Posted: 2/8/2005 9:37:07 PM | (muah- thank you dear)- it's not the skin ppl are afraid of as much as it's the reprocussions of other people's fear. It's a vicious circle that needs broken. Really, think about it- whites aren't afraid of blacks- they're afraid of what the white bosses, or the white family/friends will do to them or say if they aren't in agreement. Well, that's my real opinion anyway. Hard for people to breathe if they think they won't be loved or accepted by their own family, or have the ability to hold a job and take care of business. But life does carry on, and multiracial minded people actually do hold great jobs, have intelligent caring family and friends, and make their way in this world. Not a big deal- until hateful people try to make it one.

Posted: 2/9/2005 2:22:24 PM | I haven't read many of the posts here, but to be honest I was raised to believe that it is wrong, and I have worked to change that about myself. I have date girls from other races and I am glad that I did, it has helped to develop who I am today.
But I also want to add, that it is just as wrong for people to specifically not date someone from their own race, and I know alot of people that are like that. | |

or maybe some of us never face this topic....does that make it an invalid subject matter for anyone else? I give up.

The point some people are still being plagued by racism is a valid point.
I guess no matter the level of hate/pain...not the fact that it does/does not exist, but how we deal with it. Some people are in a better position to deal with it. I have my days where I can blow things off with a smile on my face. Then there are those others, when I just can't stand it anymore. Most days it isn't even an issue! (wow, I love those days)
We must remember the people that have a harder time dealing, and give them a hand when they need it. Remember...what plagues the mind-will surely plague your life in general!

Race shouldn't matter when looking for someone you are compatable with, but it does. Attraction is a HUGE part of hooking up with the right person. Appearances can be a secondary factor if you have the right chemistry, but these cases are rare. Along with racial differences comes culture differences. For instance, I see a black woman nearly everyday that I find attractive, however, there is usually such a strong cultural difference between me and a black woman that they look at me like I'm crazy.
I don't consider myself rasict, but I tend to prefer caucasian features. | |

Choosing based on colour of the skin (physical attribute) should be no different than liking blondes over brunettes. It's a simple issue of attraction. Some people care about the shape of the nose some people prefer darker skin, some care about both, some about neither.
The problem is that most people mix cultural and physical aspects, creating prejudice in place of personal preference. | |

It doesn't matter what color it is. It's not like skin color makes one person better, smarter or more beautiful. People are people. There is an environmental reason skin color varies. There is an environmental reason why some people are tall or short. We are all of the same ilk. As a couple of posts have stated that it would be wise to check your family tree. I agree.
I almost spit my cheerios on the screen reading about the whole 'Dog' issue. There is no such thing as a pure breed dog anywhere in a show ring. When they start showing wolves at Westminster I'll start attending just for the amusement value (gladiators anyone?). All 'pure bred' dogs have been mixed to match the purpose of their use. That's one of the earliest forms of genetic manipulation around. They don’t call them dog breeders for nothing.
Let's take the dog theory, albeit wrong, to another level. If you only breed exclusively within your group you are eventually going to have a problem such as hip dysplasia in German Shepards, or epilepsy in Labrador Retrievers. This is caused by genetic stagnation. (A.k.a. inbreeding) Those that think this is a fluke should give a read to "The Origins of Species". A little book by Chuck Darwin.
Yet I digress. Back to the point. You make your decisions on who you want to be with and who you want to bring into this world. If you want to propagate your own race (There! I used the race word) or religion you will only look to the subset with which you belong. If you want to propagate love for humankind then you need to be with the person you love. Bring your child up in a household of understanding and compassion for their fellow person. We all share this planet. You may meet me on the street someday. I hope you give me the same consideration and respect that I give you. | |

She also gets lotsa headaches with her current same skin boyfriend- they drink a lot.
headaches- usually proportional to the personality conflicts that arise-, but if color can keep you from getting a headache, wow, I think you may be an alien! pretty neat.
