couldn't personally e-mail you a thanks... Sounds like you got beauty in the eye of the beholder figured out. I have changed alot since I posted this thread and each of you wonderful people have had a hand in it. love and life is a 50-50 situation and it does take give and take in a loving and caring situation. At times tho I still want to withdraw into the protective shell that protected me all those years. I don't do it but still have an occasional urge to retreat...best of luck love123

ladypagey.....

From this beholder I think are a beautiful person.....
You have a twinkle in your eye, and a warmth in your smile.

Your words are always positive, encouraging, gracious, in essence......good.

You are such a loving person, as evident by your posts, even if your marriage was not all what you had hoped it to be.

To come from that and be the person who you are today, truly is a beautiful person.

I have only been with Plentyoffish for a few days so hope I am not to late to comment on this thread.
First Ladypagey I came onto the "site" because of a mutual friend of ours.
We were "talking" on AOL messenger yesterday, and she assked me if I had yet made any contact with you (did yesterday...but guess you are busy). The first thing I told her was , "No not yet, but I read Ladypagey's contact details...saw her photo...AND WHAT A LOVELY SMILE SHE HAS".
Your late husband must have been blind.....For your very smile is beauty. No...this is not a come on. if you read my own contact details you will note that I say that whaateever I write will be the absolute truth. Liars do not get anywhere..for what goes around , comes around. They will come unstuck one day.

Ones beauty is reflected in the interior of their mind, and within theeir very heart.
And the heart requiring room for other things will transform this beauty into a smile.
For your husband to have said you were not beautiful was because his own heart was really so empty, that there was no need to transfer to a smile......His own lack of beauty did not allow him to recognise the lovliness within the lady chosen to be his partner.

He was the one to have missed out . For beauty is carried on a smile. Beauty is the scent of a Rose. It is the giving of true love. It is in understanding. It is the color of the Rainbow. It is the sound of bird song. And it is within an understanding heart.

A lady does not have to be a glamorous film star, a model, wear "tons" of make-up.
Just to be ones natural, caring, loving self, is beautiful. Judge your beauty by the friends in your life...and you will then realise you own true Beauty.

{Pity I live in the UK. and you in the USA.....'cos that should be worth one of your home cooked meals....

YOU as Ladypagey are very special people with wonderful kind hearts. I only wish more people could see the beauty within a person and not just look on the outside.

LadyP, you are one of the most Beautiful ladies I have ever met. Then again I am not a man !
Unfortunatly many men are first attracked to the package but it is what is in your heart that keeps them. Regardless, you have a beauty about you that glistens like a halo. I am wondering if your exhusband was drunk or blind at the time ? Darling you are a beautiful lady and don't you forget it.
Bright Blessings

True beauty begins on the inside and radiates outwardly. So if you are beautiful inside, it shows on the outside. This is the essence of a truly beautiful person.

Ladypagey,

I'm sorry this happened to you

For me it starts from inner beauty and yes the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Yes, it is the kind of beauty that age can't diminish nor time take away. This is the beauty we should all strive for, it can't be acheived by sexy clothes or plastic surgery. It is absolute and true beauty.

Wow, alot of responces to this one! The title of this thread stands alone as a statement ... Beauty IS in the eyes the the beholder. As many responces stated, slot of people are way to hung up on looks. But this statement transcends that to looking inward for that beauty. I have met several women that at first look appear plain or unattractive to me open up and once that inner beauty comes out there is a very different perception. I have also have met several women that I found very attractive, yet when got to know them better did not find them attractive at all. My ex was (and is) a very attractive lady. She was always amazed that even when she gained alot of weight with our first child or at times when she thought of herself as very unattractive, I still found her beautifull. I think more than anything it is how you hold the image of the other person in your heart.

ladypagey, I wish it were still true. I'm afraid it has been changed because our consciousness have been bombarded with images of the hollywood perfect people. I think the media is at fault for this.

LadyP

I know, I and many more POFishers would hate too see you go. Your insite and kind words touch every forum poster on every thread that you respond to and what about our diet thread we would be lost without you.

Good point about media and hollywood having an influence on the image of beauty. So,
"Don't read beauty magazines they will only make you feel ugly" ! From a song I heard once.

I work in the beauty industry performing skincare services I have been in this bussiness for 17 yrs. The most beautiful women I have seen are those that have that radiance about them. Something that can't be bought. I personaly when meeting someone for a date don't have to be with the greatest looking guy, just someone pleasing to the eye. It is their inner beauty that sparks my interest and their energy of light that makes them much more attractive. You know the chemistry if it's there that person is the most beautiful, handsome being around.

Don't worry about me leaving as I have learned alot by simply being here. Beauty for example... Inner beauty radiating outward... who would tell me that if I wasn't here? I need each of you to offer great advise and keep me going. Thanks smoochie.Where would I be without each of you?

it has been 15 years and maybe what he was trying to say was he loved you and married you for who you were and who he thought you would be later in life.so i think he was saying to you is that your true beauty and not your outer skin features was not the reason he married you.. we all know the body and face changes though the ageing process . i have dated some very pretty women and i have found that it was my ego that made me want just arm candy. what i was looking for all the time was a beautiful person inside . so please think of it as a compliment that he wasn't looking for just arm candy. he was looking for and found the complete package . yes you was beautiful in his eyes and let there be no doubt in your mind that he didn't believe you weren't.

you have a block on my age or I would have voiced this in a personal e-mail. Thru all the favorable responses I now feel beautiful from beauty radiating outward but the truth is he was in love with someone else thru out our marriage and only married me cause he could not have who he really wanted. He was honest about that and what he liked about me was my age and that is why he married me. His treatment of me almost destroyed my self worth and thusly I went into a survival mode for years. It is because of POF that I can honestly say I can look at myself in the mirror and say beauty radiates from inside. Love each of you great people.

The phrase is true, but is taken out of context by most people. It seems some people will pursue anyone they think is attractive hoping that possibley this beautiful person will see them as beautiful. Using a numeric scale I've seen 4's go after 9's and then feel rejected.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but some are behold by more people than others.

I would honestly like to think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I thought I found someone who felt that way about me.....and he did, but 2 other women also lol. Anyway, I think if more people honestly looked at the inside instead of the outside, they would find the most beautiful women in the world under the surface.

Its the "she has this something" thing you can't explain. Ever felt that? For every man, there's a special woman. A woman that inspires you with her beauty, with her actions, with the way she makes you feel. Its a matter of sensitivity, I guess. If a man has the eyes, the heart and the sensitivity, he will bring out the beauty in a woman naturally, because he feels it.

This is how the Dali Lama is chosen ....by seeing on the outside what is on the inside.

True beauty does begin on the inside and radiate outard, but it's not Instant Karma as John Lennon would say. It takes generations for it to show on the surface.

A person smiling in Finland for 30,000 years is going to have a happy nature and a killer smile.

We Americans think beauty can be painted on, bought, sold on a TV commerical, it can't, it grows over the generations and yes.....it's passed on in procreation.

Jack and Filmmaker......I feel you 2 gentlemen have the right view. In todays society, beauty is based on the outside. Everyone has to be tall, thin, shapely, radiating. I am all that, but I keep it well covered to protect it The man who takes a chance with me will find the beauty on the inside, along with intelligence, and a good sense of humor. But alas, the outside is currently under construction

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. I don't like it when teh media and society and stuff try to influence our perception of what is beautiful and "ugly". Thats why so many people views on beauty and "ugliness" are so perverted.

Everyone is beautiful in their own special way and that should be know and understood that societies "vision" or "idea" of beauty should NOT effect our decisions and views of how we judge others on it.
