I don't understand things like that-- unless I'd just gotten home with a release that I'd just bought and have been looking forward to for quite a while.... but even then, it isn't like it's got a time limit on it (like a TV show I'd been looking forward to or something).

Well, I play video games quite regular, not for hours and hours but just for some fun with my buddies who play online. We meet up, have a laugh and I'm still there if my kids need me.

I don't go out gettin lashed, saves my money and my liver.

I don't smoke.

So personally I think it's just about my own space and doin my own thing for a bit.

I guess if you work in the video game industry you would be in trouble.

Ladies.. if you would just pick up the controler, you would get more sex..

http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/02/female_gamers_h.html

All that said.. it is the guys.. not the games.. If I'm mid-game and a lovely naked female body walks by well.. the game will be there when we're done.

Assuming she has left me the strength to move..

there is a save part that he can always come back to!

I was gonna make this argument too, but I've been replaying some of my old games lately, and many of them have conditions that must be met in order to save the game. Some games make you reach "save points," others require "pay points to save," and another group doesn't let you save during certain sequences.

But I think that it is unreasonable to expect a person to drop what they're doing with a "right this second" attitude. Asking for 10 or 20 minutes to wrap up shouldn't be a problem.

Though I wouldn't really mind that if I have the option to save/quit right away. I just hate to go with the "pause it and leave it on all day" method, 'cause it's such a waste of resources.

This topic still makes me sad. If playing video games makes me a boy, then so be it, I'm a young child who got a sex change. I don't see how playing video games is ANY less mature then going shopping for ZOMG NEW CLOTHEZZZ GOTTA HAVE ITTTTTTT CUZ I GOTTA LOOK LIKE PARIS HILTONNNNNN.

Get over yourselves, seriously. If you don't like video games, then don't date men who play them. If you do, you brought it upon yourself so either accept it or move on with your life.

You beat me to it. Most people in our society think gaming is stupid. Or it's for kids. What exactly makes it so "kiddy"? What makes it stupid? It doesn't "expand your mind"? You people claim this because you're uninterested in the medium, and therefore aren't looking to see anything beyond the surface, which appears to be cars crashing, blowing stuff up, raping hookers, etc. The GTA series tells a LOT about American society. God of War & Dynasty Warriors are bloody well near mythology textbooks. Series like Project Gotham, Madden, and Rock Band allow people to get involved in activities or interests that we might never have been able to do.

As for it ruining relationships, it only ruins the relationship as much as you let it. If you've never even tried out whatever it was that he loved so much, you're guilty of contributing to the relationship's downfall. However, I'm not going to completely absolve him - there's a reason why EverQuest is called "EverCrack." But just lamenting video games based on one type is silly. I'm a hardxcore gamer and I've never seriously played an MMO[RPG] (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game aka EverQuest, City of Heroes, Star Wars: Galaxies, The Sims, etc). What you did right there is the equivalent of somebody listening to a crappy pop song and deciding that ALL music sucks based on that one song.

I just picked up on something, dont know if anyone else has noticed....

Several responses from women have all had a "whiney" tone to them... one even exclaims she wishes she had, "more Power" over her man... against the video game.

Which was the key post that enlightned me to this possibility..... Once again, Women dont like it when they are NOT the center of attention. They hold no "power" in comparison to a video game, and they cant fly into a jealous rage because her mate isnt messing around with another female, its just a video game, they dont have a leg to stand on for throwing a temper tantrum.... So it leaves them essentially "powerless"

LOL... Whats that joke about the three things women desire most, Power, Money, and Social Status?? A three legged stool cant stand on just two!

Just an observation

Ok

So, I play video games. More specifically, RockBand. It's a game we can both play. I try to get her involved with it.

Sometimes she doesn't want to, so I've found her some games that she likes... such as the Sims, etc.

I've been reading these boards for a while and all I see is women complaining about everything their husband/boyfriend does.

STOP COMPLAINING AND DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO FIX IT.

