To go by the 'basic' Sign shown in every newspaper's is like dating only people your height to find compatibility.
If your love signs (the Plantes Mars and Venus) compliment each other (even by element like water, fire, etc.) there may be an initial attraction.
You really need to know a person's Rising Sun Sign (sorry if you don't know what that is ... astrology.com) because it colours there personality with attributes that are uncharacteristic in there Sun Sign (yours is Taurus). Next you want to know the Moon Sign (governs moods and emotional states) and finally the Mercury Sign (governs how you communicate).
The strongest attraction happen when (if I remember correctly based on 'The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need'):
A's Venus (loves, tastes, *) is in the same Sign as B's Mars (energy, passion, sexdrive, **)
A's Moon is in the same Sign as B's Venus (loves and tastes) is in
A's Rising Sun is in the same Sign as B's Moon (moods)
*in women, the type of man a woman is attracted to
**in men, the type of woman a man finds attractive
Given what I have said I'm sure you can see why the local newspaper only displays the 'basic' signs.
They don't want to confuse their customers, they just want to take their money.
Most of the women I have met have been:
Capricorns (polar opposite in the opposite sex)
Water Signs like mine (Scorpio and Pisces)
Women strongly influenced by Gemini/Aquarius
