The concensus here runs about 50/50.

However, women's opinions don't count and neither do men who have been circumcized before puberty. (neither has a clue)

Maybe because you refuse to even consider the 'other' side and respect the people who choose to have it done? Bottom line here is, making a decision to have a child circumcised is a personal one, and as long as it has been fully researched, you need to respect peoples decisions,

YES, it should be a personal decision, by the owner of the 'insignificant piece of skin'.

And the law says that you have to be at least 14 and 16 and 18 and 19 and 21 to make decisions for yourself. (depending which laws you refer to, which is also totally stupid)

Sort the BS from the truth; let's hear from the men who have been circumsized as an adult, as they are the only ones to experience the differences in the pain and pleasure.

And for the idiots who don't understand, the foreskin protects the sensitive nerves ends in the skin, on the penis head.

I can understand this reason of thinking, however as it stands, in the past and currently, it's mostly up to the parents to make the decision.

Anyone who researches the pros and cons and educates themselves has the facts about the 'truth'. I provided a link to a pro circ site, did ANYONE even bother looking at it? My guess would be no.

And for the idiots who don't understand

Ah yes, yet another intelligent comment to be taken seriously.

I am getting tired of people guessing. The site is pro and anti circumcision, again, a personal choice. Women generally prefer the circumsized man, because it looks cleaner. As far as smell, cleanliness, bacterium and infection, women have more problems than men.

I can't believe how heated this debate is. Why do people get so hot over such insignificant details of life. I mean, in the huge scope of life ...how high does this really rate?

I know that will draw fire, it has to at the level this thread has reached. Whatever.

I had my son circumsized when he was born. I knew a guy who had to be circumsized when he was in his 30's and he claimed that the pain was terribly intense and lasted for weeks, and he wished he was done as an infant. I knew my newborn son would experience pain, but he would never remember it. I did not want to see him go through pain later in life that a good cuddle and suckling on the breast wouldn't soothe [which happened within minutes of the proceedure]. Also his dad was circumsized and wanted his son to be. Good enough for me.

Hey, if it was good enough for Old Blue Eyes, it's good enough for me.

Check out the list of men we know with the "Uncut Version."

What does this all boil down to? Is there a VALID medical reason in circumcising an otherwise healthy male infant? NO!!

So what if a male MIGHT have to have it done later on in life….big deal…look at what woman have to go through in their lifetime. Men act as if cleaning one’s self is a major inconvenience …it’s just pure laziness. If the penis is kept clean…a much easier feat, than that of a female, then infections are quite rare.

My father had to have a circumcision at the age of 45….so what!! Men are lucky that this is all…other than certain cancers… that can become a problem in the latter years. Can you imagine if a woman made all the necessary “corrections”, so that she will not be bothered by any type of infection or otherwise, throughout her life?!!

Every part of the human anatomy will give us problems, at one time or another, in our lives. Shall we alter EVERY part so that any problems (however RARE they may be) can possibly be prevented? :rolls eyes:

I am getting tired of people guessing. The site is pro and anti circumcision

The following was taken from the circlist site I posted.

