My friend across the street from me likes to play his XBox. Sometimes he invites me over so I can play with him... While I'm there his wife is on the phone for a few hours talking to someone or another. After she gets off, within 5 minutes, she will start nagging him about him playing video games all day.
Hes like "You've been on the phone all day...?"
To her, hes addicted to video games and thats all he does all day.
To him, she is on the phone all day, but that is a good excuse to play video games.
The difference, the woman likes to nag, and the man just does his thing. | |

Posted: 8/30/2005 6:51:26 PM | I have to admitt, I am constantly logged into my game (a MUD).. rather I'm playing it or not. I spend several hours a day actually sitting at it, and a few hours a day playing a character on it. It isnt just men ;) It is addicting, it's a conquest you simply cant wait to beat, win or in my case it's roleplaying. When I have company, I -try- not to be as involved in my game, but there are times I'm needed (Hey, I pay the bills to have it online) so I take care of the problem then return to my company. My friends all know I'm dedicated to my MUD, so they find something on one of my other computers to occupy them til I'm done.

Posted: 8/30/2005 6:58:56 PM | I knew a couple that almost ended thier marraige-they were at each others throats-only because they fought over the game-not about a game but who would get on the pc and play first and who would get off to let the other play-lol I love games-that's when people need two 'puters in a marraige. I got on one game at night and time slipped by so fast it was 7am..it's as addictive as playstation or atari to some. Yet I can understand the woman feeling neglected and shoved to the side as second best to the video game-if she is longing to be loved or is wanting some intimacy-don't likely know if there are men who would set that on the back burner to win the highest level of a game. hmmmm Toleave a man over that is a sudden surprise-it is not like it couldn't have been patched up or worked on. | |

I would rather my fellow on the xbox for hours for a bit of escapism [ we all need it - women shop, men go the bar??] than going to the pub for hours and drinking or on the net chatting up Lara Croft lookalike. I don't play video games but I do play computer war games. (I am a tester for a game company) Historical subjects. I can't do the manual dexterity games the ones I like are maps and units where you enter orders and then execute the turn. (So if a naked lady required attention I could stop and not lose my place)
But then I don't have someone waiting on me so all my time is my own. The games I play are all ones where 2 (or more) people can play. (So few female Grognards out there)
I was in the Navy when I was married and I had a commodore 64. I had a game called "7 cities of gold" where you had to explore the new world. You had to decide to be nice or cruel to the natives and you could tell by the speed the drums beat. I was always nice but when I came home my wife was playing and the drums were playing wipeout. | |

Posted: 8/30/2005 9:02:35 PM | Video games should be reguarded like television in a relationship. It's the same thing except you are participating/typing/ect. That being said, it's unhealthy to sit and watch TV for an extended period of time. So, it's also unhealthy to sit on the computer for a long period of time. I used to play Everquest a whole lot, and I only did so to cloud out the recent heartbreak I underwent. Take my mind off it. Well, as time passed, I started becoming outdoorsy again.
Anyhow, if it comes to the point your mate never gets affection, and your children aren't being raised by anyone but themselves, it's time to turn it off. You'd be suprised how fun it is just tossing a ball with your son, or playing barbies with your girl. Those are moments more precious than some video game. I don't have kids personally, but if I did, my video game time would go to almost nothing.
Key is, to limit yourself. Games like Everquest are time involved, and often pull you into it. For every hour you play it, you should spend around 2-3 hours doing something active or with your family. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later for it. I know I have. | |
