| poem Posted: 3/31/2005 1:13:08 AM | i found this poem years ago...i love it...it says somuch that need s to be heard.
ME
What are you anyway? Black? White? Mixed? Latina? Native American? Mulato? Caribbean? Puerto Rican? Gringa? Middle Eastern? Central American? Venezuelan? Italian? Greek? Biracial? Cape Verdean? Spanish? Cuban? Irish? Trigueña? Jewish? Hispanic? Morena? Multiracial? Colombian? Eastern European? African? Mestizo? Brazilian?...
I'm all of the above because you think I am (depending on the clothes I'm wearing, the company I'm keeping, the language I'm speaking, the food I'm eating, the style of my hair, the shade of my skin, the country I'm in), and I'm none of the above.
What am I? I'm a question. I'm an answer. I'm a resister of racial classifications, A defier of ethnic designations, A list of possible labels, And a navigator of niches that don't quite fit. I'm a petitioner for no more pigeon-holing, Who loves to keep you guessing. I'm a medley, a mixture, A collage of colors, A blended body shifting shades, A cultural chameleon Of ambiguous ancestry, and hybrid heritage. I'm creator of my own category, I'm inventor of my own identity.
I'm mixed, but I'm not mixed up. I'm not about denying a part of me. I'm not about trying to pass. I'm no sell-out, no traitor, No wanna-be, no mutt. I'm no tragedy, and no exotic other. ...If anything, I'm just another hue of you. I'm not about confusion (unless you mean other people's confusion). I'm not about anomaly or impurity, About halfness or being in between. I'm no less of one thing than I am of another. I'm no poster child for interracial harmony, No model for miscegenated humanity. I'm not about messy mingling, And I'm not what's meant by the melting pot. I'm no jungle fever rainbow baby, No icon for interbreeding. I'm not about trying to be better than anyone else, Or trying to be different. What I'm about is being all of what I am... Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
I'm a black + white + I don't know what else = both/neither/other, "half" transracially adopted, descendent of people I've never met. A freckled, brown-skinned, curly/straight/frizzy brown-haired (with some black, blond, and orange thrown in), German American raised, Spanish speaking gringa and multicolorful part-time ex-patriot. I'm mixed. What I am is Me.

| poem Posted: 3/31/2005 1:37:37 AM | | I just read a post about not mixing races because it's long term effects are unknown. wtf?? My son is bi racial. His dad has sickle cell anemia. How's this for a long term effect....my son only has the trait, because being caucasion, I do not carry the gene. HA! Not to mention; he has the benefits of two different cultures. He gets to live and see first hand what some will never experience. And when he is old enough to date, I want him to choose who makes him happy regardless of race or anything else. | |

| poem Posted: 3/31/2005 2:43:28 PM | | I have to say this...i have dated and met allot of different people as far as races and releigions, my preference is not so much based on race, relgion etc as much as the way I am treated. I prefer to date black men, had preffered for a long time. The reason behind this and it may be wrong but its in my experience only..is being a BBW and being 6ft3..most not all most white men I have met prefer the tiny little helpless looking females verses a female of my weight and height. Its tough enough being taller then most men but add a ghetto booty and body and well you got a triple whammy. I date black men because all the black men I have met, befriended, dated whatever have always appreciated the way I look, I was made to feel like I was the sexiest thing alive verses making me feel out of place or uncomfortable about my height. Im not saying all non black men are like this, I am not saying all black men love the way I look. I am only speaking on my experiences. | |

