Posted: 9/10/2007 2:31:47 PM | Well I would have to say that I am more concerned about the masses of people out there that have no business procreating as you put it , and have abysmal parenting skills at best.
Not everyone feels the need to have children, and the world is full of millions of orphans and otherwise that need good homes. I tend to believe that as human beings we are able to distinguish ourselves from other animals by the use of an opposable thumb, higher cognitive thinking and the ability to resist the urge to produce offspring without considering our motivation for doing so...on the contrary I feel that rushing to have children without being in a solid two parent relationship, being financially stable or going through messy break ups that affect children terribly is much more selfish than deciding that you wish to lead your own life. | |

After babysitting my four year old niece since she was a baby and with the big possibility of being a babysititng to my nephew once he comes along, I dont feel I'd make a good job.
I would feel like a bad person if I gave birth to a baby knowing I wont feel the mothering instinct. T me, thats cruel to the baby, just as cruel as aborting it (although I'm pro-abortion) or giving it up fo adoption.
Also, someone may feel its not the right time to have a baby. In this dark world where we're scared to go out after dark and also ina world where we can go into debt and the future can look bleak....I wouldnt want to bring a child into this world. | |

I NEVER wanted to have kids, don't get me wrong I have 3 now and love them all, but there are days when I think what it would have been like if I didn't. Some people just don't want to give up the freedom of living without diapers, and in a way I can't say I blame them. It is hard, stressful, and if you're on your own...crazy. I don't think it's selfish to not want kids, it's a choice and if those people are positive, for whatever reason, then I think they are actually being responsible. Good for them!
For the record, I wouldn't give my kids up for the world, they DO change your life.
This is just my personal opinion though!! | |

Anyone that has made this choice..can you shed some light on this matter for me..care to share as to why you have chosen not to carry on your blood-line?
I have no kids (that I'm aware of) and I guess I kept postponing it until I felt that I could afford to have them. It's too late now, but I really don't regret not having any.
I'm not all that hung up with feelings of superiority for carrying on "my bloodline".
I believe the biggest problem facing mankind today is uncontrollable population growth and someone has to practice what they believe in. | |

I have a few friends that have chosen not to have children. They are quite happy with their lives as is.. Many of them have extremely busy lifestyles and children just would not fit into their schedules. I think it's better to choose not to have them, than have them because society (or your mother..) tells you you should. | |

Children in the USA have it better in this country than anywhere else in the world especially if they have two normal loving parents in a stable family environment. The social services for children are extremely good in the USA and no children starve to death. Foster homes are easily available for any child that need such care. Take a look at Russia and you will see homeless children on the street in the middle of winter begging for food. And in Brazil where there are many homeless children police death squads are assigned to murder children so they don't interfere with the local tourist economy. | |

Most Americans will tell you how great America is because they have heard it said over and over again since childhood, but the majority know nothing about life in Europe. Be glad most Americans do not know how wonderful Sweden and other places are or they may move there, bring the American ways and hangups with them, and spoil the things that makes those places so wonderful. I was born in the US and been working toward moving to Europe. As far as I am concern the sooner the better.
As for the typical American child: Spoiled, lazy, sheltered, overmedicate, irresponsile and undisciplined. In my opinion, I am living amongst the worst generation of parents that have ever existed in this country. I have tried to hire older teens to work on my farm for 8-10 dollars an hours and few agree to work, the ones that do, do so for a day and don't come back, because they realize they don't have to work, they can just get it from mom or dad, and believe me the work is not hard.
Half of the 25-35 year olds are sitting in their parents houses playing video games while the rest of the people are out working: Just wait and see how the American 10 year olds of today are going to end up!
Question: How does a nation of young people whom don't want to work, compete in a global economy with hungry Indian and Chinese? Answer: They don't. I have to get out of here quick! | |

Posted: 9/11/2007 4:39:47 PM | I personally think it's terrible to see the way non-parents are generalising about those who have kids, with comments like "they are mostly young parents"..what constitutes as a young parent?...16?...20?... 30? Look at the statistics (for the U.K at least) and i think you'll find the average age of childbearing is increasing as more women choose to have careers and put kids on the backburner! Also comments like: "why have kids if you cant afford them?"...Well as the average kid costs something like a quarter of a million pound to raise then it's probably beyond the reach of most of us, so all us "working class" better not have any then!..... Oh dear, that rules out about 80% of us then!!! And as all those "middle/upper class" people are busy earning big bucks and putting kids on the backburner....that rules out the other 20%. So, oops! Looks like the population is due to die out in about....oh, 85 years or so (average life expectancy)....oh well then, better think again about that one!!!!!!!!  | |

Kind of like getting a drivers license.
And if they don't take good care of their children, which includes teaching them good ethics and morality, they should be put in a cage called jail.

Apparently she realizes she has nothing to offer except opening her legs and being a baby-making machine. It's sad, really.
I simply move past these people. Watch the movie Idiocracy and realize that the people who are doing the "smart" thing are actually doing the dumb thing.
See that's what you don't get. I *love* Idiocracy. That concept is exactly why I don't want to have or raise kids, and I don't think anyone with half a brain should. Let the idiots take over, since we seem to be heading in that direction anyway. If those of us worth a shit don't have kids, the cycle stops with us. Then eventually it won't matter when people are Darwinisming themselves out.
