Ireland it is then.

I have heard that it is beautiful. How could it not be. I think it also has the climate I am looking for. Another plus is that the Jew and the Scott in me are telling me to get a job at Guinness for the discount. Besides I prefer Irish whiskey over Scotch. I just never got used to the peat.

I'm not Catholic but my Irish side says he is ready to convert.

OT: I have worked in the past with mostly foreigners. Never had a problem with their work ethic.

I would like to add a comment or rather observation that I made whilst living on Mexico,...

That being I have noticed some Americans living in another country (in this case Mexico) acting as though they were the original citizens and the natural citizens in the country are in fact the foreigners,...

let me explain,...This one fellow was the owner of a vacation rental property,....he had a number of other companies, one being an all english on line Mexican news paper,...

for these ventures he hired many people,.... most of whom were in fact Mexican,...but he was rude,...and disrespectful and in meetings with other people in that city who were also American investters in the area,...this type of discrimination was well tolorated amongst their group......

As an employer,...I doubt that his behaviour would be tolorated back in the USA,...he would have been sl;apped with sexual harrasment,...and descrimination suits,...not to mention his employees back home would probably have quit, on top of suing him...but these people need their jobs (there is no unemployments or social assistance,...you don't work,...you don't eat, except for fish and coconuts)and in private discussions with them, (his employees) they felt it was what they had to endure to keep their jobs and feed their families,.....and many of them don't just have a spouse and kiddies to support,...since there is NO OLD AGE PENSION, many have their mums and dads to support too,..

Mexico does not have an agency that advocates any kind of human rights or descency for workers,...which is why this behaviour goes unchecked,...these things are slowly changing but too slow to see any difference so far,...

I wonder how many tourist know that the people who serve them hand and foot in these vacation areas are employed without the bennefit of a wage,....I don't mean a crappy wage like working for macDonalds I mean ZERO >>ZIP >>NADA,...they work exclusively for tips,...and in some cases if they are luckey enough to earn an actual wage it's so refrikindiculously low as to be almost insulting,...100 pasos a day (12 hr shift) 100 pasos is less than $10.US and to compare that to the local cost of living,...

City bus drivers are paid per person not per hour,...since it cost about 4 pasoes to ride.....and only 1 paso goes to the driver at the cost of living you do the math,...but even with this,...most mexicans are not salavating at the thought of moving to the USA,...i

100 pasos get's you a meal at macDonalds,...that's one meal,....
So the next time you head south of the border for fun in the sun,...remember this and,...
TIP WELL,....just FYI

Employers it seems do,...what they can get away with,...which in this particular case is even weirder considering this guy even married a local woman,...I can only imagine what kind of degradation she has to endure,....because in large mexicans are catholics,....very devout ones and although I don't know for sure,...I suspect the divorce rate in that country is no where near what it is in Canada and the USA,....

Now the interesting thing I found is that even with all of the difficulties,...most Mexicans would never consider living anywhere else and of the ones that would,...to my surprise they would in overwhelming numbers choose Canada over USA as to their choice, of where to move to,...the reason is according to them is Canadians do not treat immigrants from mexico in any other way they would anyone else,....and I can vouch for them that they are correct.

Here everybody is from somewhere else somewhaere in your own personal history,..for example all of Newfoundlanders originated from Ireland,...Nova Scotians - Scotland and so on.

good for you,...I know it will be much appreciated,....no matter how big or small,...

and perhaps when you get together with your friends there,...ask them,....
Chances are they won't bring it up to you because they consider that to be like talking outside the family about what goes on at home,..but if asked,...will tell you the truth

Hiya loves............seems to be a lot of Americans with Irish ancestors

I heard that there are more Irish in New York than in Ireland itself .

When I have been reading about the Twin Towers coming down....its quite amazing the number of Irish names coming up,particularly of the firemen and policemen.

