Posted: 10/1/2005 7:06:34 AM | as far as ratings go, i think fake pics are fair. sometimes ill vote a 9 or 10 for a pic that i know is fake. but its the model in the picture im rating, not the person who made the profile.
but its b.s. that people use fake pics as a means of getting to know others and getting others attracted to them. however if you're really looking to meet people in real life it doesnt matter. someone can use all the fake pics they want, but if you actually meet them it makes no difference. unless they tape a fake pic to their face when you meet them | |

While were talking about fake pics, I hate old pics! If you are 30, I don't want to see your HS picture. If you are 55 I don't care what you looked like when you were 45. There's nothing more nerve wracking than meeting a guy that looks nothing like his picture. And you wondered why I screamed and ran, there's your answer.
I need to go buy me a webcam tomorrow!! I hate watching them but at least I can give and receive a preview. Maybe make some new pics of me. I saw hate cameras!! | |

I've seen a guy with a fake woman's pic and the sexual banter between him and unsuspecting men that is soo wrong. But what can u do. I have already seen Keanu Reeves and Densil Washington on here I sent them both messages saying I knew it was destiny for us to cross pathes and how I have been waiting for them lol well u gota have a laugh. It is unfair though when u see soo many fakes in rating sites at the top well ofcourse they will be most of the pics are flawless oh well there are some good fakesbusted sites n the net but I can't be bothered anymore tc:) | |

Anyway, I never forget a face of a model , even if it's someone unknown...and I have seen some profiles on here, with the faces up on there! This one guy actually put up a pic of David Beckham as his pic...it's an obscure pic of David Beckham, one with glasses on and a buzz cut...but it is David Beckham, bc I have the poster! lol. So, I asked the person why they put up a pic of D.B. as his profile pic..he read the note and deleted it. I guess he was scared he got caught! | |

When I tell people I am looking my worse in the pic, they don't seem to buy it. They assume that I paid lots of money for it, why would I not try to look my best? I didn't pay anything. I work there :/ Kinda works against me, so I rarely put them up.
It will be funny to see my current pic get the top 500. | |

I post 3 pics of myself to help weed out those guys who are not interested in mt appearance. Saves us both a lot of time and energy :)
As far as posting fake pics on a profile - I figure those that do are not interested in meeting anyone on an honest playing field. And if I met a "bait/switch" guy, it would be a deal breaker.
I won't meet a guy w/o a pic. And I don't expect any guy who is not attracted to my appearance to waste his time talking to me. I mean, what's the point ?

I dunno. I don't think its gay people like I've heard some express. I think its something else. Hiding fer sure.
Having a picture and verification is by no means proof. The picture could be of a neighbor for all we know. As long as its not someone famous, no one WOULD know.
Before laws and rules can be put into place, there would need to be a way to establish definitive proof of identities. For all you know that "doctor" your talking to is really some 13 yr old kid.
And not everyone whose married is looking to cheat either.
If their spouse did go on here looking for them and they had a fake pic and fake profile info, then how could they get caught? exactly.
So best advise is, just be careful and use common sense.
I agree with the second posting. Alot of these people are just on here to chat and maybe flirt online and never plan on meeting anyone. They probly figure the best way to do that is to make an attractive profile.
Yes it decepetive, but they probly figure they aren't hurting anyone if it just harmless chatting and forum posting.
It is hard to enforce anything on posers/fakers as you can't really pin anything down unless they REALLY screw up. A good poser looks like anyone else. So just be careful. | |

Maybe people post fake pictures since they feel under pressure to be model like- conform to society's standard of beauty.
Or they just have no friends and no life and are fat. | |

Posted: 1/12/2006 6:29:34 AM | I thought of another couple reasons people do it (in case anyone's interested):
- attractive females tend to get a more positive response and are treated with more patience and tolerance than the rest of us. So it may be that the person posing is just trying to get a civilized or kind response to a posting they made without the sarcasm or callousness or impatience people treat overweight or old or less attractive persons with.
- in real life if you rub some people the wrong way they never let you live it down, no matter how much you may change or repent your ways. And your not always allowed to start over, therefore having to live with your decisions. I think the internet has made it possible to get a fresh start.
And no matter how much you might ignore them or report them, they are still there bugging you or trying to humiliate you in front of everyone.
If someone in a chat room or forum is arguing with you, trying to embarrass you or just won't let you live a previous posting down but you want to keep posting to the thread or chat with the others in the room, then the posers might create a second profile and return to that thread or chat room as a second person and be able to continue posting/chatting without being harrassed by those people that won't let them start over or move on.
Its kind of what I call the "Batman/Bruce Wayne" theory. You can be looking right at and talking to that 2nd person and never even know its that original person that you were harrassing. Hence the fresh start and being allowed to let things die. You can't do that in real life, but you can do it on the internet.

I just had someone email me to tell me that a GUY in Ontario has stolen the pic of my back and put it on his profile to demonstrate his physique!!

even if it was possible to find the people using fake pics, POF even says they don't delete the people, just the pic and their ability to post more pics (read the rules).
And its not easy to prove that pic isn't that person. Whose to say (however unlikely) that those people in the pics aren't on the internet?
Even if they went so far as to do a lifetime banning (which is overkill), 10 minutes later they'd be back with a new profile and probably a better one harder to find, since everyone was so kind/foolish enough to tell them what they did wrong and therefore created a more educated and stronger faker that was now harder to pick out.
All you can do is be careful of the malicious fakers, and don't worry so much about the harmless ones. Everyone has their reasons and they aren't always "evil". | |
