| Artists are weird Posted: 12/23/2005 7:14:38 PM | the really cool thing about every artist that I have known is that not only can they create beauty (whether words/music/art or whatever), but they have an extraordinary capacity to receive and be moved by it as well.
To read a poem, see a work of art, or hear a melody and be moved to tears - whether of joy or sorrow - is part and parcel of what I consider to be the artistic soul. Not everyone has this capacity, and I really feel sorry for those who do not. It's an amazing feeling to hear a melody - and feel chills run up and down your spine, just from the emotion evoked by the tune...
Does anyone else experience things like this?

It's the price of being creative, it is born of sensitivity, empathy, .............
To connect with "the creatiive" source, we must "thin" our "skin", .....tears are a sign you may have a clue.

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/23/2005 10:34:52 PM | This is true; most artists I have known were big dramatic sacks of tears waiting to explode at the slightest indication of something true or beautiful.
What is the difference between weird and interesting?
Where is the ordinary factor?
The boring factor? | |

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/24/2005 6:11:36 PM | | Yes Musicman, I too am often brought to tears or laughter simply walking around and looking at colors, light, shadow, people and their expressions....the list goes on. I try to see the beauty in all. I am very tactile, and love to touch what i see. I prefer associating myelf with artists. they are genuinely more laid back and open-minded spirits. | |

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/24/2005 6:53:05 PM | | I've never been able to just "listen" to music in my life... It all does something to me, depending on my mood, or maybe what mood I "need" to be in... But, there are soooo many people that don't get that at all~~ | |

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/24/2005 7:48:31 PM | Artist here...weird in my own way. Don't really care either way if people think it or not. Phuck em.
Every one is messed up in their own way.
Artist or not.
Some are just more obvious then others.

| Artists are weird Posted: 4/6/2006 10:33:55 PM | | I`m artsy..I draw alot.and paint a little and other stuff.I`m told I`m pretty weird, but I don`t believe `em I think I`m okay! They are just teasing me I think. Like the post above..I don`t care what people say anyways because I have way too much fun just being me... | |

| Artists are weird Posted: 4/8/2006 2:01:26 PM | I guess my peak of "artisticness" was when I was still in high school. I was basically the all black, goatee toting, brooding artist looking guy. I hated the world and it reflected in all my drawings and writings. I was sent to the principal numerous times for my artwork, mostly because the teachers thought I had a suicidal problem, even though I didnt. I just depicted death a lot in my art because basically in my eyes the world around me was dying. I wouldnt say I was the kind of guy that got picked on alot because I played hockey and was friends with some of the "jocks", but I guess I had a chronic depression throughout most of my life and somehow it made my art better, I dont know if that makes me a glutton for punishment or what because when Im in a "good" mood my art usually sucks... Unless Im in love and am doing the art for the sake of the person I love, thats a little different. Im not too sure where Im going with this, Im kind of a chronic perfectionist and it tends to ruin half the things I do in life, because I keep trying to perfect it and perfect it till I end up ruining it, as far as art goes anyway. I dont know if this makes me weird but it certainly seems like a lot of people in my lifetime have thought of me as being weird | |

| Artists are weird Posted: 4/8/2006 6:57:59 PM | Artists have to dedicate large parts of their lives to their craft.
Practicing can be very lonely. It's not alot of fun to go spend 6 hours practicing on Staturday and Friday nights when all your peers are getting drunk and falling down acting cool.

Being a sensitive, kind and caring Artist myself, I like other Artists and I understand them. I think "Wierd" is when a stockbroker shoots himself in the head because he hates his life and his material trinkets have let him and his "wife" down - Again.

| Artists are weird Posted: 4/9/2006 9:07:17 AM | | Yes, artists are a bit weird, the most creative people in this world are usually the most messed up. Same with musicians, I could write a book on all the completely strange people that I worked with. I'm a sound engineer, and I don't hear records the way that the average person does, i'm always like, "that reverb on the snare is too long", or "I like the way that they panned the guitars" or something like that. I wish that I could go back to hearing it the way that I did as a kid--one big conglomeration of something cool, because it's still great, it's just that I pick everything apart now. | |

Artists aren't weird, they're just naturally drawn to self expression.

| Artists are weird Posted: 4/10/2006 10:04:00 AM | Being unique really rocks, that is right ,i am sort of an artist myself ,choreographer, dancer, and i feel the music,i know how it goes...these are the the wierd things about us ,we perceive the world from different perspective,we see people in a different way,my fav musician for instance is damien rice,he is actually one of those people ,who really should be thought of as a example of sb who makes sth of nothing ..isn't it great???his music...u guys stick to him ....u will love this guy

| Artists are weird Posted: 4/10/2006 4:06:36 PM | | making something out of nothing should be the mantra for anyone who makes things.....if it's already something, then you miss out on the thrill of discovering it and finding its relationship to things we already understand.....the best part is taking a risk and seeing what comes of it.....and that amazing feeling when it finally comes together as something coherent and entertaining..... | |

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/5/2008 12:55:56 PM | I met Bjork back in 1993. She was pleasant enough but did come across as a little odd. I dunno if her personality was molded from her being the artistic type or that she would have had that disposition if she was in another line of work.

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/5/2008 4:33:20 PM | Yep, artists are a different breed of cat. I might almost be tempted to use the word ... eccentric. I have a whole family of artists, myself included. Musicians, writers, painters, actors, the total package. You should see us at family get together s! Whew wee... can we say dysfunctional? With a capital DYS?????
First of all it takes us hours to actually all be in one place. Then when we do congregate, we debate everything under the sun. Weird? Um yah,, but wildly entertaining and a buttload of fun.

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/6/2008 12:07:50 AM | My patented answer for why I don't have a band together ~ Musicians are such flakes that it's tough to get together. Of course there are more mitigating circumstances, living an hour apart, having our own 'day' jobs to schedule ~ but every true musician can always relate to the flake part, tounge firmly implanted in the harmonic cheek.
Then again I'm from a small island. An awesome fiddler could put us right on the map.

| Artists are weird Posted: 12/6/2008 5:13:45 PM | "Ya know what's weirder than artists? fans" Ha..agree on that one for sure...I am an artist, and weird..but I don't care.....weird works well these days....most artists are in some form or another....... | |
|
| Artists are weird Posted: 12/6/2008 5:24:35 PM | | People think I'm weird too, but that's because I have balls to be myself which is FAR from the norm, I just don't front like a lot of people do, why be fake? lol | |
|
| Artists are weird Posted: 12/6/2008 11:53:27 PM | | People usually tell me I'm one of the weirdest people they know, but they love it because there's never a dull moment around me. I'm always stopping on the side of the road to take pictures, chasing lizards and snakes in my yard to look at the patterns and colors in their skin, picking up random pieces of metal to use in sculptures (I found the front axle of a tractor and carried it home over my shoulders), and doing things out of the blue constantly. I like being weird though. Apparently I'm never the same from day to day either. | |
