I can...........
Tinman....behind you 100% !!!!!

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 8:59:16 AM | no Gordon fan will EVER agree that he has been handed everything. here is this young, good looking driver, with his even better looking wife. make sure you put the camera on them so that everyone can see him kiss her every week. Brooke, make sure you wave at the cameras. Hell, they have even throw yellow flags to avoid Gordon going down a lap. I don't hate Gordon because he is successful, I hate him because he did not EARN his success. Also, I believe I remember Tony Stewart congratulating, was it Kasey Kahne, after he won a race not to long ago. (racechik help me out here) Rousch Racing SHOULD have lots of cars in the chase, he owns like every other one, doesn't he? Maybe they should be called George Steinbrenner Enterprises. (Being from New England, I think you can understand that!) Tony has also been successful at every thing he has raced. Tony was always the "badboy of racing" though. Tony was never given ANYTHING. That is why I like him. Everything that he has, he EARNED. He has become the best driver in nascar, with even nascar against him. | |
|
| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 9:28:49 AM | Racechick~ I stand corrected. I think I do remember Tony congratulating Kasey.....None of the others do I remember though.oh yah.....Chack your settings.. tinman~If you are saying Jeff never earned any of his 73 victories, and or 4 championships.....Again I disagree. The 24 has finished behind the 48 in points 2 years in a row now.....So you can't say Hendricks gives him more than anybody else. The most notable things that Tony has earned is fines and probations! Even a probation from his own sponsor! How bad is that!

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 9:47:45 AM | Okay, here's my opinion FWIW. Tony is a great driver(Particularly since we share the same name). Yes he's always had a "bad boy" reputation, just like A. J. Foyt did and numerous other old timers. Hell, those boys did their arguing in the garage with hands full of wrenches God bless 'em. Jeff Gordon may have had his ride handed to him, but he made the best of/with it. He's the only driver out there with even a remote shot at attaining Petty's record of 200 wins. Folks used to boo and curse Darrell Waltrip the same way because he had the audacity to be good. Other drivers who suffered the same fate were Dale Earnhardt and Fastback Freddie Lorenzen. Dang, this soapbox is getting shoe sole marks all over it. Guess I'll give it a rest. If you got it a salesman sold it, a trucker brought it, and it came in a cardboard box.

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 9:54:09 AM | boxman~Did you just put Jeff in the same category as Richard and Dale Sr.? LOL!!! Oh......And who the hell is Fastback Freddie???? LOL!!!

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 10:00:49 AM | WHO THE HELL IS FASTBACK FREDDIE? OHMIGOD ANOTHER LATECOMER. Help me out here Highgear and Sinjia. This boy needs a edumacation. In the 60's Lorenzen became the Tony Stewart of his era. When Ford went to the fastback roofline in '62, he was racin' for Holman-Moody and earned the name "Fastback" for his winning ways. Do I also have to explain Holman-Moody to you? OK NH, you can come back out and play with the big boys again

