There's a problem when there are responsibilities (whether it be family or household)that always seem to fall on the way side. Women by nature are the worriers and can't settle to have fun as well until all is done. Since some of you men are so young, you may not already have learnt this but will eventually some day. Only then can she sit to play along too. | |

Posted: 10/11/2005 9:29:55 AM | There is always something else to do after you finish a task. Its important to know when to take a break or else you will burn out. There are very important responsibilities like family and such. I dont think most people would shirk those and turn on the console I mean....its a machine. I can see putting off taking out the trash and such for an hour but I mean....seriously.... how many of you honestly think a guy gamer would choose his xbox over getting a hot sweet intelligent and funny girlfriend? How many of you gamers would actually do that?
On a side note : TV doesnt really stimulate your brain cells. In fact, it has a fraction of the stimulation that video games do. Two classic examples of course would be Tetris and Qix. Role Playing games like the final fantasy series are excellent in where you make decisions constantly, use strategy, and.... the story line is a lot like reading a good book. FF8 and FF9 are good examples. As for youth.... age doesnt necessarily count for much in some cases. There are responsible people, and then there are other sorts. Age counts for nothing. Experience and what you learned from it does. You are only young once, dont you think you ought to enjoy it while it lasts instead of being an old coot at 25-30? Me, I plan to follow my responsibilites, but not neglect to have fun and enjoy my life. | |

In the book "Game Over", it was said that children in hospitals who played video games got well quicker than children who didn't (the focus required for video gaming takes focus away from an ailment).
Of course, then we have the Jack Thompsons of the world who equate playing video games with smoking cigarettes. Oh well, I'm a gamer and a smoker.

Posted: 10/11/2005 3:01:32 PM | I agree with nightJ i don't think anyone on here that has been a gamer has condoned sitting in front of the tv playing games for a week straight ignoring their girlfriends or life's responsibilities, and i believe the topic question is about how so many women hate the fact that men play videogames and see it as immature and don't give them a chance once they find out that their man plays video games on a regular basis. Nothing is wrong with a few hours here and there...especially with strategy oriented games like the Final Fantasy series. Or fast paced strategic shooters like halo 2 ? *don't think halo 2 is strategic ? try puttin it on the easiest difficulty and run into a room full of enemies and take them out....easy no ? ok now put the difficulty on Legendary and just TRY to run into a room full of enemies and see if you make it past 1 or 2 seconds*. Then there are memory/puzzle games like resident evil that makes you remember what certain things go where in a huge complex mansion....they have also been proven to increase reflexes and such....i'm sure my reflexes are at LEAST 5 times faster in a game of paintball against someone who has never played either paintball or videogames *it being my first time as well* seriously let's take a poll....which is more immature ?
1. Playing some video game for a couple hours of fun ? ORRRRR
2. Modeling your life after the show sex and the city ? hmmmm i vote #2 hands down !

dude- i dont think it has anything to do with being stuck up, i would just rather be doing something more productively with my time, be it working, working out, meeting people, or something along those lines... and i by all means dont think i am better than you or anyother game lovers out there. thats your perogative, i just know one thing... i dont know too many women that absolutely love their man to sit infront of the TV instead of spending time with them, or doing things around the house, or whatever it may be, and i may be totally out of line and there may be some secret land where all these beautiful women sit around all day and play games, but i dont know... i was just doing what these forums are here for,, and thats stating an opinion.. i know i would rather be hanging with a female friend or even just a good ole buddy, than play games,, they make me tired, and sleepy, and they tend to put the weight on me if i sit around like that.. plus i have a short patience... and if you are insinuating that i am preppy, well, fine, in fact, thanks for the compliment... i like the fact that i look great in a pair of comfy jeans, a tshirt and flipflops.. and to me, sittin on a deck chattin with some guys and girls with some good wine and some good tunes would beat any game on a game machine... | |

