First Person Shooters
hmmm.....okay. not sure what that means....I have an Idea, being a film major, first person is being in the eyes of the person taking action, so, you would be the one taking action, but, isn't that the point of videogames.....wouldn't they just call them shooters....because it is YOU who is playing them.....right???

There is a 3rd person, 2nd peron and 1st person camera views that are integrated into a game. 2nd person would be like seeing everything from behind the shoulder of the character and 3rd person would be playing the character where you can see the whole character and everything around him.

The Nintendo Revolutions is also supposed to be backward compatible via emulation with the Nintendo, the Nintendo 64, the SNES, the Game Cube, and rumors that it will be compatible with the Genesis as well. Nintendo will make the roms for all these systems available in a special format on the internet.
3rd party games for the nes, snes and N64 will also be include. There is also talk that Sega will allow genesis games to be put on the service as well. The revolution will be able to take GC disks, so no emulation is needed.
Nintendo has also talked about giving the older games a graphical upgrade and adding in online play to games like Golden eye, PDZ and other games that would work online.

I really hope they don't do that. What makes the older games classic is often difficult for newer programmers to grasp. For instance Sega did a version of Golden Axe and Space Harrier for the PS2 that was supposedly "updated" for modern times and this game was terrible. It would have been better if they had ported the Arcade Games.
The genesis version of these games was not identical to the Arcade as some people thought. For instance the Arcade version of Golden Axe was several megabytes had 256 colors, at least 20 or so frames of animation for the characters, while the Genesis version was only 4 megabits (half a megabyte) had 64 colors, maybe 5 frames of animation for the enemies and maybe 8 for the playable characters. There were also many animations missing from the Genesis version, like characters turning to stone, moving eyes on background characters, etc.
so no emulation is needed Not for the game cube, but for the other stuff that is how its going to work.

The might just give a graphical upgrade which would not effect gameplay at all. It would still be the exact same game, but just slightly better looking. Who knows what those weird japanese are coming up with.

Alot of new games.. but totell the truth.nothing amazingly differant.
Well since Xmas we had the new Xbox. as a PC gamer ( Superior machine) I have to say...The 360. IS a true game machine/fun box I feel real sorry for the new Sony. Waste of anyones money since Microsoft will have a slurry of add ons when sony releases its new junk box. Nintendoo and whoever is left are still for kidsmaking "fun" but limited games.
PC still holding the Hardware title belt. If your computer is within 3 years old. Id suggest investing 90 buks in a updated video card. yu can dump your 64 meg crds for a 256 card now for cheap.. making your PC gameing much more enjoyable. If you got a few bucks .. dump your cirrant mother board and Processor to get 64 bit processor and a mother board that suports PCI Xspres. (64 bit and pci exspress are new standrds if you havent heard) Not just in gameing people but in computer usage in genral.
My fav games are of a short list. Final fantasy onlineis still at my top of favorites in MMORPG section.( 8 out of 10) monthly fee 12 buks
I am playing world of warcraft (give it a 4 out of 10)--monthly fee 12 buks) Guild wars ( a one time cost of 45 buks... 6 out of 10)
I have tried any otehr you can think of but they do not make a listing. Raceing, NFS newest release .. 9 of 10. no other race game captures the essence of speed. PC+steering wheel and pedals= True fun.
F.E.A.R GREAT game, 9 of 10) Best movie i ever played ( NO not a movie release game!)
Most disgracefull release of a movie ever..... King Kong. To many reasons to list . Suffice it to say .. MIGHT of been a great movie.. Horrable game coding! relying on a movie to sell a game is total ass. ok I gotta go rant on a diff forum about First person shooter MODs.
.. foot note. PC gamers get WAY moreout of a game than ANY console can offer for the sole fact almost every game gets a public release called a MOD (modification of code) to offer palyers a differant veresioon of the game or differant play options entirly makeing it a differant game based on a far off theme. If you have Unreal tournament (any verrsion check online (do search ) Unreal tournament Modifications. You can download and install exspansions of unreal that you never even dreamed of. Modifications pave the way for new release and new ideas for games. If you do have unreal tournament 2004 please check out frag-ops.com A FREE modification of hte game download it install it and you have expanded the usabiltiy of Unreal by 10k. Other MODs to mention are Red Orchestra Strike Force. Boht are free downloads working off the Unreal engine.
I see some of you have alot of ideas about game, for accurate information on any game or info on indistry, just email it, Id be happy to add my 2 cnets lol.
Gawd, I still recomend Fianl fantasy for any adult looking for a game for themselves and their children to play, I just went on an adventure with a family of 7 playing form the same house on various PCs and sony systems and guided them thru Raugmount passage to collect snow essance for a quest. Was quite fun and it was neat to see an entire family out fighitng monsters having a good time.
.. huff huff.. pant.. I do notice a few typos in this .. but typed under a miunte while posting on other sites makes me late for work lol.. sorry bout typos Ill log back later and EDIT FIX lol... Lates !

