Better count me in as another person who has smoked pot for many years and yet managed a college degree and a relativly successfull career.. as a matter of fact I know more people that are likewise than the stereotype pot head that you expect
I believed him (sorry, forget his handle now) and I believe you. Having said that, I've yet to meet such a person. Too many live up to the stereotype for me to discount it outright. Maybe someday the scales will tip.
I can totally climb on board with the position that they were losers long before they started the pot, admittedly.

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 3/14/2006 5:43:27 PM | I'm not even sure why they put this question on the profile.
Have you ever actually seen someone who says yes?
I guess there might be the odd profile out there of some young kid that will say yes for a kick but I don't think I have actually seen it answered "yes" on any profile.
Who would ever really answer that question yes even if they did smoke pot or something occasionally.

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 3/14/2006 6:37:18 PM | OK - I'm not going to bother quoting and what not here. Just a couple of points.
You CAN get arrested in Canada for smoking pot. If you are fortunate enough to live in the Vancouver area, they don't usually bother - everywhere else they do although many cops won't bother if you get caught with a small amount - not worth the paperwork. Spreading misinformation like that can lead to people getting into a lot of trouble.
Secondly - to answer the OP's question (even though she is long gone).
Being dishonest is never a good thing however the question can be misleading for some because it is not always so cut and dry for reasons mentioned by other posters.
If you answer NO to the question then I would make sure you say something in your about me section explaining that you do toke.
If you are in a profession or something like that where this could get you in trouble then you might have to say no - but make sure you let potential dates know - BEFORE you meet them so you don't waste their time.
Myself - I answered "socially" and then specifically said I smoke pot but if you do any of the harder crap then stay away. Check my profile... I make no bones about it.
Honesty is alwasy the best policy when you're going to start a relationship... no sense needlessly pissing people off.
I've actually recieved messages from women who appreciated my candor and honesty about it.
'nuff said - peace! | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 3/14/2006 11:34:19 PM | Searching for another analogy, it occurred to me that I smoke a cigar almost every New Years. But I wouldn't put "occassionally" as an answer to the smoking question. In fact, I wouldn't contact anyone who does. As to functional pot users, most of my friends like to toke before mountain-biking. and when playing poker That would just make me tense or make me lose all my money, respectively. And they are a doctor, a lawyer, and an architect. (I hang out with my financial superiors. I'm the token blue-collar guy. LOL) | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 3/15/2006 5:32:30 PM | I'd say honesty is the key. Truth is you'll save yourself from meeting alot of uptight, uneducated sheep who will rail you for puffing a doob (using, not abusing) while they're pounding down their 5th martini and braggin about how wasted they are...
Besides...the only reason pot is illegal is because rope companies wanted to squash out the use of hemp...look it up sheep.
Cheers,
Dave
P.S. I will say that I honestly and truly believe that pot is the lesser of two evils if you look at their effects objectively.

You two are an anomaly. Kudos, though. I have yet to meet a pot smoker (of the regular variety) who was not sloth-like in both appearance and manner. You are proof of the existence of non-sloth potheads, certainly, but you and your pal are special and unique flowers in that capacity. I certainly wish for more of your kind.
Hardly an anomaly, my brother and one of my long time friends smoke on a regular basis, can't even tell when they're stoned or not...both hold down good jobs, both did very well in school...it's depression that make people lazy, not weed....
...shit, I guess I should answer yes because I like to drink some absinth now and then....but wait....that's "alcohol" and "drugs" all rolled in to one....I'm confused

I'm willing to bet you that you have met such a person. But since you have a negative opinion of marijuana, they won't tell you. Just like everyone who drinks alchohol isn't an unwashed bum with a red nose, not all pot smokers are unmotivaed loosers living in their parents basement.
It's a matter of perception- Case in point- I smoke pot, my roommate does not. For the first couple years of being roommates, every now and he would ask me a question and I wouldn't hear what he said. When I asked him to repeat, he usually made some sarcastic comment about my smoking pot and being out of it. He refused to believe me when I said it was him, not the pot, until his girlfriend moved in and she agreed with me that he mumbles alot. Because of his pre-conceptions, it was easy for him to dismiss my objections and blame the pot.

