| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 7/30/2006 11:02:37 AM | I'll have to agree with Winnepeg..........They were a great hockey city and can be again for sure!
Truth be told, there are many deserving cities in Canada and not so many in the US although it's all about the money in the end...........even if that means hockey in Nashville!!!??? The day people in the south (of the US) (other than transplanted fans) understand hockey, please call me.

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 7/31/2006 8:05:01 AM | # 1. Hamilton but it can never happen(Buffalo and Toronto will not allow it). but wouldn'tit be great if the Leafs actually had to be competitive to attract fans?
2. Winnipeg 3. Iandianapolis 4. Milwaulkee 5. Cleveland

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 7/31/2006 5:31:03 PM | Puerto Rico they all ready have a brand new arena that holds around 16 000 people. and with no other pro sports it makes sense....maybe why the nhl is holding a pre season game there this year. just throwing it out there. how about adding in a europe/russia divison? why stay small and only be in north america. if done right kinda like how the chl does the memorial cup it would be great.
i still think how can work in the typical hockey markets, the people there just need some info on the game. better sportscaster and some local coverage would do wounders. heck look at how the canes fans were out doing the oilers fans in the finals. with more and more american players in the nhl, and good ones also its going to help the sport done there also. face it americans like to see american sports stars.
i really would like to see the nhl in a few years branch off and include some non-north american teams into the nhl. the nhl never will be able to do that. and some markets are just dieing for a pro sports team, it would help with other counties youth programs and kids wanting to get into the game also.
go flames go in sutter we trust canada double gold in 2010

Outside of N. America is fine as long as they have NHL size ice.

I think Toronto, Chicago and Long island deserve NHL franchises. Competitively speaking that is.
LOL
But be careful... Gretzky basically said the same thing about the Red Wings in the early 80s and over the last 15 yrs the Red Wings have been the Best record in the NHL.

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/2/2006 11:31:06 AM | As far as yankee cities, i'm not sure, but if i would, i'd look at states near our border, lol. Didn't the Winnipeg Jets draw close to 15 grand a game most of the years, even later, lean ones? I vote for them, and if they could keep their mosquitoes alive during winter, and throw in visitor's lockerroom, they'd have definite home ice advantage. | |

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/2/2006 2:33:59 PM | Canada: Winnipeg, Quebec City US: Cincinnati, Kansas City, Cleveland & Hartford
I know all but Cincinnati had NHL franchises before and lost them. Cincy had a WHA team and declined the NHL's offer when the 2 leagues merged.

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/3/2006 4:29:19 AM | | I think a team needs to go to Quebec City so that hockey fans can witness the re-birth of one of hockey's greatest rivalries, which was just really getting re-started again with the Habs and Nordiques meeting in the opening round of the 1992-93 playoffs! | |

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/5/2006 2:16:10 PM | | Not necessarilly. Have you ever tried to get tickets to the Leafs? You can't. The only way to get them is through scalpers and $300 a piece. I think it would be good if Hamilton got a team because everyone has their own team that they route for and they might go see them in Hamilton when they're playing. | |

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/7/2006 7:36:30 PM | Which ever City in Canada or the US that can actually support an NHL team should apply for one. It would be nice to see the return of some sort of Winnipeg and Quebec franchise. It must have been really tough on the Nordique fans to see their Stanley Cup raised in Colorado. Realistically if the game couldn't survive in these cities, why would the NHL even consider places like St. John's? If there is any Canadian city that has the best chance of an NHL team, it would be a city like Winnipeg.
As far as the US goes, they don't have anywhere near the same financial commitments that a Canadian team has, therefore, I am certain there are several possibilities. Las Vegas and Hartford were two cities rumoured to be interested in an NHL team. As well St. Paul wanted to replace the departed Stars despite the Wilds presence.
Most likely you wont see any expansion for a couple of years at least if the NHL decides to expand.

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/11/2006 11:47:40 AM | | a team needs 17000-18000 seat arena and although the new cba makes the playing ground a little more level any team is still going to need to spend 35-40 million in payroll.. that leaves a lot of the smaller centres in canada out, although i would love to see a maritimes team... hamilton would need a bigger /better arena... i think a seattle or portland site makes sense | |

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/27/2006 9:38:57 PM | In Canada,
Hamilton definitly.
You guys who say "oh that wont happen because it'll kill toronto's fanbase"... I say LOL to that. Isn't it nearly a 20 year waiting list for season tickets for the Leafs?
It would, however, hurt the Sabres. There are a lot of Sabre season ticket holders who live in the Niagara region, and I'd imagine Hamilton. If Hamilton got a team, they'd steal some fans from the Sabres, and it would seriously hurt that teams poor market.
In the States,
Houston.
Hockey seems to be doing really well in Dallas, why not try it out in Houston? The monies there, the people are there, etc.

| Which city in Canada or the US deserves a Hockey Franchise Posted: 8/27/2006 10:05:01 PM | Well, you know what they say about Hamilton; If they get a professional hockey team, then Toronto will want one, too!
Seriously, though, Quebec, Winnipeg and Hamilton should definitely get teams. In the U.S., Seattle and Portland would be good choices.
