| HEATLEY to SHARKS Posted: 9/14/2009 5:30:24 AM | The Sens could have gotten a whole lot more for Heatly had he just shut up about it. His market value was chopped in half the day he demanded a trade (ie. Pronger to Anaheim for Lupul and Smid)... and chopped again when he rejected the Oilers trade. Wilson knew he could eventually get Heatly without offering Marleau as part of the deal, as long as he waited long enough. He ended up being the only guy in the entire league who was a willing trade partner. For Murray, you're right, on the surface he loses the trade... but he got rid of a huge cancer before it could even affect training camp.
And really, does San Jose win the trade? I had the Sharks picked as the top team in the West this season. How does Heatly make them any better than that? Best is best. We'll have to see whether he helps them in the playoffs and his post-season track record isn't great.
As for the Sens, they got two NHL players and a second-round pick. Too bad they didn't get a puck-moving defenceman.... but they can still swing something with Edmonton in that regard. The Oilers are actually OVER the cap limit after signing Comrie. The HAVE to get rid of someone. | |

| HEATLEY to SHARKS Posted: 9/14/2009 4:00:01 PM | | I don't think that's such a bad trade for the Sens, sure they could have got more, but Cheechoo will fit in nicely and Michalek is a very good player. Plus they got rid of someone causing trouble who didn't want to be there. I don't think Heatley will turn out to be such a big loss, and maybe the Sharks could have found someone better. Gotta remember it's about a whole team. | |
