Posted: 9/28/2005 6:30:07 PM | Wow... cause they are for kids? Amazing. My brother is a game programmer for some of the top selling games on the market, and he makes more money than you could ever dream of. Just because it's a "game" doesn't mean it's for kids.
Hell, people play "games" all their life!
I think it is STUPID that this thread is even an issue. Some people have different ways of having fun. Maybe yours is shopping? Maybe his is Everquest.
BIG DEAL.
The fact of the matter is, if he doesn't want to spend time with you, then sounds like a personal problem to me. | |

Posted: 9/28/2005 9:16:06 PM | Video games are still seen by many as a "kiddy" or "dorky" hobby, and a lot of women don't want to be with a guy she thinks is either immature or socially inept. Never mind for a moment that some studies have shown that the average video gamer is 29 years old. This perception is still kind of there, even though many games are created these days with older gamers in mind (and I'm not just referring to violent games like Grand Theft Auto) and the video game market is pretty dependent upon older gamers who can buy many games. It will instantly turn off some people the way some other traits will as well.
I got nothing to hide. I've been playing video games since I was five, and I'm 21 now. I also have other hobbies. Video games don't rule my life, but I enjoy them.
I can understand someone not wanting to date someone who indulges in something excessively, to a point where relationships suffer-- I mean, who wants to date an alcoholic? That, I can understand, and I wouldn't date a woman who played video games for 8 hours a day (though I'd probably be friends with such a woman and join in for the first couple hours or so), but I don't quite understand writing people off instantly at the mention that they may enjoy jumping into the shoes of Mario or Solid Snake every once in a while. | |

There are lots of women out there who like a guy that plays video games.
I was an Everquest addict, and met my last long term girlfriend in the game. Our characters even got married in the game. We went out for a year and a half, living together for the last year. She ended up having real anger issues, something that I did not detect at all in chat in the game, or in the initial dating, so it didn't work out. But it was really fun for a while. I bought us each awesome computers and we'd play together all the time.
I know about 7 couples who got together in Everquest, and I've heard of way more. One of my female friends in the game moved from Costa Rica to Kansas to be with the guy she met. Another guy friend of mine moved from Montreal to St. Louise to be with the woman he met. On and on. My ex's roomate is really into video games too, and both of them are dam hot.
So, don't give up if that is what you want, they are out there.
Funny. I played Everquest alot, too. In all truthfullness, until you play the game yourself, people don't see why others play it so much. It's basically a whole other social scene. You go out with your friends and can sit around for hours at a time, right? Well with games, especially RPG'ers, it's the same thing. They can be quite addicting though. It's just finding the right amount of time to invest in them. Too much of anything is bad. | |

enjoyed it mostly because of how we contorted our faces while
playing the more intense games. Whenever we switched on the
PS, we knew were gonna die laughing.

I'd know this as that is what they've done as far back as I can remember, instead of going to the park or out and about personally I'd kick them out in the day. But I can understand a lil but would love a partner to do sum car racing with or mortal kombat or resident evil style stuff with y not :) | |

Posted: 9/29/2005 1:45:18 AM | I play a LOT of video games. As this post is being written, I own an original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, PS1, PS2, X-Box and a computer. I've beaten more video games than most people will ever play. I'm good at them though and yes, while they take up a good chunk of my time, I never let them get in the way of more important things. If I'm dating a woman, then she gets priority. Simple as that.
With the childish/immature thing though, there are two things that should be said. One is that more and more games do NOT target kids. Grand Theft Auto and Doom 3 are perfect examples of this. If I had a kid, I would NOT let them play Doom 3. As if I want my kid shooting demons in Hell. Yeah, right.
Secondly, I play Ultima Online (bow your head, the king of all games is passing) and I've met some great people through that game. I play that a bit before I go to bed at night, but not every night. Its a nice way to kill time after going out, or if I have nothing better to do. | |

Posted: 9/29/2005 2:51:17 AM | 7+ hrs a day is insane. Of course I use to do that. I work nights,I get home between 1-3 in the morning. Everythings closed and nobodys awake. I don't know if I'm losing interest or what, once a week for a few hrs. is all I need.

they maybe associate game playing with couth potatoe laying around watching tv stuff...
doesn't mean your that way,, but it may seem that way.... if you don't spend all your time playing games or laying around watching tv it shouldn't be a problem... | |

Posted: 9/30/2005 9:13:59 AM | | Um for all the women on here complaining "pay attention to meeeeee" and are getting ignored by the guys you're with that play video games...ummm ever think that maybe whatever it is you want to do *besides sex* seems as dull as looking at paint dry on a wall and he'd rather spend his time not bein bored out of his mind.....When i was with my last gf i wouldn't have a second thought about playing video games over spending time with her....why ? because she was freakin boring !! her idea of a good time was to go to a boring pub *yes pubs are quite boring* and sitting with some of her friends from work and just sit there talking ABOUT WORK ! i dunno how many guys would enjoy doing that constantly but sure as hell not me....and when i'm at home i usually do end up playin games anywhere between 1-5 hours at night....why ? because i'm usually playing halo online with my brother or some friends....i have a great social life....so how does the fact that i find you boring and i'd rather do something more exciting than hang out with you while you're at a yard sale make me immature ? it DOESN'T...and for those people that say "i don't like video games they're boring" that's probably because you're not good at them so you get frustrated and give up....that's been my experience at least | |

I have an ex who would drag me to her church (she was ultra-religious, refuting the claim all men care about in a relationship is sex) and because she was there it was quite enjoyable, sometimes we would just sit on a couch for a couple hours with my head on her shoulder holding our hands resting our arms on her lap and other times talk over a game of chess. | |
