If the clips are from a modelling agency or the like, then time will tell when the first meet takes place. I don't bother with the rating system because it never works right for me anyway. Even if the problem is user error, I've found that trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong is far too time consuming and never results in an answer.

As for airbrushing and the like, then by all means, if you have the skills to do so...go ahead. Most likely an upfront person will mention something about being a graphic artist in his or her profile anyway. And that being the case, I'd expect pics that have the magical ability to come alive somehow. Likewise those with an interest in photography: their pics are going to be better than some of the others are.

I would agree the rating system isnt fair. I had a young girl vote me a 1 and then I have had high votes up to a 10. I thought it was all just a bit of silly fun.

Dan I'd like too thank you for that response, I not only received a few fake photos of women and what gets me is those ten year old pictures, I'm in a few other dating sites which has video options I have an up to date video and new photos!
My final thought to this reply is "People be real with you're self and others"

i think the rating system is silly, it's not a true reflection on their looks, even if they do post real photos of themselves; people can vote for whatever reasons they want to - pity votes, angry votes, jealous votes, i wanna make people happy votes, and-because-my-keyboards'-number-1-is-stuck-down votes, etc.

it's quite fun to see peoples' pictures, (i like to people watch) but i do hope no one really takes the numbers seriously as a reflection of reality

Hi everyone!! .............. I just wanted to post a few thoughts about the
imposter pics? I wondered about the authenticity of some , but also wonder about
their state of mind. How, are they thinking? Not ....very .....clearly. Myself, on the
other hand, have not posted a picture as of yet .. I'm working on it..
The way I see it, a profile that is honest as mine and I'm sure most are... (giving the
benefit of the doubt).. means more than a fake picture. I rather have NO picture
posted than a fake! Although, a pic might initially bring us to feel closer to them,
it in no way tells us who they Really Are... I hope that everything goes well for
everyone on this site and we find our special friend or lover !
take care all........... Kyndness.

ROFL Lady! And right you are!! I heard a story about a 60+ woman using a photo of her granddaughter! What are these people thinking?? You'd think they'd get the hint when people turn around and walk right back out! STOP WASTING OUR TIME PHOTOFAKERS!!!

It's legit on my profile but several weeks ago someone snatched it and used it on their's.

Does this fall under "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery."? I would be really ticked off if someone stole my photos to use on their profile (not that it's likely to happen to ME).

Seriously....I was chatting with someone I'm CERTAIN has used pics he lifted from SOME commercial application. But I have no way of proving it. BTW....his profile is sketchy, too, and I have a hunch it's all fake.

And Kathleen said:

The ten things wrong with my picture in my profile:

1. My picture is not taken in my bedroom, on my bed, or in my lacy PJ's
2. I am not pictured wearing a string bikini
3. I am not pictured taking my pants down to reveal my thong
4. I have not arched my back to produce a bust line of 48" dangling precariously
5. I obviously did not know the 10 ways to wear nothing in a profile pic and get away with it
6. I am not pictured wearing a push up bra, a tank top and hanging off a stripper pole
7. I am not pictured bare chested with biceps bulging all over (and thank heavens for that)
8. I am not laying sensuously prostrated across the bow of a yacht in the Mediterranean
9. I forgot to have the picture taken of me in my string bikini and my dog
10. I am not claiming an average age of 23 with a touched up photograph

ROFL! Funny....the same 10 things are wrong with MY pics!

People who post a fake or misleading picture of themselves are looking to gain something that they either know or think they cannot get without deceiving the reader. But you can't say that this has anything to do with the "accuracy" of the rating system. If I see a picture of someone and think that this person is really attractive, then I give that person a high rating. Whether or not they are who they present themselves to be isn't the point. I rated what was presented to me.

Speaking of the top 500 photos by rating, I noticed that there are very few men on that list, and there are no male minorities either. I can conclude that the system is flawed, but actually it's reflecting the reality that minorities aren't considered to be as attractive.

I also noticed that women are by far the majority of the top 500. And women tend to get much higher ratings too. This makes sense since there are a lot more men than women on this site. You'll also note that most of the female voters are age 30+.

The rating system is just a reflection of opinions of users on POF. There are other sites that seem to express weighted results in order to compensate for the tendency for people to vote within a certain range (i.e., the person who always votes people 4 to 10, or 1 to 5). Some won't post results until you've received a certain number of votes. And still others will ignore results that fall too far outside of the normal range (i.e., the clear majority of people vote you a 7 to 9, but you had a small number of 1's and 2's...some rating sites automatically recognize these as being inaccurate votes and reject them). But no matter what, your rating is what it is: a subjective, individual response to your photo/profile.

I really, really hate it when people say things like this. Don't you think it's a little retarded to assume that anybody who doesn't put up a picture hasn't done so because he/she is ugly/fat/whatever? I don't even have a digital camera, so while my pictures are accurate, they're also old. I'd rather not have a picture up at all, but so many people think this same ridiculous crap, I sort of have to if I want anybody to bother with me at all. You are f*cking out of your mind if you think I'm going to make sure I have a digital camera so I have pictures available for a website. I don't get why people think it is such an incredible tragedy to talk to someone and then find out you're not happy with how they look. I'm pretty sure that says a hell a lot more about you than the other person.

I hate the picture crap on these sites.

About a year or so ago, I came across a profile of a woman whose main photo and playful words had me write to learn that she was a writer doing 'research' here for an on-line dating article. Sort of a let-down as I was up for a playful redhead as she presented herself to be ...and confessed to being a blonde who never showed her face. It's not just the pic. It's the context of it. Too posed = not for me.

OMG - how new to this are you?

There is a lot of things that happen to the pictures off dating sites and not all of them are innocent.

I had one nutter download my picture and then he didn't understand why I was not impressed with what he did with it. Chatted to one guy who told me he has pasted his bathroom wall with pictures off the internet dating sites, and guess what he does while looking at them YAWN YAWN, so girls surprize the men you going to meet by being better than the picture you posted online.

THAT IS WHY PEOPLE PUT FALSE PICTURES UP.

tcd, He's saying that he's as inept as it's possible to be. Now if we can get rid of those profiles and posts presenting a fake grasp of our language, it would be a better place here.
