Psssst!.......this ain't God talking to ya!!!.................its Satan!!........do not believe it (he is the author of all lies!)

You missed the point Sum1Reel.....I could be some great prophet and you wouldn't even know it....who do we distinguish to what people today are told from God, and someone that wrote a book 4,000 yrs ago? How do we know that Satan wasn't telling Bible authors what to write hmmm?

So eagleeye,

Do you think Satan would of told us the ten commandments? Don't you think if Satan was the one to write the Bible he would have just told us a bunch of lies. Such as: It's ok to kill! It's ok to hate! Never love anyone! Never have children!

So on and so forth. But you get my point.

God bless and take care,
Jimmy

You obviously have no idea how competent evil operates. Definitely too many Disney cartoon villians for you.

Quite frankly, if I were Satan (not that I am), and were alive when the various books of the bible were being written (not that I was), I would have endeavored to put a few lies into the books. In fact I would have considered it a great personal failing to not have done so. I would then endeavor to corrupt the hearts and minds of all those who were first compiling, then those translating the book to work more lies and distrust into it.

What I would NOT do is make it blatant. They would be little things, small evils here, a great evil spun as God's glory there, all mixed in with a lot of good, knowing that men's hearts are far more easily swayed by the evil than the good.

Once again, that would be if I were your interpretation of Satan. As I stated in an earlier thread I think the Satan depicted in the Bible has far less power over the world and motivation to corrupt than most people give him credit.

Good points being made... If Satan is the master of all lies how can anyone tell who speaks the truth?... We could all be in a no win situation.

He could be the prophet
Of his own lie
Thus take what is read
And disqualify.

We have to use our inner instincts to know what is true for us and what is not true. NO ONE really knows all the answers. If something you do or say causes you to feel REGRET then it is wrong for you as an individual. If something you read or hear sounds right to you on a soul level, then it is right for you as an individual. No spiritual path is wrong if it is lite up by the light. Why not try and take all of the GOOD aspects of all the spiritual beliefs and incorporate them into a new belief system? Why do we need to have a label on us saying , I am a Christian, or I am a Pagan, etc? Why not just say I am a spiritual being?

brilliantlight;

This sounds logical to me, I have to agree. Is it right though to choose what spiritually makes you tick and develop your own belief system? I don't see that being a problem myself. How do you attain this, or do you follow the views of those in your own denomination?

Isn't that what Jesus did in his time? He created his own belief system based on the principals passed on from his core religion. He CHANGED the world. Why should this be considered wrong? I have been a spiritual person all my life, I've tried to take all I have learned and apply it in a functional way to my life, without becoming dogmatically anything. I try to be the best PERSON I can be, help where I can, be a positive influence and when I make mistakes, which I surely do, pick myself up, dust myself off and keep trying. I am but a drop of water in the big pond, but I like to think of the pond as half full and not half empty!!

The beauty of the bible is that it is a "living" document. You read the words from the page and put them into your spirit, but the Holy Spirit is required to bring them to life. True, the devil knows every word in the bible, but can't really corrupt it because without the Holy Spirt to breath life into it, to the devil it's just some marks on paper when it's being penned. Oddly enough, he has to get the interpretation from US! That's why Paul said: "The word of God is quick (living as flesh) and sharp as a two edged sword" Which means the brilliance of the word is that the Holy Spirit can incubate the word in you in a certain way and will months or years later minister the same passage in a completely different way. That why it is written, "the word of God is of no private interpretation" and each person must work out their own salvation with fear and trembling. Cool Eh?

The purpose of our lives is to live it in harmony with GOD'S will so that we honor and glorify him in all we do. Worshipping GOD is the most important aspect of a person's life; Loving GOD for who He is and what He does for us and will do for us should make incite us to obey him as fully and as closely as possible as outline in His Word.

I was reading a post about whether the Bible contradicts itselfs, and seemingly a lot of people tend to believe it does. Reading the Bible without an aid is like traveling through a dense jungle with a map but without a guide. The Scriptures plainly states that if one does not have Holy Spirit he/she can't understand the deep things of GOD. And please don't think of Holy Spirit causing people to speak in tongues, dance and stomp around the building, or causing other people to perform miracles similar to what Jesus did. The Scriptures says those things would be done away with once the congregation and organization of TRUE Christians was established here on earth.

Where the Bible says GOD acted in anger or His anger was shown is always done so in a just and righteous way for a right reason---------GOD is ALWAYS right. Sin, for any reason, is never condone by GOD. When the Scriptures shows GOD expressing hs love for humans and blessing them, it's because they obeyed him even at personal lost or discomfort. That they trusted GOD and put faith in Him incites GOD to shower them with blessings.

Never read the Bible to find "contradictions" in it. Remember this: HUMANS wrote the Bible so it would have more impact on HUMANS. The sucesses of humans as well as their failings are in the Bible so that we can make one of two choices: 1. Obey GOD, or 2. Disobey GOD.
Cases in Fact: Adam and Eve. ( I don't need to go into details here----do I??) Disobedience caused suffering and death for them---it causes suffering and death for all today.
Another case in fact: TRUE Christians who got out of Jerusalem when they------OBEYED---Jesus command about what to do and when to do it. Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman army in 70 C.E./A.D.

Our purpose in life now will lead to a grander purpose in life in the very near future.
The will of GOD is that all attain to repentance, for he does not desire to destroy anyone.
After Armaggedon, the original purpose for humans, lost on Adam and Eve, will be restored and realized.

All:

Our existence HAS no purpose. Why does it have to? How presumptuous must we be? We are a part of life that has been moving and evolving (yes, in the biological sense) for hundreds of millions of years. Why, then, do you (and many others) suddenly assume WE have a purpose? If humans hadn't evolved, would the earth still be waiting? Is there any end to our self-involved arrogance?

'Fear' is a word that is misused in the Bible, thus misunderstood... grammatically inaccurate, it is much better to use the word RESPECT. I believe the word 'fear' is just ONE obvious error, USED to bolster the authority of God and thus mankind into submission.

I have passed the 'magical threshold' of 40.
I know the "purpose" of my existence. To achieve what I have not achieved yet, to explore what I have to touched/seen yet, to love and being loved the way I have not been so far.
That warm feeling that is mutually felt and shared when we interract with others.
To enjoy simple things

What if the purpose of our existance was just that - to exist. And exist as completely as we can. :-)

I agree with wonkavision and carrotwax on this, adding that it is satisfying to be constructive by acting skillfully, and living with as much awareness as we can.

Our belief in why we exist: We are here to give glory to God. Jesus died for our sins so we could receive eternal life. Once we are saved, we are here to serve Jesus. Thats the summary, but their is so much more.

the purpose of my existence is to be here, now.
I will not live for the past or for the future.
I am alive, and I will experience my life.

To exist

Not much different than the purpose of life.
To live

Why complicate something so simple?

well, it could be that life is empty and meaningless, it just IS.

"meaning" is a story we make, so maybe we just ascribe certain things with meaning.

The real question is: is it better to have the flexibility of being able to negotiate the meanings we give things and events or is it better to search for some "ultimate" and immutable meaning?