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 11:54:59 AM | NHguy - i wouldn't say that Gordon has EARNED all of his victories. i have seen more than one yellow flag come out for "debris", coincidentally at the same time Gordon was about to go a lap down. Also, nascar wasn't real big on the Gordons' divorce, so yes, they did give up on him somewhat. They didn't want to get drug into that whole thing, just in case it got ugly. That was when they went to the "young guns" promos. Not just to promote the young drivers, but to divert attention from Gordons divorce. As far as Stewart getting fines and such, that is also promoted in nascars favor. "goodboy vs. badboy" "florida state vs. miami" "yankees vs. red sox" "steelers vs. eagles" "Ali vs. Frazier"
you have to have a "fued" to make a storyline. Stewart just happens to have been tagged with the "badboy" image, so it's easy for nascar to promote him that way. But you have to admit Tony is a way different driver now, then he was.
racechik what do you think of the "holiday photo"?
|
| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 2:34:28 PM | Boxman~ I have no idea who Holman-Moody is.....LOL!!! And Ford went to the Fast Back roofline in '62?? I wasn't even an itch in my daddy's shorts then...LOL! Tinman~I agree you have to have the fued....Everyone wants to see that, but Gordon having more victories due to yellow flags is only because he has more victories than anyone else active anyhow. If you are gonna start counting that then take away one of Mikey's victories at Daytona, and many for other drivers also. About his divorce, there were legal things drawn up to make sure it never went public. And who would want it publicized anyhow? Most of these guys want there private lifes to be private. Brooke was a Winston girl so of course the eyes of the sport were on them. I don't agree with your take on the Young Guns either. Nascar is looking at there future every time they promote one of those guys. You are right that they need the "Goodboy vs. Badboy" thing, but in the eyes of almost all fans Jeff is not a "Goodboy". Jeff pretty much promotes himself, and I can say that at least at LOudon gets the loudest boo's with the exception of maybe Kurt Busch. Bottom line is people dislike Jeff for the most part because he is good. The same way as there were a lot that boo'd Dale Sr. when he was alive. I was at Loudon one year when Dale got the loudest boo's then the following year people were crying and holding up 3 fingers for the silent lap 3. There were people yelling his name and cheering, and those were probably the same people who boo'd the year before. There were only 2 drivers to win the real Winston Million. And lets face it that is done not only with a lot of luck but true tallent. Now I can sit here and babble a lot more stats off, but I probably don't need to......Jeff is the best active driver today, and probably in the top 5 of all time.......

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/15/2005 4:49:12 PM | NHGUY~~Holman Moody built engines for Woods Bros.(and others)~ Also ran in the last 2 races ran on the beach of Daytona with Curtis Turner and Joe Weatherly. They've had wins with Fred Lorenzen,****Hutcherson, Mario Andretti and David Pearson. Now please tell me you have heard of these people!!!!! Take Care! RaceChik20 | |

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/16/2005 3:56:56 AM | Whether Tony is a "goodboy" or "badboy" doesn't matter. It matters who the best driver on the track is right now and I'd say with a 52 points lead, it's goota be Smoke.
Johnson had a lousy race last week. I'm keepin my fingers crossed that he'll keep going backwards at Homestead just like he did in Phoenix.
Tony's hungry. He's gonna have Johnson for dinner on Sunday

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/16/2005 6:33:40 AM | Way to jump in there chik. Holman-Moody were probably the most dominant force in racing of their time. They almost turned the sport into a one brand sport with the domination of their Ford teams. It took GM a few years and a ton of $$$$ to catch up. Oh by the way, don't forget to add Fireball to your list. A bit of trivia for you. Know where Fireball Roberts got his nickname? He was a pitcher on his high school baseball team and had a wicked fast ball. Go win some bar bets with that one.

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/16/2005 6:53:51 AM | Boxman~I didn't know that was how he got his nickname but I'll remember it for the future! Thanks! Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't "Fireball" die from injuries he sustained in a wreck at Charlotte? I was only listing a few for NHGUY.....I could go on....let's see if he knows some of these that drove Holman-Moody's.....Mark Donohue...Parnelli Jones....Augie Pabst....Junior Johnson....Cale Yarborough.....Al and Bobby Unser....Bobby Allison....Ned Jarrett...the list can go on!! I'm sure he has heard of at least most of these....right NHGUY?????
Take Care! RaceChik20

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/16/2005 7:13:36 AM | Racechick & Boxman~In my own defense here the only race that ever got shown up here when I was a kid was the Daytona 500. I can remember cheering for Richard Petty but other than that all I remember is people he was driving against. So yes Racechick I remember a few of those names, but there a few I don't also........