Only natural..........only the best

Irish,
Stonewall Jackson was a Southern General during the AMerican Civil War who probably was our most brilliant field commander along with Robert E Lee, and Nathan Bedford Forest. He died of pneumonia after having his arm amputated after the battle of Chancellorsville (sp?) His division/ brigade was fondly called Jackson's foot cavalry due to their ability to march quickly long distances, and immediately engage in battle. Ironically, he was shot by accident by his own troops, and his division was never defeated on the field before he died. The fortunes of the South were never the same after his demise....He was extremely religious, and also a brillaint instructor at VMI (Virginia Military Institute) before the war.

Aacburbank....thanks love on Stonewall Jackson......................

I did read up on him...Thomas Jackson....but does anybody know where the STONEWALL came from?

You must be proud that he is a family ancestor.

I wonder if the ethnic makeup of the American....European origin population is known by country..............just a thought.

I find it amazing that Americans can say things like " I am one 32nd Cherokee....." or I am Scots,Irish and Gerrman......totally amazing

Irish,
Yes I'm very proud and my Mother is in "The United Daughters of the Confederacy".
The "Stonewall" came from the 1st battle of the Manasas (Bull Run), which was the first major engagement of the Civil War. When the Federal (Yankee to me) troops under McDowell were advancing, the SOuthern line intially wavered, and one Southern leader rallied his troops by looking behind him, and seeing Jackson standing steadfast with his regiment, yelled "See there men, there is Jackson standing like a STONEWALL with his Virginians"...hence the nickname. The Southerners rallied, and turned the battle into a route of the Union Army which retreated disorganized the 25 miles back to Washington.

Good point, Americans being a nation of immigrants are fascinated by their ancestory to the point of nasea sometimes. We are basically a nation of mutts, but most do refer to themselves of German or Irish or Scottish, etc descent, but just call themselves American. Of course if you are Black, they still like to be called African-American for some reason.

The orgins of good old American ingenuity came about due to hybrid vigor...or mixing of the different nationalities, which bore out the strongest and best traits. You know like big over small, smart over stupid, etc. I remember my grandfather telling stories about WW I, and how the Germans were actually scared of the big ole American farmboys, not to mention that most of them had been shooting rifles since they were 5 years old. He was 6' 2'', 220 lbs, and not that big compared to his peers, but to the Germans their sheer size and the fact that they could kill with a Springfield 1903 rifle @ 800 yards was scary to them. He said some of the Germans they captured actually believed that the AMericans ate their prisoners!!
He was 90th infantry division, and was wounded (mustard gas) and blind for 6 months until his eyes healed...then finished college, commisioned as an officer, and served again in WW II.
Can you imagine...going through both of those wars...geeze

Irish,
I believe the Navajo in New Mexico/ Arizona are the most numerous, but I may not be 100% correct. The Cherokee were very prevalent in the Southeast, and were more civilized (not a good word) as compared to some of the others and seemed to assimilate/ mix/ intermarry with the American / European settlers more readily. Many of them fought with the Americans against the Brits in the American Revolution also. They were also a very attractive people...hence the intermarrying.

Billy Mills, who won the GOld Medal in the 10,000 meters in the '64 Tokyo olympics was a Sioux. The greatest American athlete of all time, Jim THorpe, was a Native American, but I can't remember which tribe. He won Golds in the Decathlon, and modern Pentathlon in the '12 Stockholm Olympics, was a hall of fame NFL Football player, and played major league baseball also.

Jim Thorpe was a Native American from the Sac and Fox tribe.
Don't know how reliable the source is because I found it through Google on a personal geneology website.

http://www.dentongenealogy.org/thorpe.htm

I admire their customs and need to learn more.

I'd love to slap a stupid Mexican right now....forgive my rant, but my adrenaline is running & I suppose this is better than beating the hel out of them....yes, I get that this is what America is based on...I'm an American mutt myself....but enough is enough...we seriously need to get rid of the ignorant one's...the criminals...etc...

I could have many examples here....I could spend hours...lol...but for the moment, let's just talk about their driving.....I was almost in 3 wrecks this morning...all due to mexicans.....all in less than 10 minutes...

