| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 9:44:52 AM | | Disney Mom.....there are many who use the do as I say, not as I do parenting style....these are the same parents who shake their heads with bewilderment when their children grow up and follow in the footsteps laid so well by their parent(s). | |
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 12:33:19 PM | This is to JMARS...perhaps if you read more then the package that your paper comes in you would know that it is well documented that cops would rather deal with drunk then someone stoned....my dad is a retired RCMP and worked undercover for years so..I think that would make him an "expert".
One of the biggest issues in Canada over the legalization of pot is how to actually police the integrity of the individual when driving etc. As it is well doncumented that when someone is stoned their reaction time is altered, which of course can effect one's driving skills! ( since it is known that you lose time while stoned as well..and tend to be a bit forgetful...alot of things can happen to you that you can be accused of later) It is also well documented for those who drive stoned..that peace officers do hang out in confectionaries looking for people that have serious munchy issues. Their plates are documented for future reference inregards to busts..etc of future suppliers. Bet you didn't know that either!!!....you may think it is a waste of time..but as it is also well documented "some" users of "rec" drugs also "sometimes" have other "user issues". If you are from a smaller city, where everyone knows everyone by 3 degrees of separation...it is interesting to see what businesses suddenly shut down..after a major bust. One of the best restaurants in town suddenly closed because...well I am sure you are starting to get the picture.
For you apt dwellers that know there is a grow op in your building..MOVE....the black mold from the humidity is going to cause serious illnesses for you and your family. Looking to buy a house that has damage by dampness..chk the addie out to see if it was in a drug bust.
If you really need the buzz..go for it..just remember it really isn't a secret!!

Your argument for why pot is illegal is, well, dumb. It does nothing but take us back to "why is booze legal?"

| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 1:47:47 PM | I am a 32 year old single mum from the UK and up until 8 months ago, was in a violent relationship for about 6 years. I have a 2 year old daughter from that relationship and am now bringing her up on my own.
As mentioned by "urfreakyfriend" previously, I too smoke a spliff now and again and regularly smoke cigarettes. My daughter, like "Freakys", is very intelligent and well ahead of where she should be. Due to the circumstances regarding the breakdown of my relationship, the subsequent court case and me having to spend 3 months in a womens' refuge, I have had Social Services visiting me and questioning my abilties to parent my daughter. On both occaisions, I was told that I had a bright and intelligent daughter who was polite and well mannered. I also was told that I was a good mother and bringing her up well. Consequently, the assessment was done and then on both occaisions, the case was closed.
I DO NOT smoke weed infront of my daughter and if I have a joint it will be outside on my balcony, well after she has gone to bed. I don't drink and rarely go out, but am happy to be living on my own free of the constrictions of my past life. I have spent 6 years being controlled and told what to do by some moron who misjudged me and told me I wouldn't survive without him. This is my time to find out who I am and being a mother is what I love and do best.
Smoking either cigarettes or weed has no affect on my abilites to love and care for my daughter. I held down a good job for 11 years before I came pregnant. It never affected that!
At the end of the day, as long as it doesn't affect your kids and they grow up to be respectful human beings in loving, caring families, who cares what their parents do recreationaly now and again?
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 1:55:03 PM | okay then since the majority of you smoke pretty much every single day.. i have a question..
WHY do you smoke it?
and please dont compare yourself to the europeans who drink a glass of wine each day
|
| |
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 2:04:06 PM | | Its a bit amazing how many parents here on the internet admit they do drugs. | |
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 2:05:05 PM | | I smoke it because it makes me relaxed and when I do smoke it with my friends when I am apart from my daughter it makes us laugh and have a good time, pretty much what a good session down the pub would do for a drinker. And, I'm European and I hate wine. Next stereotype? | |
|
| |
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 2:11:37 PM | | Yes, of course I can. Only when we don't have the kids and we are having a night to ourselves. I don't do it all the time, and it doesn't interfere with my daughter's wellbeing | |
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/5/2007 6:20:31 PM | Next stereotype?
^^ stereotype?? not
have you been to parts of europe where drinking is more acceptable than here?? i guess not
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 7:46:38 AM | I Have travelled Europe extensively and can't see why that is relevant to the argument that this forum is about. I am not going to make excuses about smoking or try and justify it by saying that it is medicinal or anything like that. I do it OCCAISIONALY because I enjoy it, nothing more, nothing less. I'm sorry if that disgusts or offends anyone, but that is my personal choice. It is not an initiation into harder drugs and I've no intention of doing those either. | |
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 8:02:57 AM | Europe is far more accepting of alcohol than say the US, but on a par with Canada, I believe tigress is from BC, this has a per capita alcohol consumption (pure alcohol) of 8.2 litres per annum which is almost exactly the same as the UK but 30% higher than the US. Topping the league of nations is always the Czech Republic with 13 closely followed by the french and Germans at around 11.5
The discrepancy is though that despite the US being such light drinkers apparently, with the amount of near total abstinence or very very occasional drinking their abuse rates rocket past even the Czech Republic, it is because it seems less socially acceptable to drink in the US and being a fundamentalist nation therefore the drinking is concentrated on a smaller number of people.
I am in Texas this week and I have people drop round to the house, in the UK I offer beer or wine, here Coffee or Coke.
SO I doubt very much my fellow englander has been anywhere in Europe that is much more accepting of booze than BC, but she has lumped the canucks in with the yanks, however even there the north south divide is huge in terms of acceptability LOL

| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 8:39:09 AM | All fair and well....but what does ^^^^ that have to do with parents smoking pot?? They are two completely different things. One being legal and the other being illegal for starters.
OT: I am completely against parents smoking pot. My kids father was abusive in way more ways than one and he was especially worse without his pot. When I got Child Welfare involved they threatened to take the kids away from me if I ever took him back due to his pot smoking....not the violence, or the emotional abuse...or even worse things he was accused of....they were only concerned about his pot smoking.
There are better things a parent can spend their money on than drugs(and alcohol...if thats being dragged in too). Put your kids in more activities and participate with them. Spend it on clothing, healthy food, etc.
It is illegal and being that it is....I will follow the laws so I can do everything I can to keep my kids safe and healthy and with me.
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 9:00:16 AM | | Shouldn't the issue lie less on the fact that it's illegal and more on the fact that it's an addiction to an unhealthy substance and your child knows you're doing it? | |
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 9:06:05 AM | Good point^^^^
And being that I don't smoke it and haven't since before I had kids I have no worries...either way you look at it.
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 9:25:25 AM | Hey all, I just had to come one and say something.... I know that it is illegal. I believe the only reason that is, is because there's to much work to legalize it...the gov't would always have to be competing with your neighbor....and they don't like competition...we all know that...lol... as for smoking it....i've done it over the years. As a teenager I came out of many rooms and cars, when you open the door a puff of smoke comes pouring out.....quit while i was pregnant.....didn't start again til they were older.... now that we're all older, I smoke it once in a while. Just because it relaxes me. When I'm by myself, I'll just take a couple of hits, turn the music on, and start cleaning. Or draw......I find it actually helps my creative juices.....and yeah, maybe some other juices as well.........lol....pot and sex......is........TRUE!

| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 9:35:41 AM | I guess I have a question. If you're a pot smoker or drug user of any kind are you OK with your children doing drugs? (or if they're still young doing them when they're older)
The fact of the matter is, they're going to know. And when their primary teacher is doing drugs they are automatically assuming the substance is safe and A-OK to do.

| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 9:38:35 AM | hmm this is a sensitive issue for me.
As someone who did it in my youth... to now I hate it with a passion.. to knowing ppl who are total potheads (with children in the house) I absolutely cant stand it.
I go into thier house and I almost want to vomit. I see them rolling with thier kids upstairs and it really really pisses me off. Good ppl... just idiots who care more about having money for thier goddam pot than buy some groceries. They never smoke aorund thier kids whatsoever they go into the basement but it still really bugs me.
So I dont go over there unless I have to. Even my fiance has mentioned something.. like take it easy...why dont you go outside.. or phewwww thats stinks guys!!!
I understand the relaxation standpoint.. and the mellowness it gives out.. but when you have children in the house.. spend your money on pot and have your kids eat mac and cheese and noodles non stop.. you got issues..and you need to address them.
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 10:18:33 AM | good point ruri234... in childrens eyes their parents do no wrong....and lets be realistic..even if u do smoke weed...do u really want your child to be 16 and smoking it too???If your answer is yes u have some serious issues and i pity your children...party days are over when u decided to have children...time to stand up and be a role model... | |

| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 11:23:17 AM | Naughtez;
I have heard this also, that there isn't a test that clearly shows that you are under the influence such as a breathlizer for alcohol. Could you wrong on this but that is what I have heard since a blood test only shows that the person has either used or been exposed to pot in the last 30 days.
The one issue that I read when Canada was considering decriminalization is that the US ambassador gave us a warning that it would not be a good idea since it would effect cross border trade. The US ambassador I think said that if Canada were to decriminalize pot that border inspections would go way up and that trade would slow down.

| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 12:51:45 PM | My daughter does not eat (re:trikersbaby) Mac & cheese and noodles non-stop. 1: I hate McDonalds or any fast food places and so have only taken her into such places once or twice. 2: She will only eat freshly prepared food and hates junk. She eats well and I take her out to plenty of places, walk with her and even though I am now single after her idiot of a father tried to kill me, I'm taking her on holiday this year and we do much more things and her life is better even with a mum who smokes a dooby now and again.
The feeling I get from the comments in this forum is that a lot of you seem to think that smoking weed means that you are a hardened drug addict. I have never done anything like that in my life and don't even drink alcohol. Yes, it has been pratically de-criminalised here in the UK, but that just shows that even the government thinks it's not as harmful as once thought.
My daughter is safe and happy now, 8 months ago she wasn't. I was being subjected to abuse on a regular basis by HER father and more besides and she witnessed a lot.
I want to enjoy myself within reason, I'd rather smoke occaisionaly and be happy than be an emotional wreck like I was then.

you can learn to enjoy your self WITHOUT smoking pot
It's not that hard to do
you do not need to smoke pot to feel happy. you do not need pot to enjoy your self
|
| single parents smoking pot Posted: 2/6/2007 1:11:22 PM | I DON'T smoke weed to make me happy. I DON'T need pot to enjoy myself.
It's just nice now and again.
You're right, it isn't hard to do. But I don't need to learn anything, smoking isn't the b-all and end all you know.

Responsibility is my anti-drug (dont ask me why I said that-saw that on one of those anti-drug commercials about drug use).
Ya know, the one that has the parent walking in on the kid smoking weed. The father asks where he got that(or learned that), and the kid goes, "I got it from you dad!" DOH. Slam.
