Posted: 6/7/2006 3:19:10 PM | Women should play whatever sport they care to play. At our local University, (Texas Tech) the women's basketball program is MUCH more popular than the men's program,,,,why?,,,Because they WIN--a lot.
Now,,I DO think that women shouldn't play some full contact sports WITH men,,such as football (American) or maybe rugby or LaCrosse--but big props to them if they do!
I had two girls on my football team in Jr. High, they got their butts kicked but hung in there and toughed it out for 2 years. | |

Women are good greco roman wrestlers....i have seen it. Rugby is the only full contact sport for women and as a player myself im proud that our sport provides this opportunity yet saddens me that we are the only one...as for doubters.....in terms of world rankings....our women rugby player are better than our men on the world stage. ( 4th compared to 15th ) ....just so you know... | |

Posted: 7/17/2006 5:28:59 PM | Irish_guy is of the right mindset. I played ice hockey for years on both all male and all female teams, so I have experienced both "worlds." At times I did have to prove that I was every bit as skilled as the men on the ice, but I did so without hesitation. There were a few male teamates who seemed to have issues at first, but it is amazing what poke checking the puck off their stick before they can get a shot away, or stopping what they perceive as their "rocket" will do to change their minds in a hurry.
The question is truly ridiculous.
I have seen a few postings by men who indicate that women should not participate in certain sports, such as body building, rugby and (north american) football because it is "unattractive."
That is sexist, ignorant, and incredibly simple-minded. Why should a woman refrain from participating in a sport she loves because males deem it to be "unlady like" or "unattractive?" Frankly, I could care less if SOME men found me playing ice hockey to be "unattractive." I played the sport for myself, and out of a life-long passion for the game, not for approval of the opposite sex.
It would be funny for the author or some of the other participants in this forum to pose this question to say a female boxer or martial arts expert and find out HER answer. I'd pay to see that!

(P.S. To the gentleman who mentioned that women should not play certain sports because it will damage their internal organs and thus make child birth difficult; I know quite a few female hockey players, former rugby players and freestyle wrestlers who have had children with no complications). Posted: 7/18/2006 4:20:07 PM | There is nothing wrong with a female playing sports, and to those that say they only should "play" syncho-swimming, gymnastics and figure skating you should get out of the old days where the women were supposed to be "barefoot and pregnant".
Honestly! If the girl has the skill, drive and determination, the talent and loves the sport just let her play. SHe's not out there to impress any of you, she;s out there for herself. Granted there are some females out there that are doing things like body-building that look like she-males, but it's something that she enjoys. Get over yourselves! | |

They seem to think that everything we do.......has something to do with them........ | |

Posted: 7/18/2006 9:08:31 PM | The truth is, it's not that women can't play sports because they are "guy" sports. That's a load of crap. I think women that play sports will play in a different style. Women's Rugby is played differently than men's, same with hockey. The rules are the same but it's their strengths that are different. Men will hit more and harder, where I think girls play and rely on more skill and teamwork. It's not to say that they don't hit, don't know how to hit, or don't want to hit. It's just not the strength in a women's game.
There is NO SPORT that women shouldn't play. Hell, isn't there a men's synchro team in California?? | |