Other than that... I didnt see COUNTER-STRIKE SOURCE come up... that is THE game of the internet... has been #1 for like 8 years now, ofcourse Im talking about the first CS as well.
I really enjoyed Farcry, the graphics were the best ones Ive seen. Lately I have been jamming to www.liveforspeed.net very cool racing sim.
And please do not compare console games to PC games... for the love that is all holy. Console games are for kids

I can really dig a good console game every now and then. If I never played consoles as an adult, I would never have enjoyed Disgaea, and that I would not want to trade. ;-)

| Video games. Oh you play them too. Posted: 3/18/2006 1:56:49 AM | Couldn't help but read this thread as it developes I too use games as a substitute for movies and T.V. and have been playing them since I was a kid. You're right games these days do privide stories and enterainment on par with T.V. and movies I might add. Here's a few of my fav's on no particular order.
Gaxigan, Missle Command, Super Mario Bros, Wild Gunman, Street Fighter 2,Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 More recently Starcraft,Diablo,Jedi Knight, and Doom.
Also liked Neverwinter Nights, have been playing Fate a lot the last little while as well.

| Video games. Oh you play them too. Posted: 3/18/2006 5:13:03 AM | I actualy work on arcade games for a living. And i don't just deal wih any particular era of arcade games, i'll work on jus about anything because a lot of the same basic pricipals are the same...and naturally if the game board on newer games blows up..REPLACEMENT.
But..anyway...i'm not a addicted gamer, i'll go for months without a serious gaming frenzy. The last time i had one was when i bought my PSP and played Liberty City Stores nonstop for 3 months. Did i cheat? you bet your ass i did. I even had a gamesave hack for the game that put a lot of additional cheats onto a menu for easy access. Now i can make my PCJ6000 fly around Liberty City.
As far as PC games go..I try to avoid them. The PC gaming arena is getting too overcrowded and the games are becoming far more complex..leaving people with older systems unable to play them. Personally i don't see where any gaming should be done on a PC seeing as the expierence would vary greatly from PC to PC...

Looked at wow, but you cant or could not get free trial, heard it gets a bit tedious at lvl 60 or so...
|
| In Reply To #1 Posted: 3/19/2006 8:36:29 AM | *ALL* MMORPGS start out tedious or become very tedious to begin with.
My friends gave me their EQII trial when they decided to try to get me into it, and the first few hours i played, i quit...too tedious..too many things you have to do to get to this level or that level...bah....
besides...people get too addicted to those things anyway.

| In Reply To #1 Posted: 3/20/2006 2:38:37 PM | I'm a big fan of late the late 80's / early 90's era of arcade games and consoles. I especially liked the Neo Geo and the PC Engine.
I prefer artistically rendered sprites and backgrounds to sprites and backgrounds that are computer generated from polygons. The really good polygon style graphics I can tolerate, but I still prefer the old sprites based on hand drawn images. I think it is sad that people think that just because graphics are based on two-dimensional images, the games must somehow be inferior. I hope they don't ever burn the Mona Lisa because it isn't rendered in 3D. Diablo 2 is a game with rendered sprites and though the backgrounds are randomly generated, they are based on rendered textures and objects.
My personal favorites in the arcade were the Capcom games based on the CPS and CPS2 architecture. Whoever did the art for those games did an excellent job, beautiful graphics. And the games also controlled very well. Next were the SNK Neo Geo games. SNK actually was sued by Capcom several times for copyright infringement of fighting games. Capcom never won though.
Next to that I have found that I like a lot of the first person perspective shooters like Heretic and Hexen, which were far to expensive for me to play when they were actually new games. Now I can get them for free and any Pentium 233 with 64 megs of ram can play them. But back in the days of my 486 DX120 (overdrive) with 16 megs of ram and 256 colors, I could only look at the back of the boxes and imagine.

| In Reply To #1 Posted: 3/21/2006 4:46:43 AM | | im a hug mmorpg fan. but i do agree they get to tedious even more so in eq and eq2 there is way to much you have to do. to many talents not enough exp to level. i played eq a while back and quit about 3 days after playing straight and only being level 20 i was like and ther eis another 230 levels to go liek this to hell with that. | |

| In Reply To #1 Posted: 3/23/2006 1:50:01 PM | Does anybody else on here (aside from myself) even know or care about the Capcom Plays System and Capcom Play System 2 arcade games? (Final Fight, Streetfighter 2, Ghouls'N'Ghosts, Forgotten Worlds, etc).
They recently came out with game for the PS2 that includes these but as I don't have a PS2 (yet) I don't know if they destroyed the quality of them. They often get the screen aspect ratios wrong (distorting the graphics) and remove the scanlines (causing the sprites and background to appear chunky and pixallated).

| Video games. Oh you play them too. Posted: 3/27/2006 12:50:40 PM | Don't remember which it was turned me off from online gaming. I think it was Ultima online. Never played one since.
Final Fantasy 1-> 7 & 9 HATED 8 Might and Magic 4 -> 7 Dragon Warrior 3 -> 7
There are a lot of others too but those are my fave's.
Still have my Nesticle ZSnes SNES 9x emulators and almost all the NES and SNES RPG roms.
Did have a Playstation emulator too but it's lost somewhere.
I'm 57 and have been playing console RPG's since shortly after Final Fantasy 1 came out.

| Video games. Oh you play them too. Posted: 3/27/2006 5:19:13 PM | | yeah i think they have gone and ruined the whole orriginal games when they brought them out for the new systems. pacman good game but now they have ruined it by making so many spin offs of it galga another good one shame they do these to vintage games. it ruins the complete play value of them. | |
|
| Video games. Oh you play them too. Posted: 4/7/2006 9:02:46 PM | Mmm.. I'm a closet PS2 fan. Enjoy RPG's and yelling "bugger it" at the screen while I hop up and down after being defeated by a boss.
Yes, I enjoy my geek side. ;-)

| Video games. Oh you play them too. Posted: 4/9/2006 3:06:40 AM | Another PS2 fan here!!
Has anybody played this new Godfather game on the PS2 and if so did you like it or was it a bit of a let down? Im thinking about buying it but at £40 its a lot of money if your not sure!
