Intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED) is a tort claim of recent origin for intentional conduct that results in extreme emotional distress. Some courts and commentators have substituted mental for emotional, but the tort is the same. Some jurisdictions refer to IIED as the tort of outrage.
It IS an actionable tort here in the states to intentionally, and with callous disregard, inflict emotional pain on someone else.
I didnt read all of this, and have no idea how it all turned out, just thought I'd share the Wikipedia definition of "Infliction of Emotional Distress " . People should walk easily in this litigious society of ours !
Something is not right here, and it smells like a double standard. If you can get fined for emotional pain then many people out there would be wealthy and many out there would having to pay. Just consider with all the male bashing for example and other malices that go on everyday and innocent people and groups and how discriminations are ramped and prejudice and so forth. What is not right for one, must not be right for the other.
I mean in context, something like a rejection (depending how much hurt and emotional pain it causes a person) can potentially be a reason for a fine.
It IS an actionable tort here in the states to intentionally, and with callous disregard, inflict emotional pain on someone else.
It is an actionable tort when coupled with another tort usually though. IIED isn't usually actionable all on its own. At least that is what my Torts professor is teaching me.
Both women are seeking unspecified money damages for infliction of severe emotional distress "outside the boundaries of human decency and social norms."

A jury of online dating peers would no doubt find his behavior reprehensible (and generate 40+ pages of redundant and poorly-written opinions to express such), but would have to admit that it's the norm. Case dismissed!
good for her but sadly it part of American culture to lie starting at a very young age most commonly to ask kids to answer the phone and tell then that your not home and later there parents are flabbergasted with who taught there kids to lie
