| What do you miss most about being a kid?

Stranger danger - although when we were young our parents told us never to talk to strangers, etc - it sure isn't what it is today. Kids dont even have to talk to them - could be walking down the streets with their friends and within a blink of an eye are gone.
I think although we had dangers as kids, we had a lot more innocence, the world sure isn't as cruel as it is now. I remember sitting down with my nieces when they were 3 and talking to them about the sick people that are out there (its on the news everyday - and they would start to ask questions). When they are sick enough to steal children from school yards and play grounds - one has no choice now.
But then again - when we were young - our laws (in canada) were more strict and these sickos were gone for a lot longer than they are now - and there are a lot more of them today as well...
So maybe I miss the laws we had when we were young also. It wasn't a safe world for us kids, but it was more than it is today.
Sorry to bring everyone down on here!

| What do you miss most about being a kid?
Posted: 10/1/2005 7:21:54 PM | The first day of the new school year most kids hated it I always looked forward to a fresh start.
Playing spin the bottle, how nerve racking was that at 13, AHHHHHHHHHgh!!!!I had to kiss Steven Croucher once, really not a good thing, LOL.....!!!! Life was so simple then now there are all the head games, Lets just duck in the next closet !!!!

1. Having no fear. Now, if snowboarding, biking, playing soccer I have to remember that if I snap a wrist or break a bone, that means off work!
2. Having my Mom hold my head while throwing up! LOL
3. Having boundless energy - where you gobble down breakfast and don't surface till you hear Dads' whistle (LOL>......that was the get your ass home signal in my neighbourhood!)
4. Miss having a miriad of things that would keep me occupied!
5. Miss having the Sundays with my Dad. Seems that now that we are "old" we don't communicate in the same ways | |

every noise was interesting(instead of concerning),
coffee was a household perfume(not an attitude adjustment),
jr. burgers were huge(paaaaahahahaha, snort hahaha),
it was so much easier to get an adrenolin rush(w/o your life actually being threatened),
no one had to carry around devices to comunicate(uuuugh, someone steal my cell, please)
the cat always listened to my rantings(yeah...ok, he still sorta does)
it was ok to punch the crap out of your bestfriend to settle your arguments(ok, I don't miss THAT part so much)
you burned candles when the electricity went out(now we use them to keep our calm ambience)
I was the only one in the forest(cause it just felt that big)

My grandfather and I would go in the barn with an old blanket we would fall asleep listening to the sound the rain made on the tin roof... He had unbelievable patience with me... I had a very hard time to sleep... It was the best rest... I slept so so well then...

Getting bored in the lazy hazy dog-days of summer.
Playing hide'n seek till the streetlights came on and we had to go home.
And playing kissing tag to gross the boys out.

Posted: 1/12/2006 9:09:47 PM | I miss all the horses I used to take care of on weekends......but mostly my horse that was named Misty.....the fresh country air...dubble bubble gum..then hubba bubba gum.....mojo's,
my tonka toy's,barbies,hotrod dinky cars...
I know this sounds crazy..................but I miss the times on hot summer days chipping the salt blocks,,,for a piece of salt,,,before the horses and cows would get to it,,,
My dad playing his gutair at night in the dark on the porch..and teaching me how to play along...LOL
Lemonaid,,Koolaid,,,,,Dutch potateo chip's, going to summer camps and be a bad bad girl...LOL

Posted: 1/12/2006 9:16:53 PM | Speaking of hubba bubba - I miss the days when you could go to the corner store with a dollar, and get a pack of hubba bubba, bag of chips, a coke, and have some left over for mojos...
Then a year later - we were buying cigarettes for $1.85 (ya started young - bad - but my dad threatening my life made me quit lol)
I also miss having simple worries, not like today of bills, relationships, career, the world.
I miss crawling up into my daddys lap with a bag of old dutch chips, and pop, and watching hockey night in canada when I was 5.
Still watch it with him today when I can, but I miss being his little girl - even though he says I always will be - I still miss that 'sniff'
I miss my dad being the strongest man I ever knew. As time goes on, he is loosing his strength, and has been very ill. But as far as his heart, love for his family, and his convictions - he still is, and probly forever will be - the strongest man I know. | |

Posted: 1/12/2006 9:21:49 PM | My father was 6'3 230....I remember fearing and admiring him..........My dad taught me to laugh and learn and respect, my mom taught me to clean, cook and that if I was bad i'd have to face my dad...LOL..He was a gentle spirited giant of a man...
I remember trying a beer at age 8 I thought he would kill me....He just said hand me that wrench as I was sent out to the garage to talk to him about what I had done...He said beer is for stupid grown ups,,, and your not stupid...your my daughter...lol | |

Posted: 1/12/2006 9:28:39 PM | After dad scared me when he caught me smoking, I ran downstairs and closed myself in my room. when I came out he was standing at the bottom of the stairs and he grabbed me and hugged me - he said the reason he was so upset - he didn't want to loose me, he didn't want to see me get sick, he loved me and was concerned about me.
When you are a kid - you don't see things the way they really are, until you mature. I appreciate every day that I have with he and mom.
Sounds like you had a good dad too - they don't make them like that anymore. | |

he was a very firm but kind man,
no regrets-I had long since made peace with him...so there was nothing left unsaid.
he caught me smoking when I was 16, he could not smack me ..I was already 5' 10" then
(he used to call me the "resident bufallo') so he cut my allowance ..LOL | |

Posted: 1/12/2006 11:44:07 PM | I love watching Rugrats... I used to watch it with my son.. I still do the barefoot thing too, but you couldn't get me on a bike around here for anything~~~So, no bike riding in a long time, but as a teenager when I couldn't drive, I rode my bike everywhere.  | |
