I don't know where you get your figures from, but WoW just passed 5 Million subscribers.

I am assuming you are refering to me. As I said, those were what I accounted for. I didn't even think of checking Blizzard's website, lol..

Not so much here. But there are a few games that are nearly impossible to find anymore. Terranigma being one of them. I haven't used an emulator in ages, though.

the only mmorpgs I play are the ones that are straight from korea, untranslated, since they don't lose their edge and it's always got that sense of confusion to it. but in the end mmorpgs are all about how to kill things faster and better as you gain the exp. I try to stay away from the addiction

I stick to FPS games, keeps my hand eye coordination in tact.

My favorite game of all time is Final Fight, the arcade game. You can emulate it on a 233 MHz computer with 64 megs of ram (or less if you don't mind the aspect ratio being wrong). In this game you run around and beat on people until they lay down and flash on and off and disappear. Real people don't do that, you have to hide the bodies (j/k). Classic.

Another game I like is Diablo 2 Lords of Destruction, which can play on a 233 MHz computer with 64 megs of ram also, though you need a decent video card (around 8 megs) or it looks choppy.

There are tons of fun games virtually forgotten about that play in DOS that are loads of fun, like Heretic and Hexxen. You can play those on a Pentium 120 with 48 megs of ram!

I'm such a gamer junkie lol. when I ain't online or at school I'm playing on My PC, Xbox or PS2. I'm currently working on FEAR for the PC and Quake 4 for the PC. I enjoy FPS, RPGs, MMORPGs, and strategy games that make sense to me lol.

ZIM, love the name man....GIR is the ****!!!

I figured I'de find some game talk in this catagory. I guess I'll take the time to comment on a couple of things. There was a lot of talk early in the thread regarding movie and game becoming hand in hand. That's the current problem with the gaming industry. Too many developers are ripping their stories from movies. Movies are made to entertain for 2-3 hrs. A game (to be a good one for me) needs to entertain for 20+ hrs. How do you take a story that was made to have people sit and watch for only 2 hrs and turn it into an immersive and interactive world? Developers need to discover the wonder of books...this is a great resource that has not yet been tapped. Sure a few have tried it, but not many. Games are just getting worse now adays because of this and the rise of the console. The PC game industry is slipping not because people don't want to play on their PC anymore, but because every year a higher and higher percentage of PC games are ports of a game that was designed to be played on a console. Games are also getting to the point of where they are being sold on looks alone, and nothing more. Kinda makes me sad. =(

And now to the guy that has NFS: MW as one of his current favs. That game is complete and utter crap. It has a terrible story, terrible driving physics, terrible acting and characters, a dead city, terrible AI, and poor track designs that feel nothing like city driving. I can go on and on but I won't....you have no idea how bad that game makes me feel.

later!

I play allot of halo 2 online and yes children are annoying but my clan is made up of adults and a few teens but we do not allow annoying children into the clan. If your looking for adults to play with check out the Minion Order we are always looking for cool new people to play with and we have a good diversity of ages.

I still prefer most of my old games to the online games they have today. I have emulators for a variety of systems and my favorite game of all time is probably G-Police for the PC (too bad Psygnosis went belly-up).

I think I'm pretty much cannon-fodder for everyone else whenever I do play Starcraft or Halo online.

I had a stack of psygnosis games for my C64. They made some good stuff.

I'm right there with you. The only online game I ever got "good" at was the original Tribes. Something about jumpjets and open terrain just appealed to me greatly and I would often terrorize the other team by dominating the inside of their base. I could never get that good at any other game though. Usually I am just meat for the grinder.

I am good at learning how to beat the computer though. I think mostly because I can predict and counter the usual strategies that a computer might use.

I've never played Tribes. Another strategy game? Then again, I usually avoid RTS games - the original Command and Conquer bored me to death (partly because I sucked at it so badly). Dune 2000 was the first one I actually played more than once and Starcraft is the first one I really, really liked.

Personally I'm a sucker for racing games and I just enjoy the thrill of blowing s**t up in flying/shooting games. I really need to get Rogue Squadron for N64 again...that was too much fun.

The only thing G-Police was missing was a really hard level with tons of dogfighting. You could do it forever on the final level, but the AIs simply weren't difficult enough to make it enjoyable for very long. The ground attack levels were always the most difficult and annoying.

Tribes was a fast paced first person shooter. Also the only one I ever really liked.