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/11/2006 10:56:55 AM | This is a stupid question to have on the Profile form anyway. Booze, Seratonin Uptake Inhibitors, Ritalin, Ciggs, are all more damaging than Pot. I put Prefer Not To Say and let others read between the lines. I'm dual, and thank gawd I live in Canada, where it is illegal to drug test most employees! If someone really is concerned about this they can put Must not do drugs in their prerequisets. Then you know they are uptight about it. | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/13/2006 10:46:39 PM | | Don't mention the fact that you might be a pothead. You might scare away a really nice guy who may think you are only after his twinkies. | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/13/2006 11:05:41 PM | | Honesty is always the best policy. I a relationship is predicated on half truths, or even untruths.....where will it go from there. I smoke pot , and include a brief line in my bio saying so in the hope of making contact with a like minded soul. If someone else does not smoke pot that is fine also. At least it lets them know a bit about me, and prevents a minor issue from being blown out of proportion later. | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/13/2006 11:49:54 PM | Pot is not a drug. Alcohol and cigarettes are actually drugs but they get their own question and a wider selection of possible answers. I smoke weed very rarely but, even if I smoked every weekend, I wouldn't answer yes to that question. The tweakers next door, those are addicts. Their lives are run by a strong chemical addiction that will ultimately cause severe medical problems. I just smoked a joint last weekend because it sounded like fun. It caused a severe nap. There's a difference. Hey, do you "not want children" Why, do you hate babies? | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/26/2006 5:49:17 PM | | I absolutely agree. Who cares what you say you do? People barely listen to each other as it is, and if they areso closed minded to judge how one lives with pleasure. stress, and money, then by all means allow them to put a straight-edge suit against against a recovering addict, but its no measure of who they are, their intelligence, or their potential. Do what you want. Stop worrying about what other poeple *might* be thinking. be there for yourself and the right person will come to you. | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/26/2006 6:19:05 PM | Their are some people who take different street drugs for purely medical purposes. The following abstract shows just one of many studies in the works for approval of the medical benefits of just 2 common street drugs.
Would anyone consider a person who was a partisipant in such a study to be a recreational drug user? Should they state "yes" if the only reason they are taking a particular "drug" is for the treatment of a disease?

I'm wondering should i answer yea to the question do i use drugs.I occassionally smoke pot.
I think it's important to be honest, and explain yourself if asked!
Me personally... I would like to know if a guy that I am interested in does a couple lines cause that would turn me right off and if I found out later...it would be over like that! I don't care if it's smoking the occasional joint but I wouldn't date a pot head either!

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/27/2006 12:54:37 AM | I think maybe they should ask "do you do drugs" ? and then right below that "do you do HARD drugs"?
There's a big difference! I'll reckon a good 80% or more of our population smokes pot or has smoked pot at some point. I do occasionally, but I won't say "I do drugs" in my profile because I know some people will think that means I shoot heroin or smoke crack. Also I agree with anyone who says "alcohol is a worse drug than weed", it makes you lose control of yourself. It causes car accidents. Not pot. So have another , it's ok because it's legal.

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/27/2006 1:38:48 AM | Hey message#5, why don't you go up to a cop and tell him you do drugs and then have the balls to pull out some of that weed you so proudly displayed on your profile... I just bet he would do something about it then. Freedom of speech, what a wonderful right, I mean if you're such a bad a$$ drug user, show the cop, don't just tell him. | |
|
| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/27/2006 3:13:32 AM | | Yes. If you're embarrassed or don't want people judging you, perhaps you could stop doing drugs -- then you could list no! The choice is really yours, but honesty is your friend, but remember that consequences come with that too. | |

| should i answer yes to do i use drugs? Posted: 9/30/2006 1:11:08 PM | Technically anyone who smokes or drinks should put down that they do drugs or anyone that has ever taken an advil. They're all drugs. I suppose it depends on how often you smoke pot and what not, and what you think. Some people don't realy see pot as a drug that you should put in there, especially if you're just a casual user. However there are probably some people out there who frown on drug use altogether, and I think the whole drug use question is on profiles so people who frown on drug use can avoid anyone that uses drugs.
I kind of think it would maybe be best to either put yes or no and explain that you only smoke pot occasionally in your profile. That way if anyone contacts you that dissapproves of drug use they can't say you didn't tell them.
