| BOILS Posted: 10/3/2005 8:16:55 AM | | Yea that sounds like a good idea. But so far the best was the hot compresses. I just want to prevent them and I can't seem to get any info. (when I read med. books or searches) on how to do that. The doctor said that if I keep getting them, she will treat it like... well.. kinda like an acne and that should do the trick. I'd stay on this pill for about 4 months. But my liver enzimes are elevated and I don't want to kill myself lol. | |

The info I gave you is for prevention of boils. The treatment increases your bilirubin count in your liver.. I think. Just working on whats in my brain. If your not a drinker dont worry about it. you'll be fine.

| BOILS Posted: 10/3/2005 11:07:00 AM | | thanks beemancan, no I'm not really a drinker. I know this is a little offtopic lol, but do you know of any asprins (non-asprin) that works as good as Ibuprofen but won't eat your stomach up or hurt your liver? | |

| BOILS Posted: 10/3/2005 2:17:32 PM | Here is my poem I found about "Bobby" (it really sucks, but sums up the whole deal!)
BOBBY THE BOIL
It was only a small bump. Eczima on my arm. But something terrible happened. I lost my lucky charm. (HAHA stupid, I know)
The bump ripped open, Infection eased on in. It hurts like a b!tch, And looks as nasty as sin.
Bobby turned different colors. Mainly pink and red. As much as I love my "lil buddy", I'm hoping he'll draw to a dead.
I want him to go away. Hopefully he'll burst with glory. I'm sure I'll scream and cry with pain, And it'll be REALLY gory.
But Bobby's still here. Making his little butt known. He's growing more and more, Looking like a little pink cone.
Green puss stays right in the center. Too stubborn to come outta the hole. But he better get his butt moving. Monday is my goal.
(I know, stupid, but I laughed)

| BOILS Posted: 5/3/2006 10:14:27 PM | This is a reply to asb,I havent read far enough back here yet tonight all of the three pages.Have you been to a dermatoligist yet?And has your medical doctor maybe suggested this route yet?A topical acne therapy,Clindoxyl Gel, phosphate & benzoyl peroxide? This might be one place to start you might try it. | |

| BOILS Posted: 5/4/2006 10:37:07 AM | beeman - the fruit thing is just retarded. then add the enemas and it becomes hilarious. what medical info do you have to back that up?
naturopaths don't cure anything. any of you guys who buy that garbage should check out a site called quackwatch with a dot com on the end.
i have had to treat many boils in the er. most of the time broad spectrum antibiotics work just fine, but for multiple occurrences, you should have them cultured. boils are caused by staph, and if the first course of antibiotics don't do the trick, then the strain you have is probably resistant to the one you took the first time. a lab culture can tell your doctor which antibiotics your bug is resistant to, and which ones will kill it. STAPH IS VERY CONTAGIOUS. it lives everywhere, and the problem you describe is very common in the er. the reason popping them is a bad idea, other than spreading them to other parts of your body, is that a large boil will often form a capsule arould the pocket of pus. it is not enough to drain it if this has happened. you must remove the capsule as well or it will just keep filling up.
asb, if you have had as many as you say, and your doc hasn't ordered a culture, either tell him or her that you want one done or find yourself another doctor. this type of thing needs aggressive treatment, as it can become dangerous. what the guy earlier said about MRSA is true. that stuff is absolutely vicious.

| BOILS Posted: 8/24/2006 5:39:27 PM | **Update**
Haven't got boils in a LONG time now! I think I was overstressed!
Lost Soul~ Yes it IS normal to get then downunder :P So don't think you're alone because every female I talk to gets them (whether it's one their whole life, or many)

| BOILS Posted: 8/25/2006 2:57:09 PM | | Hi ya! Knew a guy in college who got them all over. Under his arm - bigguns. He found out that during a childhood operation he had been given blood - the wrong kind. They had to transfuse him or clean his blood. Yucky for you, my girl. Glad booby & friends are gone - for now. | |
|
| BOILS Posted: 8/25/2006 9:20:43 PM | | It's common to get them wherever you shave or wax. A lot of ingrown hairs actually become boils so beware of them downunder. It doesn't always stay nice and smooth when those gigantic creatures decide to rear their ugly head. Hot compresses seem to work the best. | |
|
| BOILS Posted: 9/16/2006 10:35:11 PM | | you can get them anywhere on your body... | |
|
| BOILS Posted: 9/17/2006 6:35:46 PM | Okay, whoever said 'bugs', shut up about bugs.
Boils are infected hair follicles, which everyone has had atleast one, but they usually clear up on their own. It is caused by staph. I've had a few and I just look at them as pimples that last a bit longer, because the few I've had go away in two-three weeks, and never become larger than a dime.
For those who get worse boils, it is more than likely your immune system, caused by either dysfunction or past antibiotic abuse (potentially forming stronger staph).

|
| BOILS Posted: 9/21/2006 5:26:06 PM | | The big one...on the back of your leg...could be a carbuncle...if it has many ports..it is a bundle of boils grouped together into one bug mass...very painful. I had one on my back for years and it would get better then worse...it is an infected sebascious cyst...or sweat gland...antibiotics usually get rid of them...mine had to have surgery because it was abstructed. It was as big as a golf ball on the inside pushing out. | |

| BOILS Posted: 9/29/2006 7:58:04 AM | | asb- you asked earlier about non aspirin pain relievers that don't affect your liver. ibuprofen is processed in the kidneys, so it is the pain reliever of choice for those with hepatitis, or hepatic disease. tylenol(acetomenophen) is processed in the liver, so don't take that. caution though - too much ibuprofen can damage your kidneys, so talk to your doctor if you plan to take it on a regular basis. | |

| BOILS Posted: 10/3/2006 6:09:11 PM | Use a Yogurt based soap. I know it sounds wierd, but the the healthy cultures in the soap keep the bad bacteria at bay, preventing them from happening.
Hope it helps. | |

| BOILS Posted: 10/11/2006 6:00:58 PM | | that might work for yeast, but i seriously doubt it would help with boils. | |
|
| BOILS Posted: 10/14/2006 10:13:27 AM | | I would actually like to see a pic of the op's boil. I have gotten boils before on the thigh and they were painful but I would just squeeze and pop the. All sorts of stuff would come rushing out and it would feel like a big moment of relief. I would then just rub it down with alcholo and usually after popping it about 3 times over a period af 2 days it would go away. No way would I just let it sit there. | |
