I think its very sad to see grown men sitting on their backsides all day doing nothing but playing these games.... i mean seriously ... werent they meant for kids???
As for it being a hobby...... Fishing is a hobby..... Sport is a hobby. .... Get a life guys!!
I see posts like this, and cringe. Go to the ESRB website some time, and search for M (17+) games. Some of the top selling games are in there. Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six 2, Dawn of War, Half Life (series), Halo (series). Their database features 1,183 M rated games. These games are NOT for kids.
I will say it again... The average age of gamers is in their early 30s. I have been the average of gamer for easily the past 10 years. The industry has grown up. It is not for kids anymore. Nintendo makes a lot of kids games, but creates them in such away that adults enjoy them too. Gaming is a hobby, even if you want to try and deny it, the numbers are quite overwhelming. There is a reason that Peter Jackson is on to produce a Halo movie... These are not for kids, but serious, and for adults.
I can't wait for when the younger generations move forward, and completely stamp out the ignorant comments that games are for kids. They are stories, with adult themes. They are fun for ALL ages... you can be a rock star, a special forces operative, heck in a game like sims, you can control your own living doll house... There are games for everyone. | |

All it is going to take is a few really, really good game based movies to up the numbers a bit on Bol's next movie. Given that he's made his entire career off of German tax shelters that refund your money when your movie fails, I'd like to see him actually have to try to have a career. | |

Posted: 3/1/2008 6:28:39 PM | Fishing is a sport where grown men sit on their butts and do "Manly Things"...most of which involve farting, belching, drinking alcohol, seeing how far they can spit, peeing over the side of the boat and seeing how far it'll go, and other pursuits of dubious nature.
NASCAR fans do many of the same things except when they pee they do it on the side of their RV and generally won't spit on the track so it won't make their favorite driver spin out.
Football fans...My Good Woman...have you ever seen a fat man that has his upper torso painted in his favorite team colors?? It's FRIGHTENING!! but somehow...oddly reassuring.
All in all...gamers do pretty much the same thing but hopefully engauge in better hygene.  | |

Video games can be a genuine addiction like smoking or drugs, and they do break up relationships. I'll always feel guilty because while addicted myself, I told a professional acquaintance what a wonderful game it was. He went out and bought a copy. Sadly, he was susceptible to the addiction. Like me, on by 8 or 9 in the evening, play until 2 or 3 in the morning, and every spare moment you can squeeze out of the weekend.
In the end, things got so bad in his marriage his wife said, "Me, or the WarCraft. Decide." And he said, "Well, let's file." And they did. When you are in the grip of the alternate reality of Azeroth out in the starfields of cyberspace, you find real people troublesome interruptions.

If your grammar and vocabulary are any indication of your intelligence and ability to interact with 'living people' then I think you're best served by staying home. I'll take the company of gamers, real and virtual, over yours any time.

Women do not have the ability to do that, they are natural multitaskers, and I do not qualify one or the other as more valuable. These are just biological facts. When Edison invented the light bulb, he surely did not manage to do that by simultaneously handling three kids, four pans, doing groceries, washing, cleaning etc.; no, he probably locked himself up in the attic until that damn thing started to work. So, to answer the OP: it is male nature to do that, it is that simple. | |

Just like if I'm sitting by myself I'm often doing 2 or 3 things at once.
If I'm playing something, I'm listening to something else. Or watching something.
Yes, I can get lost in a game on occasion. I also get lost in books.
No... Edison probably didn't juggle all of those things while he was working on the light bulb.
But you also have to recognize that he was one of the father's of the modern industrial research laboratory, and it isn't unthinkable that he had more than one project on his plate at a time.
Edison was probably a poor example though. He was a remarkable man. | |

I play games on occasion, it is fun but I like other things too. Games are not my life (I actually enjoy making them or making the music for them).
Some people like it and some people don't like 893274893274892743 hobbies in the world.
Some games are challenging and some games really make you think (good old puzzle games). I know there exists at least one game for every person to enjoy. So many types for so many people. | |

1)video games are an escape from reality. They let you indulge into worlds other than the one of which we currently reside.
2)Also...helps relieve stress sometimes esp if yur really pissed at someone and imagine your boss' head instead of the weird alien dudes featured on Halo.
3) They're extremely addicting!!!!!
4) Its not just guys that ruin relationships with them. Some girls do too (including myself) so its not all one sided. | |

I have other hobbies that can be as detrimental or worse to a relationship. Being a musician is one of them. It does not matter how trust worthy I am, a lot of women find my time with my buddies, and the shows that I have played to be time away from them and in the arms of other potential women. I do not play music for girls, I play it for myself...however that is a little off topic. I do not find gamers all that bad, I find it bad when they get involved in a games to the point they nolonger have a life. | |

It is like someone said earlier, it is sort of like a hobby. A cure for boredom. We don't always feel like "going for a walk" or "having a game of hockey with the boys". Sometimes us guys just like to get together, have a few grown up sodas and play vids. I do admit though, some people are just a little to addicted to it. As for Grand Theft Auto being banned? Why? Children are not supposed to be playing those games. That is why the box says 18 and over. It is the parents that should be watching what they buy for their children. | |