Smuggler (msg 761), you deserve an award for that message.

I have a similar view with Scream1969 (msg 18), although I've gone the heretical way of removing every game off my computer recently. With that said, I'm far more into my music arrangements, but video games will always be there when I need to come back to them.

these men need a reality check-

they need to be asked in all seriousness this:

when you are 99 and on your death bed would you like to be thinking to yourself "wow, i played 8,888,888,888 billion games of (insert some lame game here) " or would you like to say "wow, i saw 1,000 sunsets, kissed my wife 24 million times, climbed every mt. in the world and rescues 18 animals...etc etc....

which seems like a fufilling life?

Somedaymaybe,

The games are lame to you because you're not into them. Insert any hobby, that if taken to the extreme you'll get the same results.

Everyone has a different idea what will be fulfilling in their life, and there's no one right answer. If a couple spends their days playing video games (there are plenty of cooperative games out there, and Co-op is usually the only type of games I generally play), they could easily do everything on your list, and live happily ever after.

If I do something I enjoy up to the day I die, then that will be fulfilling to me.

Get a reality check and be a little more open minded.

In addition to my previous post about women with a "whining" tone to their posts... and how they hold absolutly NO power over the video game, therefore write it off as a useless waste of time....

Here, is Exhibit A

these men need a reality check-
they need to be asked in all seriousness this:
when you are 99 and on your death bed would you like to be thinking to yourself "wow, i played 8,888,888,888 billion games of (insert some lame game here) " or would you like to say "wow, i saw 1,000 sunsets, kissed my wife 24 million times, climbed every mt. in the world and rescues 18 animals...etc etc....

which seems like a fufilling life?

Men need a reality check....
I would suggest that WOMEN need the reality check. YOU are NOT the center of the world, and to those Men who make you the center, you neither appreciate, nor respect that. You call him a wuss, walk all over him in search of something better. And after you get used by whatever man you choose to blame, only then do you realize how good you HAD it... try to Go back, but your previous guy has discovered the video game... and you whine about it...

when you are 99 and on your death bed woudl you like to be thinking to yourself, "wow, I played 8,888,888,888 billion games.....
Hmmmm VS what?
Notice gentleman, the play on the senses...
1,000 sunsets, kissed my wife 24 million times, climbed every MT in the world, rescues 18 animals....

Please... Im 40 years old... Ive seen a Thousand sunsets, in over 12 different countries, Yep, they were breath taking... But most of the time, the reason I was out watching sunsets.... Some bytch just finished running me through the wringer, I was broke because of her, I didnt have anything else better to do!!!!
Once again, it seems that a womans idea of a fulfilling life, seems to center around her, and what we as men can do... for her. Nice Romantic View on life there..... Now, DEAL WITH REALITY...

Video games can be addictive, but generally like anything else, they can be used in reasonable moderation.

I don't Think Men ruin Reltionships with Video games...
Obviousy someone is a little pissed that someone is spending a little less time on them and to much time playing games..
Obviously you must not be communicating your problems or your not interesting your better half
Just my opinion

The men I know who do play video games claim the games are more interesting / stimulating than their partner.

This story goes both ways. Women do it too. I'm not arrogant enough to say I had no blame when my marriage ended but I will say that if my ex wife hadn't been spending 8 hours a night playing WoW she might not have been "too tired" to talk with me about our real life issues. We used to play together all the time and everyone ignored her because she sucks at video games. Then she posted her picture on line and all of a sudden every guy on the server wanted to play with her. In the end she divorced me because I wasn't letting her "live her life". The reality is that all I wanted was for her to live her real life, she was just ignoring it altogether. Last I heard she is dropping out of her masters program. She was an honors student with a 4.0 before she started playing that game.

real life > internet life

This coming from a person who loves video games.

I've had boyfriends who, when offered sex on a platter, chose video games instead"

Wow, you make it sound as if your vagina is lined with gold.
