of meds, they will live forever. I don't get why people who have sustained injuries think that it can be "fixed" and they should feel like they did when they were kids. I think modern medicine is wonderful - sometimes - but I also think the medical community has a majority of people thinking that they can "fix" things that can't be fixed.
