Sure, it's not as pleasurable for the guy, but if you want to give head without a condom, then make sure he's been fully tested for all STDs. "Trust" is over-rated and overused as a word - sometimes people have things and they don't even know it. Just because you "know someone for a long time" or "dated a long time" does not qualify as a medical test for all STDs or mean that they are 100% faithful to you. You can't tell by looking at someone that they are "clean". C'mon people, educate yourselves! Stop catching and spreading STDs! | |

Read this:
Contrary to popular belief, sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) can be transmitted through oral sex. When performing oral sex you can contract such STD's as oral herpes, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital warts and even HIV. The way that STD's are spread is through the sharing of fluid bodily fluids, so if you have a cut in your mouth, even a very small and seemingly harmless or unnoticeable one, you do run the risk of getting an STD even if you are not engaging in sexual intercourse.
Oral Sex and Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is a very common, highly contagious STD that is passed through contact with infectious fluids. Gonorrhea can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, which can lead to abdominal pain and infertility. Infected pregnant women are at increased risk for miscarriage and premature births, and their infants can have serious eye infections. Gonorrhea survives well in the throat, and gonorrhea throat infections from oral sex are relatively common. Most people with throat infections have vaginal or penile infections as well. Although most throat infections from gonorrhea cause no symptoms, you can develop a sore throat, fever and swollen lymph nodes.
Oral Sex and Genital Herpes
Herpes simplex-1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex-2 (HSV-2) are very similar viruses that are transmitted by direct contact. In the past, most cold sores were caused by HSV-1 and most genital herpes was caused by HSV-2. Genital infections cause painful blisters, ulcers and difficulty while urinating and can recur for a whole lifetime. Although ongoing therapy can reduce the number and severity of recurrent infections, there is no cure. Genital infections acquired during pregnancy can cause encephalitis (brain swelling), retardation and death in newborns. Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be spread from an infected person to an uninfected person even if the infected person has no visible sores. Both viruses are easy to spread through oral sex. Oral sex appears to be changing how many people get herpes and where they get it. In one study of STD clinic attendees, those who had oral sex during the preceding two months were three times more likely to have genital HSV-1 than HSV-2.10 This is the opposite of what used to be seen, when most genital infections were caused by HSV-2.
Oral Sex & Chlamydia
Chlamydia is the most common bacterial STD in the U.S. It is particularly common among sexually active youth. In addition to vaginal sex, chlamydia appears to be transmissible through oral sex. In one study of persons in an STD clinic, one of every 30 patients had a throat culture positive for chlamydia. Women who practiced oral sex were three times more likely to have chlamydia in their throats than other women.
Oral Sex & HPV
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral STD and is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact. Genital warts are caused by some types of HPV and cervical cancer is caused by other types. Cervical cancer kills more than 4,000 women each year in the U.S. HPV appears to be transmissible by oral sex. Adults with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (a throat condition that causes hoarseness) were more likely than uninfected adults to have practiced oral sex.
Oral Sex & HIV
HIV is transmitted through contact with infected blood or body fluid. Infected pregnant women can pass it to their babies. The virus invades the immune system and destroys it over time. The destruction of the immune system reduces a person’s ability to fight off infections and cancer. People with HIV eventually develop AIDS, which is often fatal. When first infected, you may only have flu-like symptoms (feeling tired, feverish or achy) that last a little while. You may have no other symptoms for years. If you go on to get AIDS, you may get multiple infections that other people fight off easily, such as tuberculosis, pneumonia and yeast infections. Anal sex, multiple partners or shooting drugs are particularly high-risk activities. Transmission of the virus also occurs during vaginal and oral sex. Recent estimates of the proportion of new HIV cases attributable to oral sex range from less than 1 percent to 7 percent.

But, reading this forum is like beating your head against a brick wall. These people can't be ignorant if they know how to read - so either they are stupid, don't care, or they are deluded. The prevailing "condom" of the mind is that "it can't happen to me". We "know" each other, we "trust" each other, etc. etc. etc. And that's precisely why STD's are growing at such an alarming rate.
A person can be trustworthy but not know they have something like herpes (oral or genital).OR a person can seem trustworthy but be lying. A person can be clean (that is, take 3 showers a day) - that has NOTHING to do with it. And they may not be promiscuous at all.
1. When doctors do routine STD screening they do NOT test for things like herpes. You have to specifically request it.
2. Herpes 1 on the genitals is the fastest growing type of herpes because of the widespread practice of oral sex, and because of the prevailing notion that oral sex is not sex.
3. Between outbreaks of herpes (cold sores) there is viral shedding which means the carrier is infectious.
Get tested for EVERYTHING, wait 3 months, get tested again, and then stay monogamous and throw the condoms away.
For those of you guys who are willing to take the risk, go on the net and google herpes images. So.....what's the nicer thought - that? - or condoms.....or proper testing?

Its pathetic to see how many people actually have a working brain out there.
I cant take anybody that says "cant get pregnant by mouth" seriously.
I am not afraid to admit that I HAVE caught Chlam and Gono BY ORAL. Oh wait? ORAL! geesh what happened? I trusted someone that seemed worthy of trust... This happened in a period of a year or so... The guys even "****ed" that they didnt have anything until they got tested and then they found that they were asymptomatic carriers... meaning they didnt know they carry it and showed no signs of it. I passed it on to a few guys that I had to call and let them know about it. It sucked. Now I am in a LTR which is great, but if I have to go down the dating path again... condom will be worn while bj's and if they dont want it... then no bj's. Putting your health at risk and actually getting an STI make you have a different outlook in life. Oh and the guys were successful guys and guys that looked nice and that came from a good family :) go figure!

for the health nuts,,, condoms not bullet proof, condoms not slip proof ( in my experience ), ,, it must be possible to xmit buggies with sweat and or spit, which i have found to be common ingredients in adult shake and bake... both partners need oversized, contractor strenght, garbage bags, cut lil peep holes.. careful and not drip a tear on each other you might die...

we live in a world of paranoia and guilt about sex, we want to sterilize it. for the people who insist on using a condom during blowjobs, do you also keep a handy supply of latex dental dams to use when you or your partner eat pussy or lick a$$? i doubt it. body fluids are body fluids people.
biology lesson: regardless, the risk of acquiring most forms of STD via oral transmission is relatively low -- tho you can transmit cold sores (herpes simplex 1) to the genitals, and genital herpes (herpes simplex 2) to the mouth, and transmission of gonorrhea, hepatitis B, syphilis, or chlamydia is also possible. herpes is visible in it's infectious stage...great excuse for lights on. hepatitis B vaccines exist, so go get yours done. syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea are curable by antibiotics. all studies show HIV transmission to be a very low risk for oral transmission.
and to answer the OP's question: nope, i don't use condoms when giving bj's...even the flavoured ones taste awful. | |

HPV in the mouth is a horrid thing. the warts can grow and block the airway.. Being a nurse have seen too many nasty things, that could have been prevented.