I was taking my son the 5 minutes up the road to his school....1st...a car comes flying up behind me on my street....passes me as I'm making a left turn....& flies through our neighborhood, doing at least 50....the speed limit in my neighborhood is 25mph....there were kids everywhere waiting for buses....I know it was the mexicans who just moved in 3 houses down...(the same 1's who have so far thrown water on my kittens, on my front porch....& killed a baby deer in their front yard & skinned it right there).....yes, we will be having a little discussion this afternoon...

then, while I'm still in my neighborhood....there is one of those huge I have a small penis trucks with a mexican driving...he sees me coming...he waits til I'm almost there...then he pulls out in front of me...

Then I get on the main road & this white mini-van swerves around me, cutting me off...she's making the same left I am & she takes off...turning in front of another car, barely missing him by inches....she flies up the road, doing 20miles over the limit...I catch up to her at the school...I knew she would get caught in that traffic...luck of luck...she turns into the same school I'm headed to....3 cars ahead of me...

I couldn't help myself...3 times in five minutes was just too much...I jump out of my car...yes, in my dam pajama pants...lol...I go up to her car in line & I'm talking as I come around to her window..."I can't believe you just risked your childs' life like that!"....I had no idea who was driving...but wasn't surprised at all to find a mexican woman...."You just cut me off & almost wrecked another driver...& we're not even late for school!".....she gives me that stupid cow look....I realise she doesn't even understand what I'm saying to her...."Stupid! You're not even worth talking to...I feel sorry for your child"...& off I go back to my car in complete amazement...

This woman couldn't even speak English...surely she can't read it either...yet she is allowed to operate a car? W.T.F.?

A few years ago a friend of mine was in a wreck...it was a mexicans fault...he couldn't speak English...he didn't have a drivers license...he was an illegal...the cops let him go & didn't do a thing!...said all they do was deport him, and it was too much trouble...my friend still has back problems he has to pay for himself...W.T.F.?

Forgive me for ranting, but just dam!....I don't care where someone is from or what the color of their skin is...I actually have several Mexican friends who are quite sweet & intelligent..my cousin married a mexican girl...they have 2 children...her whole family comes to our family events & they are wonderful, intelligent people...they are a part of our family now....
but I can't help but think if we allow you to live in our county, then you should be a positive contribution to society....don't come here & not learn our language..seriously, how stupid can you be?...don't come here & commit crimes....don't come here & get on the welfare that we pay taxes on to help our people...we don't want to pay your way...go back to your country & make it better...don't come here & make ours worse...

I think the usa boards more foreigners then any one. I thing we need to do what they did along time ago. They need to gather them up and weed them out if you sick , broken limbs, injurys of any kind, should be sent back if you don't have job here in 1 month you go home. You get no welfare or unemployment benefits for 5 yrs. No goverment loans for them either. let take care of our people first just like other contries do. I am so Tired of seeing foreigners come to the usa and take advantage of us If you don't speck english in 1 year you go home

Question..... Where will you send Americans that cannot seem to "speck English", or type it for that matter?
Should Canada and Mexico ship injured American tourists out on the next available flight without treatment?
Other posters seem to be convinced the majority of criminals are immigrants aswell. I'd love to seem some factual information backing up this claim that Americans aren't producing their own brutal and sick criminals.

Now ESL courses (English as a Second Language) should be part and parcel of immigration to any mainly Anglo country. To do otherwise is a disservice to current citizens and the new immigrants alike. Toughening up the school system wouldn't hurt any for current citizens either. Maybe then people will stop asking "if they can AXE you a question".

Ya, because there is already enough people in America who don't have the basic skills needed to get a job, like spelling and simple grammer, or "specking" english.

Lots and lots of assumptions in there.
Typical ignorant US citizen reaction.

At least you're alive to rant.

Better than the 10 people killed and 70 injured by an elderly AMERICAN driver. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/21/us/21sentence.html

Should we have a rant against the elderly too?

And then, of course, driving in the #1 killer of young people in the US. Should we rant against youth?

I wonder if the biggest problem with foreigners in the US isn't American attitudes to them. Doesn't that mean WE're the problem?

And just when did the European 'immigrants'/invaders cease to be foreigners - or is that the segment of the population the OP is talking about?

As you have become a citizen, would it be safe to assume that you came here legally?
