The Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS)'s neonatal circumcision policy since 1975 has been that there is no medical indication for male neonatal circumcision.

The CPS issued a new statement in 1996, Neonatal Circumcision Revisited, which strengthened its stand against neonatal circumcision by recommending that "circumcision of newborns should not be routinely performed." All provincial health insurance plans (except Manitoba) have now removed nontherapeutic male neonatal circumcision from the schedule of covered procedures due to the lack of health benefit. These factors, and possibly a wider movement to holistic health, have led to a decline in the rate of neonatal circumcision in Canada.

My son wasnt cut and i am proud of it. i was there when my cousin was cut and even though he was numbed, he still screamed! he then cried for days afterwards and got an infection from the circumsision and was in the hospital for a few days. poor baby. i wouldnt put my baby through that. but on the other side, my ex was and he has not had a problem ever. sex was never an issue between us and he throughly enjoyed it. his mom said he did not cry and that he was done because of infections and such. so it's your decision.

Both my sons are uncut. Thier father was uncut until he 23 and his then gf told him to get it done so he did it and he said that he regretted getting it done. I think its pretty common nowadays that for kids to not have the procedure done. I think by the time, younger children reach high school there will be a varying amount of people with different things going on down below.

I know that my grandfather had to have one at the age of 77, and I heard it was "mighty painful"~~ There can be problems and complications.. Maybe depending on the person and other factors. I've never thought about it too much until my grandfather had to have it done so late in life, because my dad told me how much "hel#" he went through.

it's been said that removing the foreskin reduces sexual pleasure in adult men. it's the same basic principal of removing a woman's clit... why would you do that? you wouldn't... for so many reasons. it's not a good idea at all but not just for that reason in my mind. it's barbarac to say the least.

Actually I know someone who had health probs later in life due to foreskin. trust me it is a much easier process when they are babies. If I had a boy, I would have done it just to get it out of the way, avoid any health risks in later life!

what sort of health problems did that person have sammys mom? other than pulling the foreskin back and keeping that area clean, men shouldn't have any problem with that natural part of their body. unless they're not washing properly.

l have not been done nor has any of my 3 brothers as was my father, as far as l know it never came up in conversation betweem my parents, mind you in england you do not get teased by stupid kids at school, and my son who is 5 now will never get done either, unless he has to for medical reasons.

Kitty,
I normally agree with you, but I have to take issue with some of your arguments...

The foreskin and the clitoris are not equivalent. The clitoris is actually akin to the whole penis. One of the most commonly used inflamatory arguments against circumcision is that it is the same thing as female genital mutilation, but there are a great many differences.

I have been with cut and uncut, and I prefer cut, undoubtedly and unreservedly. And believe me, they have never had any trouble with sexual performance or feeling.

I'm not saying there is reason to do this to every child. I have stated that I don't believe it should be done to every child. But please don't make it sound like I cruelly removed all possibility of my son enjoying sex away, or that I butchered him.

These arguments are the reasons I stated in my original post that there is little research out there that is actually emotionally unbiased, and that research is usually inconclusive.

I do not judge anyone who does or does not circumcise, but I will defend the decisions of both parties.

My little brother had to get cut when he was 2 his foreskin wasn't growing at the same rate as the rest of him, this is pretty common my friends son may need it done and another little boy I know had it done when he was 5 for the same reason. This has nothing to do with cleanliness it just happens.

I felt very strongly about having my son circumcised. I did my own research and with a clear and logical mind I felt it was the best decision for me to make for my son. This will always be a highly debatable issue as people feel strongly either for or against it. My position is for each person to research the pros and cons with an open mind and make a decision that they feel is best for their son. I do come from a family where circumcision was the norm, but that didnt stop me from researching the facts for myself. Personally I have known many little boys who have had to be circumcised later in life and it's not nice. One boy was 12 when he was done and was so mentally traumatized by it that he had to get counseling. I work with seniors and have witnessed firsthand men with penile cancer. Each of them were not circumcised and the pain and agony they went through was hard to watch . Because of this discussion, I asked my son who is 17 if he regretted me having him circumcised and his response was..."no, I'm glad you had me done." One thing I do believe in is if a person decides to have their son cut, make damn sure the doctor gives him a local anesthetic. To do this procedure without one is just cruel.

In the end I respect that it's every parents right to make an informed decision themselves, whether to circumcise or not to. They should not be made to feel bad or guilty for whatever decision they have made.

virgo... what doctors neglect to tell parents is that those issues have a way of working themselves out as the child ages. the urologists and my family doctor told my son and i for years that he'd have to get circumcised because the foreskin would not put back over the head. there was a big enough hole for him to pee through and that was it. well... he was preparing to leave for japan for one year and i was covering all bases with him... he had two of his wisdom teeth out - just to be safe - i wouldn't want a dental issue popping up while he was in japan, he had a full physical, and i asked him if there were any change in that secret area. he told me that the skin pulls back now. i didn't believe him... i told him i wanted to take him to the urologist to make sure it was ok as he said it was... he then dropped trow - i was shocked - but that's my son.... anyway... he cupped as much as he could and pulled the skin back to show me and sure enough, it was working the way it should work. he ended that conversation with "next time you'll believe me won't you." ;)

prior to that though... he never had a problem and i had him examined from time to time. now, if he had some sort of physical problem, i would have authorized the surgery. i just thank goodness it didn't come to that... he appreciates being kept in tact.

My son (who is almost 20) is not. At the time he was born the American College of Pediatrics was recommending against it...and me (being somewhat idealistic and at time impractical) decided against it and my ex went along. I asked my son once if it bothered him and he said no...that it was about 50/50 cut/uncut. Would I make the same decision? Probably not. I guess I am a little more less idealistic than I was when I was young.

very strange that women are so smartypants about something they don"t have, as a man who has one and have 3 boys, you are a very selfish follish bad parent if you don"t have it done. Yes sure teaching a little boy to roll back the skin to wash it so it won"t smell is nice isn"t it. I don"t have a vagina so how would I have an opinion on how to operate or take care of one?????? Circumcision is important folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grow a penis and get back to me.

Employedmale......many of the parents in here are single and female, so when they gave birth to a son, the decision on whether to circumcise or not tended to rest on their shoulders. As I said, I made an educated decision to circumcise my son, however many people choose not to do this and you're going a bit far in calling them a bad parent for not having it done. Many who are against circumcision would call parents who choose to circumcise making a poor choice.

Yes it is a VERY important decision to make, and as long as people educate themselves and properly research the pros and cons, in the end it is THEIR decision to make and we need to respect that.

very well put coffee. ;)

emplyedmale... you don't have to have a unit to make a decision like this in a child's life. circumcision is a personal choice, sometimes based on religion or as in my little brother's case, it was state law. seems weird to me that the government would require male children to undergo this sort of elective surgery but whatever... either way... your unit isn't in tact so you can only speak from one perspective. uncircumcised men get to feel things from both perspectives, which i think is great. once erect, it really looks no different than being altered. i've probably seen more uncircumcised units than you ever will in your lifetime... so i don't think i need to have one in order to understand this issue.

Seems to me, the guys that are cut, say it is important and it should be done. They, unfortunately are the ones that are the least knowledgable. How would they know what it is to have a foreskin? How would they know its pleasures? They don't. I could never have an opinion on how great it is to be bald, I have hair. Get it? Besides, was God wrong in making men the way they are born?
