Trick is trying to demonstrate their use

The original posting indicates they be used like this -> :number: where number is replaced with the numeral identifying the emoticon you wish to use.

Hope that helps.

Rhyme with me: "emoticons are devil spawn". The vile banana haunts my dreams -> I was forced to block the path so that I never see emoticons on this site. Which makes this thread pretty fun to read.

austral: how is it done???/[61] 61 54
I give up...lesson please

just use full colons either side of the number or word (with no spaces)

= : banana : (but with no spaces)
= : 107 : (but with no spaces)

I have found if they seem not to work, it's good joss to bung an arrow in there somewhere too. seems to get them going >>> dunno why. maybe I am full of it?

Happy emoting!

I am not sure why I don't really go for them. I find them particularly distracting when I am looking at profiles. I think it they looked better I might like them, but how do you improve on the look of a emoticon?

[qu0te]I used to think emotes were pretty gay until I started posting here...(almost as gay as a couple men sharing a fondue in a swiss ski chalet)

I notice a few people around here rarely use them. What's your take on them?

I am one of the posters who doesn't regularly use emoticons. It is really easy to tell you what my take on people who do not use emoticons is. People who do not use a lot of emoticons choose to and can express themselves in words. Having said this - I like the kissy emoticon, too.

^^^ The OP started in 05 and most of the posts are from 06. I don't think the original coding for emoticons works anymore. The ones we use nowadays use words rather than numbers between the quotes. Add a bunch to your reply - you'll see the word in codes in your post.

Thanks Merry!:headbanger: darn it! guess that's not his "words"! lol
But, if anyone knows the headbanger one's code(you know banging head on computer?)
I would love to be able to use it on occasion!
I have a proven record of being emoticon frugal btw! and that is not going to change!

OR your link HERE still is not correct it is the one already posted on a previous page that is outdated.
I just tried it again.

^^^ Rita

I am unaware of another page but the page at the link above provides useful information nonetheless. A crude method would be post your message with a regular emoticon, then edit your post and swap in the number with the number of the desired image.

Another, which I used here, typing ":" on each side of a number, the number corresponding to the image from the webpage.

Good one Walts, where did you find that one?

:61: What am I doing wrong?

I tried it again Xavery and it's still not working. There are no spaces and I checked the code.

Emoticon given for colon61colon - no spaces.

It looks like you have a space after the number, Black S. However, this is what I got used when I used number 61. So, perhaps you aren't using the right number. I have learned something. I did not realize that people were using codes to insert emoticons. Now, I see the entire emoticon thing in a new light.

colon61colon - have tried several combinations!

To be safe, allow 2 Spaces before and after the Colon|Number|Colon Code.

Profiles: Headline
What is between Colons is converted to Smilies available for use on this Site.
Hence the Numbers beside the Smilies in the Link above.

And even more Smilies:Smilies/Emoticons

For Instance, if you type --> or :12: it will be converted to --->

Make sure there are 2 Spaces on both ends of the Colons, so as not to mesh in with other Characters outside the Code before you post your Forum or E-Mail Message or Profile Update. Once you have posted it, it will only show a 1 Space Gap.

Hi, if I click on Yay I get a wink. Also, how do I get the kiss one? It's not available when you write a message. There is a link to a forum with all the numbers but Kiss isn't amongst them.
