| What if they don't drink booze at all? Posted: 11/2/2009 8:42:30 PM | | I don't drink alcohol at all, but I have no problem with truly social drinkers (i.e., not getting drunk, but having a drink or two at a social gathering or at home or wine with the meal -- that sort of thing). Besides, I'm automatically a 'designated driver', so why would anyone object? | |

I am always a little confused by people who do not drink.

I don't drink either. I frown at people who drink to excess, but don't really care if they are dinner+wine, or hockey+beer type of person. They usually know their limit.
However being the automatic designated driver has it's downsides, that being that all your drinking friends and relatives can guilt you into giving them a ride or they'll drive themselves. That is annoying if they expect you to just sit there in the pub with them and do nothing. Likewise, if you have to drive everyone in the group home, having to get directions from someone who isn't sober can be frustrating.
I am always a little confused by people who do not drink.
1. Having family members or friends die from drinking and driving. 2. Having family members or friends drink excessively who get violent. 3. Religious or spiritual beliefs. 4. Knowing that alcohol is poison. 5. Don't like the taste of things that contain alcohol. 6. Previously consuming mislabeled foods that contain alcohol and getting sick.
For me, mainly 1 5 and 6.

I tend to think that because this society is so fixated on the use of it, these few stand a lesser chance of "hooking up".
Although the poster stated this in 2005, I'm wondering where he got the "fixation" thingy,,,,, or the conclusion that there is only a "few" out there that don't drink the nectar of the gods(okay MY gods),,,and that because they don't drink there chances of "hooking up" are less????? A lot of assumptions.
There are many reasons why some don't drink (thou I can only understand some of them ). Most of those reasons wouldn't become a reason not to go out with someone,,,thou personally, I won't have much to do with an alcoholic,,,reformed or not. I've been thru that train wreck enough times to know it's not for me. It can be actually quite scarey the way some personalities can change with just a sip of the red stuff,,,or whatever. Underlying problems are usually "part" of the problem and the booze just adds the fuel to the fire.
Me???? I'm a happy drunk. I think it's just my personality coming thru when I let my guard down......yeah,,,,that's it!!!! Everything in moderation,,,but in saying that,,,,,,,"win or lose,,,,,she's booze!!!!"

| What if they don't drink booze at all? Posted: 11/3/2009 6:07:49 PM | Well, I didn't drink for years, but it never stopped me from enjoying my friends, while they were enjoying themselves. There are always a few that overdo it, and aren't a pleasure to be around, but most are a hoot! However, I expect as Adults they will make their own arrangements. Sometimes things happen however, and as long as its not a habit, I would help out without complaining. ...the drive home I mean. Carloads of partiers? Pay a taxi driver! | |

Posted: 11/3/2009 8:11:28 PM | Unless someone's a big p!sshead or druggie i don't usually notice their habits, which i guess means they're not noticeable unless get in the way of something! me? i don't really NEED any extra stimulation, being quite cheerfully insane, but i love getting drunk and smoking pot and would probably be alot worse with alot more if i didn't love life so much...and hadn't already exhausted my capacity for suffering long ago... Let's see... here is a few reasons... I am sure there are several more. 1. Alcoholic family 2. Allergic to alcohol 3. Alcoholic themselves and now in AA 4. Religous reasons
Just because you enjoy it (and not abuse it) does not mean everyone else has to. I have been sober for 24 years and I still have a blast when I am out with friends. I always remember what I have done the night before and who I was with. Yes there have been blackouts and there are several months that I do not remember from years ago, that is not a good feeling. Enjoy your drinks if you want to, just don't let them make you a person you are not. And I'm sure you all know alcohol is a deppressant(sp). I will date a social drinker - once in a while drinker- but I will not date a drunk and I don't care if think you are a good drunk, I won't go out with you again. That's just me. Been through it before and I don't want to do it again.

It never stopped me from having fun or watching other people get so drunk and making a fool of themselves.