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/16/2005 7:27:13 AM | Boxman ~ I can always count on you to refresh my over used brain to recall some of the greatest of all time... And I think RaceChik just jumped even higher on my respect list to pull out the names she just rattled off. I loved Joe Weatherly!!!! He was ALL man! So many here tho would never know them...
Tinman, I have read the debate of you and NH Guy. Tony is a really good driver. Cant and wont ever take that away. But as for saying Jeff hasnt worked hard for what he has is plain silly. I personally raced against Jeff in the sprint car division back in the early 80's. He was 14 or 15 at the time and our local track allowed him to race against us. I talked to his step dad, John. It was one of the most amazing stories I ever heard how they did what they did for Jeff. The Bickfords did everything right along the way. Jeff wanted to be a star and race. Plain and simple. He had the drive to compete and win, just like every other driver in any form of racing... its why we race!!! John always made sure that Jeff was put into a good ride. He didnt allow him to run in junk. Even back when we ran wheel to wheel with Jeff, he had Pepsi as his sponsor when sponsors were rarely even heard of in the sprint car ranks. He then got into midgets and sprint cars... and won it all there before moving on.
He signed with Hendrick, which at the time was a really good team. Good cars, good teamates. They did make Jeff the poster boy! Or in Dale Sr's words, the kid! He was young, attractive and a very good shoe. He came in and blistered all the win records. For his age. Even now, after just 11 or 12 years, he has 73 wins... only three behind the legendary Dale Earnhardt. And that is after Dale's 20+ year career. Look at Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin. Neither even have 40 wins in their 20+ careers. Jeff has literally double their totals. Actually he has won more than Rusty and Mark combined! So is he good? Of course! I feel he was one of the greatest!
BUT, now this is where I may differ from NH Guy. I feel after Jeff's divorce from Brooke sucked the life out of him. And it killed his spirit. I dont think Jeff has that inner win it all attitude anymore. He has all the money he will ever need. I say retire and move on to another racing sport. Trans Am, or even Formula 1... he can do it, proved it at Indy. In just 12 laps, he was matching the reknown Michael Shumacher's times. I just fear his heart isnt in it right now. Not saying he cant get it back. He has a new love interest... thats going great, and he is gettings WINS again. I felt Robbie hurt him for those few years. Yes they won the championship... but just think, what if Ray was still there. I know with every ounce of my being that Jeff would have at least five, but maybe six championships right now, had he stayed with Ray and vice versus.
I wont take a thing away from Tony tho. He does work hard. And he is a good shoe too. But until he matches Jeff in wins, championships, etc... he has some work left to do. And he isnt a young pup. He has made mention several times that when Home Depot is done, he will be done. He is laying out the ground work for his retirement from Cup already. He added another sprint car team this next year. Purchased Eldora and they are adding to that place. He moved back to his home town in Indiana... he is ready. And I wish they'd never made him take those darn anger management classes. We need tempers... we need hearts racing. Nascar fining drivers for swearing on the radio... hey, if you dont want to hear it, turn the channel!!!! Or shut it off. Just like those religeous channels asking you all to get rid of pornographic material.... hey, no one told you to look, or buy it. If you dont want it, dont get it. Racing is all about heart! Jeff, Tony and every racer out there has heart! You dont run 200 mph fender to fender with someone cause you are playing. This is the major leagues of motorsports. Let them race!!!! let them be human!!!
Now they want to take away the confedarate flags from the infields. Brian France had better be careful cause it was the SOUTH that invented Nascar racing and they are the majority of the fans that follow it!!! What next, a hair salon and nail techs at the track! Massage and sauna's ???? This is racing for goodness sakes!!! RACING ... and damn it, I LOVE IT
Sorry... darn good thing we made this soap box out of titanium!!!

| Nascar Chase - Who will Win Posted: 11/16/2005 9:20:42 AM | Sinjia~~Well, like I have said before, I grew up breathing racing! My Daddy was and still is a great influence in my life. So I must give credit where credit is due. He taught me well! You and Boxman know a lot about more than I do about Nascar but I can hold my own most of the time in the past, present and future of racing! I live for it!!! As for Tony....Eldora and moving home was the best that happened to him! He's a true blooded racer and always will be, regardless if he's racing or owning!
NHUGUY~Baby steps my dear!!!
Kuddlebum~~~Amen girl! I'm gonna need your help with these Hendrick fans here over the next few days!! Stay in touch!!!! Smoke all the way!!!!!!! Take care all; RaceChik20