The things that made it unique at the time were
1. everyone had jump jets and could practically fly for short distances.
2. There was more than one body type. Before mods there was light, medium, and heavy.
3. The game areas were large and in the open. You could actually snipe from some trees in the distance. You had to actually cross a large expansive battlefield to get to your enemy's base. You could use strategies that required open spaces rather than slightly largish rooms and corridors.
4. You picked up your favorite inventory loadout at inventory stations and could change your loadout at any time you were at one. You did not have to hunt the map for your favorite overpowered gun to vaporize your opponents with before they got to it.
5. Every gun had a purpose. Every gun had a specialty. Sure I had my favorites but there were times when a different gun would suit my purposes better.
6. vehicles. You had scout jets, light personell carriers, and heavy personell carriers.
7. CTF. Yes there were CTF FPSs before this, but CTF was never the focus. It was always some other game option you could choose to play instead of deathmatch but nobody ever did.
8. Bases. Each side had a base. In the base there were generators, inventory stations, ammo depots, turrets, and radar dishes. All of these things could be blown up and/or repaired.
9. There were more jobs than offense and defense. There were Flag defense, engineering, sniping, flag cap, and collateral (my specialty).

Wow, I really hadn't realized how much it did for FPSs but now that I look back at it... wow.

I used to play video games when I was younger, but I grew out of them, lost the time, got into the "I'm not getting anything out of it", I grew up. But then I really lost interest when I bought Vice City and my parents pitched a b!tch about the drugs and I said "ya know video games had drug related issues in them since the beginning, I mean, come on, Mario eating a mushroom to get high...I mean tall...to grow...and then he ate a flower to get magical powers, I mean come on, an idiot could see it. Are you mental? HELLO???"

Just recently, my friend invited me to some computer club and there had to of been 150 computers in this building, and all you did, was play games against each other, so I figured, Hell, why not, he invited me, he's paying, I'll give the child inside me a fling for old times sake,

Holy Christ.....some of those kids that do that, OMG...they need to be put on ridilin or something, you have kids...little kids 7-11, screaming "YOU MOTHER ****** ASS**** **** SUCKER....YOU KILLED ME!!!!" and I’m sitting there, looking at them, saying to them in a nice old small kids way, it's okay calm down, "NO IT'S NOT OKAY....**** YOU"...I wasn't a kid that long ago, I just grew out of video games....3 or 4 years ago. It's amazing.

It's crazy

Meh, stupid obsessive teenage gamers. They suck. By that I mean as people, usually I would never be able to beat them at a game, but I would never ever want to be friends with one.

Video games are my replacement for movies and TV for the most part. They provide stories and entertainment to help me get away from it all and enjoy myself for a while.

Ecstatica.

I'd like to take some time to talk about a great program for emulating old dos games in windows XP, many of you may have heard of it: Dosbox.

However, recently it has been greatly improved. By hitting ctrl F12 you can even speed up the CPU of the emulated DOS computer enabling games like Duke Nukem 3D to run at the correct speed. If you use the command line function you can also get sound in these games as well. I have been able to play the following games perfectly in Dosbox:

Duke Nukem 3D
Doom
Blood
Descent
Descent 2
Hexen
Hex: Role Playing Game
Heretic
Blakestone
Shadow Warrior
Wolfenstien 3D
Wolfenstien Spear of Destiny
The Black Cauldron
The Eagles Nest
Quake

These games are great fun and can be found on the net if you know where to look.

I have an Xbox, I even have Xbox Live. I never use it. The last games I have played are Halo2 and King Kong. I have no idea if any of this has anything to do with the OP because I don't understand gaming. Have lovely thoughts.

I love FPS's, but I'm a console gamer and I don't use my PC for gaming which is why I'm very excited about the Nintendo revolution and their free style controller that detects motion.

Nintendo revolution = FPS bliss.

The Nintendo Revolutions is also supposed to be backward compatible via emulation with the Nintendo, the Nintendo 64, the SNES, the Game Cube, and rumors that it will be compatible with the Genesis as well. Nintendo will make the roms for all these systems available in a special format on the internet.

Correct, but last I heard it was only going to be games developed by Nintendo, I hope other companies are allowed to emulate their games with the system. (Again, last I heard, haven't read anything in a while)

I love the Revolution controller! It's so ingenious! The "boomerang" look is innovative and knowing Nintendo, will be comfortable and easy to play with. Leave it to Nintedo to try something new and innovative and watch the other companies try to copy the design. lol

As for the previous poster that mentioned how vulgar the language kids use playing games. It is really pathetic, I agree. When I was in in my game design courses at school, our first class was video game testing (lol) and there were a handful of people that would scream bloody murder and threaten the people that beat them. Quite sad, some of them were in their twenties. People need to stop taking games so seriously, or at least get outside and interact with real people on occasion. One guy was white as snow because he never got outside and got a tan. Ugh, sorry, but people like that give gamers a bad name. Most of us just play for fun or (in some online games) to communicate with their peers about whatnot. I remember playing Socom: U.S. Navy SEALs until the wee hours of the morning just talking to people. Always had a blast.