This web site is designed to answer questions about infant, childhood and adult circumcision. It covers the facts about this procedure and how it is performed. The site provides individuals who have chosen circumcision a forum to let others who may be considering the procedure benefit from their experience. Parents are encouraged to use this web site as a guide to help them decide what is best for their son. Those considering the procedure for themselves are encouraged to use this web site as a guide to help them get the information they seek regarding circumcision.

~~~
What is CIRCLIST?
There is an active group of individuals who have formed a private list serve (CIRCLIST) to discuss circumcision. 99% of the discussion is regarding male circumcision, although occasionally we do have postings regarding female circumcision (removal of the clitoral hood.) We share stories, news articles, statistics, rituals and pictures of circumcision. All of the information contained in this web site was posted to CIRCLIST. Many of us grew up uncircumcised, sometimes wish we had been circumcised or have actually chosen circumcision for ourselves or our sons. About half of us are US and the rest European, with only a few members from Asia, Africa and the Middle East. We share are own personal experiences growing up uncut and wishing we had a circumcised penis, along with accounts of our own personal circumcisions, medical information, etc. About 10% of the list membership are females who usually have an interest in male circumcision (for their partners or sons) or in having their clitoral hood removed. This is not a forum to debate infant circumcision. This is a PRO-circumcision group were circumcision is always supported. Anti-circ activists or others who are opposed to circumcision should not join this group and will be removed when discovered.
No, I simply choose not to engage in silly, inflammatory and immature dialogue. When one can only resort to cutting sarcasm and disregard other peoples viewpoints because they are not their own, there is no sense in even trying to reason.
As I stated before, I fully respect a parents right to leave their son intact. Some people feel very strongly on both sides of the issue, and then there are some people who are in the middle and want to hear from both sides before they make the decision to have their son circumcised. My personal position is.....as long as you research the issue in depth, and come away with a good knowledge base of facts from both sides, you can then make an informed decision that you will be comfortable with.
I was Curcumsised.......my son is not ..when we were married I did my homework with The Doc..The Internet...books....and my gut said.."Leave well enough alone"
the tipping point for me was after carefull ,intellegent questioning of it..
My Doc said....
"It's not required...." "If you want to spend $300.00 to have it done it will be for personal reasons"....
besides....I did the math and if had my boy done.......(at least where we live)...he would be "The odd man out" in the shower...not like when I was a Kid.
If it ain't broken...don't fix it...and...
I myself today wonder if I would be more Stimulated sexually if I still had a hat down there....
I didn't have much of a say in that one 35 years ago.
^^^ You....." did my homework with The Doc..The Internet...books", and then you made an educated decision based on your research and your 'gut' instinct. No one can say you made the wrong decision for your son. Nice to hear from people that actually did some research into it, and hopefully with an open mind.
My step-son was not, at 9 years old it had to be done. After seeing his pain and caring for him through that, my son (& any future son) was done at birth without hesitation. I would not take a chance of putting a son through that again needlessly. My son (who had it at birth) showed no signs of pain.
coffee... i read the information in the link you provided. :)
mysty... it may have been that link or another i read through that said the infant child associates that pain with the person who is their primary care giver. that's just an fyi... another person's opinion.
i honestly think this all boils down to a personal choice. i personally chose not to have it done because it is not medically necessary. i didn't feel it was my place to make that life decision for my child, i felt it should be his choice to make in life because it cannot be reversed but it can always be done later in life if he so chooses. i also saw this procedure done to another infant boy and it seemed to be very barbarac and was obviously extremely painful to that particular child. i also didn't like the idea of my son urinating and deficating in his diaper with an open wound in that area... there were so many reasons but those were the major deciding factors for me. just as my son is thankful i didn't have him done, he would have probably been just as thankful if i had it done... what they grow up with is what they know and is what is comfortable for them as long as they have no health issues.
there is no right or wrong to this topic, you just have to do what you think is right as the new parent of an infant boy. i personally prefer men who are intact, just as there are tons of women who are repulsed by that and there are plenty of women who prefer men who've been circumcised. it seems to all boil down to personal preference.
WYBK...Even though you and I are on different sides of the fence with this issue, we both agree on the above statement. I am simply a big proponent in thoroughly researching something that we have little knowledge about, and gaining some education and insight, so we then might be able to make the best decision....for us and our sons. Just as I am against a person not wanting to circumcise without knowing all the facts, I am against a person making the decision to circumcise their baby boy for the same reason. Due to many different influences, cultural, religious, medically and personally, the reasons we choose to either circ or not ultimately resides within each of us, and no one should be the target of insults because of their beliefs or decisions.
Cut it. I think if its cut young then the child wont feel or remember it.. however if they want it done later.. its quite the process. and hey... it looks cooler :)
I had both of my son's done, only cause there dad was done and I didn't want them looking at his and asking him why his was different. In winnipeg, MB, Canada, we only have 4 doctors in the whole province that will do this now. If you want it done after the child is about 2 weeks or older you have to pay, so if I were you I have no idea were you live but think really hard!is his dad done???Cause that made up my mind , plus I think it looks better when it is done. I been with guys who are done and not done, I prefer guys who are done, my preference!!!!
Hmm...what's 'normal'? Looking at the statistics on wikipedia.com only 12% of boys had neo-natal circumcisions in Canada in 2003. In the US however it was 65%. In the UK it was less than 1%.
What a most excellent reason for justifying surgery. (sarcasm)
I think that would so very difficult to explain to a child. I mean really !!!! (more sarcasm)
This is no different than racism, a child doesn't notice things that are 'different' unless parents or other influencial people make it an issue.
If daddy had one leg, ??? awww, never mind...........
^^^ Excellent point Ya472....Just because my ex had it done...did not justify having my sons done as well. 45/50 years ago, little was known, as to what the the pros vs. cons were. Now that more research has been conducted, the stats indicate that more parents are choosing to not circumcise their male offspring .
First off, comparing circumcision to racism is by all means ludicrous and idiotic.
Ludacris and idiotic, you bet it is! When I read that statement I was itching to reply, however I couldn't do it in a logical manner, so I just ziiiiiiiiiiiiiped my lip... (We need a smiley that zips it's lips!)
As for infants remembering pain, no they do not. I even asked my son if he had any recollection of being circumcised at 2 wks of age. He simply looked at me as if I had a 3rd eye in the middle of my forehead and said......."no".
