Amended profile pic guidelines:
Make sure the image isn't too big or it won't upload.
Cartoons, celebrity and Joke pictures are not allowed.
Make sure the image is in JPG, BMP or GIF format.
You can share these private pictures with other members when sending them a message.
More help for Add / Change / Delete Images Allow others to rate your image
ALL pictures MUST contain you in it with a visible head shot at minimum
The pic privilege has a purpose, this is a DATING SITE, it isn't a:
Pet show
Landscape gallery
Flower shop
Art Gallery
Funny pic site
Real estate site
Car show
Etc.
Those who want to keep their pic privs, realize that this is a dating site, non-nude pics with the user's face visable, ie:
"of YOU" With your pet = OK
"of YOU" Next to the waterfall = OK
"of YOU" In front of your garden = OK
"of YOU" Next to a painting = OK
"of YOU" With a clown = OK
"of YOU" In front of your house = OK
"of YOU" In or next to your car = OK
"of YOU" With your kids = OK
Etc. - inclusive of YOU = OK
Be IN your picture
The list of what the pic privilege ISN'T for, is infinite, there is an expectation that the site's users realize that this is a dating site.
Those who continually upload invalid images lose the upload privilege. | |

Posted: 1/25/2007 11:53:45 PM | I see some pics uploaded that don't have a head shot. Some women just have pics of their cleavage, a tongue or their behind. Others have pics. I uploaded an image, not a picture and it got deleted. What gives??? Why aren't the rules evenly applied?
Catch as catch can (sheer numbers), the top 600 abusers of the pic privilege just lost their upload privilege. Read the post above to avoid ending up like them. | |

I just love this new policy Markus aka Administration.
To actually see people on a dating site is truly an amazing day. Or picture of people who like to post in the Forums like I do.
Plenty of Fish or for some Plenty of Friends keeps getting better and better.
Keep up the great work and best of luck to everyone in their endeavours.
I look forward to casting my vote in the RATE NEW IMAGES section of Plenty of Fish.

Posted: 2/3/2007 8:45:20 AM | I deleted all my photos this afternoon and I was going to replace them with new ones...My photo page doesn't even have a browse button to upload photos now.....Is this site having problems?
Same question but with a twist. I was contacted by a Mod that my fish/nature pics should be taken off, which I did. Contacted him and told him I did so, and since then nothing but HEAD shots as per POF rules, yet I now cannot upload any new pics. Any particular reason???? I can understand if I had turned around and snubbed the request by the Mod. but I did exactley as he requested with no rude or snide remarks concerning his request. Just wondering, because I don't even know how to contact him about my question, if even possible. Thanks in advance.
This is automated, moderators do not have any more access to the profile
server than any other user - if your uploads get rejected (votes) often enough
(by forum users), your profile is likely flagged automatically. | |

No, the "rate new pics" feature is by pics only, pics are vetted outside any context
of identifying the profile user, pics are vetted one at a time - "anonymously",
there is no "something against you" possible, see for yourself:

The e-mail from my Mod was over 3 weeks ago, and I complied within a hour of being informed of my mistake of the nature/fishy pics. I don't believe this "rate new pics" has been going on that long. Any idea??? Or is this just a glich??? Thanks again.
I also see that on your new "rate new pics" there are full frontal face pics up for review. Can I ask what stops people from deleting or pushing the delete button on these pics,,,,again for no obvious reason other than that they can??????
"Rate new pics" is not a new feature, it's been around for over a year, so if youve uploaded iffy pics, you've uploaded iffy pics. I'm pretty sure that helping eith the problem by participating on the "rate new pics" feature shortens the time that it takes for the browse button to come back. | |

Posted: 2/3/2007 3:33:05 PM | I removed my pictures and attempted to replace them...and no browser button. Yes I did have some of my daughter's art as I thought that four of me were more than enough. No one has contacted me about any problem. Have I lost my upload privileges? ... Permanently? If I have, it would seem logical that I simply close my profile and change my name to Rob 301 or something with a new profile. Is this okay or will I be slapped down with that approach ? I think pictures are essential and see no point in continuing without. Bewildered.

| UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD PHOTOS
Posted: 2/3/2007 11:32:11 PM | Have followed your instructions step by step, have tried to download from my Documents, as well as from a 3 1/2 floppy (which is JPEG I believe) and each and everytime it comes up "Error we could not determine what kind of image you want to upload. Image type=application/octet-stream"
Have never had this problem before on soulmate, match.com
Can you please tell me why this keeps happening?
Is there some way I can email you the photos and have you download them for me?

I'll ask this one again I guess in case it was missed in my previous post. I was wondering if anyone sees the failure in this part of the system???? It seems anyone can push the "delete" button on any photo for no reason at all other than they can. And if that is the case, then would this be the reason the "browse" button isn't availible to some of us????? I know a lot of females do NOT use " the rate pic" feature because of some the bitter women out there who were rating "1's" and "2's" on other women's pics. I know it's tough for the Mods and Big Fish to try and control the pic problem, but leaving it up to other's on here with no accountability or reasons (that can be checked) leaves the door open for a lot of the uploading features to be cancelled for no real reason. Am I understanding the "rate new pics" feature wrong????
Yes, this is the "Rate New/Any Pics" it's isn't the picture rating feature, it's for specifically "vetting" picsyou have to be logged into your inbox to see that link, it's on the left side of the main pic rating "fluff feature". Pics come up randomly, no link to profile, no way to target any one user, just invalid pics - nudity, cartoons, animals, landscapes, vehicles, web pics, copyright (and "looks like a" copyright) images - all images without "at least" inclusive of a the face/head of a user are "supposed" to be rejected. Upload, or attempt to upload invalid pics enough times = flagged. | |

As one of the evil 600, I have been doing penance for the past four hours. Approve/Delete photos. Man! is that a mind numbing job. But I think I’ve figured out some things. The first bunch of photos are simply a test of your honor. I.E. if you slash and burn, your input is deleted. After that you are randomly tested to see if you are keeping the faith. There will be several levels of approving. If you reject a photo it goes under someone else’s microscope. If they reject it, then it’s gone. If they differ with you, it probably is sent to a moderator. Most likely all nude shots are sent to moderators (being the sick puppies that they are…uh…lol). This process should result in a fair assessment of all photos. I don’t believe that the moderators are allowed to comment on the behind the scene workings.
No, it's not that, we have the same access to the vetting feature as you do, plus, mods have the same access to profiles as you do, that's why we're called "forum" moderators, we only have tools for the forums. As to how the pic privilege works, I'm only guessing. The fact is, the sheer numbers of uploads make it an on-going uphill battle for Admin. The more users who properly help with the process, the more likely it is someday that the site can have a "search only users with pics" feature, something most have wanted for years.
On a different note I have deleted tons of roses (all by the men) I think this is a rather feeble attempt on the part of men to circumvent their “two rose” problem by having a whole bouquet that they can give out to all the ladies. Personally I think that they are just insulting the intelligence of the ladies.

I agree, there are always going to be a few who try to put one over on the system, this is why there has to be systems like this set up in the first place, the few ruining things for the many
And I forgot... I'm wondering what you might mean by minimum of a head shot. There are a whole lot that fall on the borderline of visibility (unlike my own). I.e. ...the head is the size of a penny on a platter...no features are visible???? Maybe this could be further clarified!

When I vette pics I approve all pics where the user makes an effort to abide by the guidelines, if the person is tiny against a backdrop of mountains, etc I pass it. As long as an effort is made I'm good with it. Still, the amount of people who upload nonsense pics is unbelieveable.

