| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 1/15/2006 2:21:29 PM | | Just curious as to why you think women should not play rugby. There are a lot of talented women currently playing and pursuing careers in this area - I enjoy the sport immensely and use it as an outlet. Say, for example, when an ignorant person makes a comment - it is upsets me, I can take it out on the field... | |

| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 1/15/2006 9:21:03 PM | | check the rest of the thread...... what 'not meant to be played' means.......what sports were made for men.......which is most of them; because for years.......women didn't do sports....they were thought to be too weak. | |

Posted: 1/16/2006 12:14:08 AM | about once a month I go to one of the local colleges to watch basketball, now up here in Canada college baal is not the same as down south but it's still exciting. The women play thier game first then it's the men's game right after.
You know the men's game may be faster, more agressive and generally have higher scores but the women are out there too pouring out thier hearts to win and compete against each other. The crowds for the women's games are alot lees than the men's game but to me these people are missing out because I enjoy watching the women play as much as the men's game. Anyone who has the heart to compete, male or female, they are more than a step above anyone who will do nothing but complain at it.

| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 1/16/2006 12:25:11 AM | I just want to make a statement about tackle football. NO, I am not a feminist and no I am not trying to prove anything, but I played tackle football in high school as a wide receiver and I loved it. I took a lot of shit for it, especially a lot of clippings from opponents BUT I love the sport and I proved that I could take and give the hits just as well as any of the boys out there. I also ran faster then a lot of them and moved more swiftly. I believe that if a woman really wants to do something like that, then they have to prove that they can take it. And yeah, it's going to be a hell of a lot harder then if you were male, but if they prove their worth, then what's the big deal? | |

| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 1/16/2006 3:32:41 AM | I think the girls should play touch football with the guys more. :)
juuust kidding lol
I agree that there's been some major sexism against women in sports and thats starting to make a turnaround. Girls play lacrosse, soccer, softball, with great skill. Again I really do think girls can do whatevber a male can and I'm glad to see the girls making a comeback and making their presenses known.
Now if we can do the reverse for single Dads and Stay-at-home Dads and get commercials to stop saying "Hey Moms" and "ask your Mom" and "Kid tested, mother apporoved", as though Dads don't love or care about our kids then we'd really be making alot of progress. Why not replace the word "mom" with "parent", not that hard. But thats a separate thread in itself. :)
Back to the subject, I'm all for girl power and seeing the ladies treated as equally as the men.

How bout we turn it around and ask what sports men aren't meant to be in? I'm not too fond of guys doing ballet but jello wrestling is okay with me!

For instance, last week the US Olympic Womens Hockey Team played a highschool team of boys and lost 3-2. Sure it was likely a competitive game but your talking about the 2nd best womens team in the world and they cannot beat an American Highschool team. Imagine how they would face off against the male Team Canada or even USA for that matter. This way top females can get recognized for their accomplishments as top female athletes.
Well, that's because the US team sucks! The Canadian team would've kicked them 20-0!!!!
But in all seriousness, what you're talking about sounds like some kind of charity function or some sort of PR game. Hence, the women's team prob let the boys win. You know, not cool to beat on a bunch of kids!

| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 6/6/2006 7:39:18 AM | | Ignorant.... The perfect word for such shallow men. Where you raised to think we were born just to amuse you. To prance around in a short skirt, have your babies, and then be told what to do? It is about equality, and doing into others as if you wish were done to you. How would you like it if you trained twice as hard as a man just to get accepted into a sport? Just to have outsiders who do nothing but sit on their a** tell you to amuse them by doing it in a sexual way. Hummm, think about it. Fulfill my goal; or lie there for two seconds to please you... Give women some respect for having dedication, and heart. Soon you might be taking orders from a female coach that spends her time training and not tripping the fellow athletes on their way up... | |

| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 6/6/2006 9:15:33 AM | There is no reason why chicks can't play sports.. the reason they are not as popular is because they are not usually as good. as men
In english football the premier league is more popular than the 2nd division.. because people want to see the top players in action. And the same goes for women in sport.. people pay to see the best, regardless of who it is
If girls want to join in though, there is no reason why anyone should stop them. IF someone is good enough, then they should be able to play
Regarding the whole soccer/football debate...
Football and soccer ARE the same thing.. in england, soccer has been used as a term for football for many years, almost since the formation of the game itself... so it by no means wrong to say soccer
However, when the word football is used, it almost always refers to soccer.. regardless of whether rugby, gridiron or aussie rules also use the term. So - if you hear someone talk about football, then assume it is the round ball variety being spoken about...

| SPORTS THAT WERE NOT MEANT TO BE PLAYED BY WOMEN. Posted: 6/6/2006 11:28:39 AM | red5,you are right
yes the word "soccer" means football and it comes from "football Association" (As-socci-ation)
Rugby another british sport is also called "rugger".
as you say when the word football is used,it refers to proper football played with a round ball and by the feet because that is the origin of the game, just like basketball is called basketball or tennis called tennis.
if people from North America want to talk about american "football" then they must write American "Football" and not FOOTBALL because everyone knows that it is played with a round ball and by the feet and football has nothing to do with strange helmets and pads.

This is not true if you live in North America. In Canada (and the US), football means to toss the pigskin around. Soccer is when you kick the black & white round ball around.