The point people are trying to make is that just because someone is a gamer does NOT mean they ignore their mate, does NOT mean they are 500 lb unshowered slobs, does NOT mean they do not have a normal active life. You really can have it all. It is possible, its called maturity and moderation and priorities. For a stable, emotionally healthy person, the games are a hobby. No better or worse than any other hobby.
There are people who fit those extremes of course, just like some people that like to sit on a deck with some good wine are alcoholics. Should we automatically assume you are one? | |

Well, I've heard a lot of opinion's since starting this thread. I learned long ago that moderation is pretty much the key to everything. weather its videogames or anything else. If anybody comes up to you and tell's you your to old or that your wasting your time doing something you really enjoy, you look them right in the eye's and tell them to go to hell. because there's nothing more selfish then sombody trying to take away your happiness, especialy some one who's suppose to care about you | |

Again, Im an avid gamer, I play games a lot, but I know what my priorities are. We all choose to spend our free time differently. If I dont really have anything else to do (which in most cases when I have free time.... I dont) then you will most likely find me on the computer playing guild wars, neverwinter nights, or surfing the internet, chatting with some good friends of mine in denmark, sweden, australia, canada, spain, and so forth. Ill tell you this though, Id rather be out dating and having a time on the town. I know a 27 year old woman here in tucson. she has a boyfriend she has been seeing for 11 years. He plays games as much as he can, but he still makes time for her. She is a pretty happy lady and loves her man to pieces. Gotta love those stereotypes eh? Maybe you all should adopt a new policy. if you must judge, judge by the individual. stereo types will make you so naive and ignorant.
getting a girlfriend will be seeing my computer getting quite a bit less use. Games are fun. they are three times as fun with someone who enjoys playing with. Besides *ahem* ya might get lucky if you let the lady win *wink wink nudge nudge* my long winded point being, its just another activity, in the same category as sitting on the porch, chatting with buds and drinking wine. or biking at sunset. If you are still stubborn about believing in the gaming stereo type.... watch a video of the last e3. There is no secret land where women play video games and are hot and intelligent and everything a guy could want. They walk right among us. The hot blonde in the red dress you see walking by downtown could have been the person that got 50 head shots on you in counterstrike source last night. Take a good look at what you are saying now folks. If you stop and really think about it you just might realize something.

As for games period---- like I said before... if it's whatcha wanna do, then do it. Although, I hate to admit it, but I've never met a girl that enjoyed her boyfriend playin' video games.. in fact, all the people I met on EQ were in marriage problems because of the game. I think it's the same with anything, though. If you're obsessed with something in particular and it takes all your time away from your girl, friends, and family.... then you either need to divide the time fairly, drop the girl, or drop the game. The hard thing about most video games and they are extremely addicting to most people.... and they just don't realize how much time they spend on it. | |

Some of these ladies have no ida how much fun you can have playing with your friend or partner in a rpg, it is also great for bonding you have to work together and build strategies to beat the big guy.

We meet up once in a while and go hang out at like a coffee shop or something, nothing out of ordinary, and then we start hitting home, like I go to her place to hang out, and vise versa, but one day she came over unannounced and I was busy trying to finish a game on Warcraft 3 and it only took me like another 20 minutes to finish it, then she complains at me for wasting time on that dumb game, so what do we do after...? She rented a movie for us to sit there and watch...? (Movie was Kingdom of Heaven, good movie but still...) and after about 50 minutes of the movie, she phones her mother, and talks to her for about 30 minutes, and I have to sit there looking at a frozen screen...? | |

nah ur not throwing bombs, no need to defend your opinion. I dont think its like that though. I mean... all one or all the other. Games are one of many activities that are done in a day. Solely because its fun. Your idea of fun is a different idea from someone else's idea of fun. that doesnt make theirs wrong and doesnt make yours wrong. (unless it gets you in trouble with the police :p ) to me, its just one of many ways to pass the time. some people like to sit on a porch for 3 hours with a 12 pack and a bug zapper. As for me, Im still a bit athletic. My last bike got stolen, havent gotten a new one yet (since last one was stolen day after I bought it !) I get out some. play games in evening. but hey, that changes once Im off the market as a single guy. In a relationship I mean.... well.... everyone has their opinions. I guess I realize that nobody is the same. You guys will figure it out on your own eventually. | |