How about increasing the awareness of POFer’s responsibility to report bad photos .Let’s say all photos are approved initially without review. Make a simple procedure with two buttons. The first regarding nudity sends the photo direct to the moderator for review. This would also automatically make the offending photo invisible. The second button would send the photo for anonymous peer review without making the photo invisible (i.e. the current review setup). As most photos are legit, this would greatly cut the work load. I realize that for the next while until folks get used to and accept the “faces only photos” change that has come into effect your work load has increased. By installing the two button process you would solve the current problem of all the existing “scenic picture profiles” . We could simply send questionable photos in for review. No one would have the ability to use this as a weapon as a third neutral party would be doing the judging. If a POFer had a hate on for someone and inappropriately called a photo a nude shot then they would be punished by the moderator….
A) Sheer #s make your ideas unworkable, B) no user can be targetted, the vetting system is pic only, no profile involved.

So what? there are many users who wouldn't consider a no pic profile anyway, that's the point.

Posted: 2/5/2007 5:31:31 PM | So I am assuming from the non answer to my actual question that it is a fact that anyone can use the "rate new/any pics" feature and press the DELETE button just because they can. Therefore, users of this site that are even following ALL of the image rules can still have there "uploading" feature taken away, because of the lack of accountability or reasoning that is NOT on the "rate new/any pics" feature.
Example: I just viewed a "doggy pic" and then pressed "delete". After that,,,,NOTHING. No buttons to press for reason for deletion, why you think it should be deleted, etc etc. Just trying to point out the seemingly obvious failure of this feature of the site, cause it sure seems that A LOT of people are losing their "uploading" feature for no apparant reason.
A single rejection of a single picture does not flag a profile, a single rejection probably doesn't event delete a pic, oversight is built in by requiring consensus. There has to be a pattern on the database, which only one guy has access to, the site owner.
I'm still on the search for the reason that my "uploading" feature just magically disappeared WEEKS after I had taken my rule breaking pics off. Thanks in advance, if anyone has any insight.
"my rule breaking pics off" probably had something to do with it, and the fact that sheer numbers of upwards of 30,000 uploads a day make "real-time" enforcement impossible. | |

Posted: 2/6/2007 3:03:56 PM | I deleted my own photo. It was not revoked. After I deleted the photo the option to upload a new one was not there (BROWSE BUTTON). I emailed you about it and got no reply. I waited and waited a few days and still nothing. So I logged back into my account to see if the photo section "unlocked" and nothing. I deleted another photo in hopes that maybe it would do something, like add the Browse button, to no avail.
PLEASE FIX IT! IT'S NOT RIGHT THAT I SEE NAKED PEOPLE ON HERE ALL THE TIME WITH NO PROBLEM AND THOSE WHO ABIDE MY THE RULES ARE GETTING CRAPPED. You know if this site is getting a bit overwhelming for you MR. ADMIN, just get your friends to help you out. For some reason a site that was perfectly fine is getting really, really messed up with all these "new" rules. Sort of becoming like that idiotic site singlesnet.com.

After doing penance: about four hours of photo approving/rejecting duty, my privileges were returned(Browser Button). You may very well fall into the same criminal group as myself. HEADS IN ALL PHOTOS

After all what is fair is fair ... not that I would go down to their levels, egh! Gross! But honestly I don't know how it is that if a face is visible and their is no nudity in the photo people get grouped up with such imbasils. It's just not right, especially after referring your site to other people as well.
Anyhoo so how do I go about that Rob?

Posted: 2/10/2007 5:05:58 PM | I have a Pentax Optio S4 digital camera. The software that comes with the camera and installed on my Pentium (Windows 98 version) labels each digital image "impg". This does not conform with any of the labels you list. I have tried to load an image several times and the bar at the bottom of the screen show the digits are being transmitted. However, when the bar is completely blue, the internet connection shows transmission continues to occur but nothing seems to have been completed.
I notice you cite a 24 hour delay prior to putting up photos so you can check for nudity, etc.
The question I have is did you receive my images?
Is their non appearance the result of your 24 hour delay or my transmission being unsuccessful due to the incorrect label?
What do you recommend?