| Interacial relationships Posted: 3/31/2005 3:08:29 PM | Wow, part of me can't believe that this post is still going, however another part of me isn't surprised one bit. So, I'll add more to the fodder:
I've been thinking more about interracial dating lately, and I'm still all for it (personally), however I've come up with some guidelines or rules regarding it (Of course these only go for me and anyone I date, until I have the power to extend my will to ALL! :lol).
While I believe that you CAN date ANYONE you want, I think that it's the responsibility of a RACE CONSCIOUS minority person to do what they must to maintain and preserve their culture.
I've seen several examples of interracial couples where they get together and one TOTALLY loses THEIR culture, and produces children that have NO IDEA of their heritage or ethnic background. I think this is shameful.
For this reason, I believe you should be strongly grounded in who you are, where you come from, what you stand for, and what you believe. In most cases, if this happens, and you follow your heart AND head, you can find the kind of relationship that is healthy and produces children that will add great things to our society. I think if you're running to another race to HIDE FROM or IGNORE your own race that this is rife with problems because it implies that you have some larger issues that you refuse to deal with.
Finally, I don't think the interracial relationships debate is "tired" or "drawn out" because these are issues that we still grapple with daily, however I would like to see what this debate looks like in 10 to 15 years, after everyone's "melted" together.

| Interacial relationships Posted: 3/31/2005 10:24:07 PM | hmm..^^^ this is my opinion...only keep that in mind...ahem... 80% or mor eof the people yuo meet on any given day have no friggin clue about their heritage...even most of the people who claim too...unless they have taken some advanced history classes in college.....dont know jack...sorry its true..being multi-racial, and college educated..and growing up in this supposed mixed up, confusing, state...gives me a special insight to alot of your (the forums) quest's for understanding on this particular topic...NEWSFLASH**** WE ARE ALL F'ED UP****END OF NEWSFLASH, black, white, "pure" race, non pure race, brown yellow pink red whatever...every race, EVERYONE.It is a human existential trait,,,being f'ed up....its what we do. we screw up, reflect, and improve, It is the ONLY way to improve...the x factor - It is a pendulum we have to have the back swing...to swing forward...in order to achieve greater hights we must explore equally greater depths..the reggression for procession... :) it is not a condition reserved for people of color or rare heritage or mixed race, class, to be concscience of our TRUE HERITAGE. we are all brothers, in my heart, and head... we all share a common heritage, it is a vast library of available knowledge...of affairs of the heart and mind....real truths about the here and now are just as important....the quest for Truth. is the heritage i teach my bi-racial son, whos a friggin genius....reading at a eleventh grade level at 5th grade....chip off the block :) Why is it my responsability to maintain only my heritage...some of our true heritages are hidden, noone (well i do) wants to face up to the true attrocities, and lies. history books are tainted and fail because they are written by race and class consciounce writers. They cant help it, My heritage is Human. the Truth is out there! you have to want to know truth....first...then you have to take all that you hold dear and true in your heart and throw it out the window and start fresh.(socretes ref.) Forget Race. Their is no winner in it. Study and preserve all heritages be not ignorant of anything you claim to stand firm on....know it sure to yourself....only not for anyone else, no thyself, be sure in your own will.. do as thy will that is all of the law. trust in it nuture it. it will always swing your pendulum forward it is what it does....it is the very heartbeat of god himself each beat a side of his two chambered heart of evil and good....we are the only ones that percieve the good and bad...he doesnt....al he heres is the steady rythmic perfect timepiece of our existance. (inhale) wow this is some good shit...this thread is awesome dont get me wrong but, the very question to me is like asking if (Is breathing earth air good for the lungs?) I know I know Im reaching there but to me it is this sure in my heart and my head and my gut that it is true...ya know...
....Interacial Dating is as good for you as breathing air....Recently found to be equal in nutrients and vitamans....so come on down and get your chocolate vanilla swirl flavored love....Now available at a forum near you.

| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/1/2005 5:14:06 AM | I think Interacial Relationships are very much like a car in that you can have two different cars both good brand names, for example A Ford and a Honda.
Some people like Fords some like Hondas but would you rather have a Ford that works or a Honda that doesn't vs. versa?
My point is it doesn't matter as long as it works and gets you where you want very much like a relationship.
You can have a coloured woman or a white one,one might be a total **** and the other might be a sweet heart, wouldn't you rather go for the good one regardless of the colour or stick to the **** just because she's of the same race as you.
Variety is the spice of life.
You get what you put out into a relationship regardless of culture.
You'll have a nice running car if you take care of it or one messed up car if you drive too fast and get into an accident. You treat your woman good and she'll treat you good.
Okay sort of stupid way of explaining my view but I tried.

| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/1/2005 5:27:50 AM | | That is by far the most ignorant post I have ever seen on this board!! | |
|
| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/1/2005 8:43:13 AM | ^^^don't know which post you found "ignorant"...but the fact that you don't "get it" doesn't make it ignorant- that's an opinion of yours. (which, if you don't understand it, does that make you ignorant?-hmmm...) well, I'm not bashing you, just making a not-so-subtle point.
I enjoy the posts in here myself. I like seeing people express themselves, and our world, in a positive manner. Then you have the negative energies that sit at the same table. Well we all have to eat here. Livin' and breathin'....dancin' and lovin'. Life's not so bad, no matter how you frown. Peace all- Good weekend wished once again~~ even to the grouchies
Asoka-I know what you meant. Word affiliation works GREAT to make common sense points.

| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/6/2005 1:37:41 AM | its all about freedom....to be what you want and to not be fined to escape the racial, shit lets just focus on inter-relationships. :) i have complete faith in the human race...i just have feeling at the end of the race there's only one runner. freedom.
"Im hypocracy searchin for an answer Im the the opposition to all of this nationalist propaganda Im the reason for the coin tel pro slander Im the young lords the mau-mau's and the black panthers Im neccesary to combat the evil I came as "violence"? yet the outcome will be peaceful? I am your equal! I came as che, malcolm x and albizu I am the people Im womens rights, black, latinos, asian, whites Im a burner Im chuck and nat turner Im the heaven in this hell Im a king like mel Im the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes written of as just trouble I am the foundation Im an entire nation Im persistance resistance the reason for existance Im patience Im confrontation Im independence Im the ancectors and their decendants Im evolution Im revolution they cant stop me from breathing cuz I am FREEDOM" - mos def

| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/6/2005 8:28:06 AM | | Actually races or species will suffer and die if not mixed with others this is why dogs have such a broad dna spectrum and cats do not.Humans have created dog breeds by selective breeding ie breeding two or three different breeds together to create one breed.Such as the boston terrier. If races do not mix it will take only 1 type of illness to wipe out an entire population. The bottom line is it's been happening for thousands of years and will continue until we are all one race and then racists will have to find something else to do. | |

| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/6/2005 10:04:52 AM | i find this all interesting as i always thought that different views across the point so to speak.. and that europe was always more liberal about this than the america's...
the best example is that when i was living in europe (well i still am!) and i was dating a different colour lady.. if i was to hold her hand and walk in public people won't batter an eyelid.... whereas when i did it on holiday in new york and the stares were deafening so to speak.....
my grandmother... old and wise as she was always said this to me... "it isn't a case of black or white, just different shades of grey"

| Interacial relationships Posted: 4/6/2005 10:06:09 AM | lol-great point^^ real deal is the baseline "hate"stemming from fear....it is manifested in thousands of forms....just a negative energy that we all feel in one form or another at times. it shows in racial tension(mainly worries that someone will get more sex/money/power) and not share- which history has shown may be true- so many ppl feel the need for ultimate control over others(which is outright selfishness also)....jealousy that one may feel unable to compete (shame ppl feel they even have to "compete" in order to live well.) this brings on a lot of strife as well. this same tension shows in religions competing, politicians, genders,a multitude of associations, family members, social groups, and in the simplest form-the dating arena...not taking anything away from the main theme of this thread---this is a highly valid thread. but realizing, like Th30ry said...."inter-relationships".... so if you pay attention, you can see similarities in relationship struggles of all kinds. To tag one type and "not understand" it's validity, would be the inabilty to cross reference a very basic problem...(which every human should be able to relate to in some form)
that, is a problem in itself.
