| When the Levy Breaks By: Led Zepplin thought to be related to hurricain Katrina??????????? Posted: 7/19/2007 8:25:13 AM | Being the diehardest Zeppelin fan that I like to think I am, (having read extensively on the history) I truly believe that the work in question is an overall metaphor of the direction that planet earth (in general) is headed towards, due to the ignorance of mankind in regards to the balance nature. To pinpoint any single act of god such as a hurricane, does'nt quite do justice to the song or the message, which was actually written by a black bluesman from the deep south in the late 1920's- early 1930's and describes the type of disasterous meteorological mayhem that the entire gulf region has been dealing with for many, many years. A fact of life for those who live in that part of the country, many of whom could not afford to live anywhere but a flood plain. On the other hand, it could be a look into one possible future for those who will surely suffer catastrophic loss if global warming is'nt immedeatly put in check.

Posted: 8/6/2007 2:26:33 PM | you...are...fools! this song was written by the memphis minnie. not led zeppelin. and it is not about katrina in any way, shape or form! the song "new orleans is sinking" wasn't a prediction either. gord downie (tragically hip) was just belting out some irony. and by that i mean: new orleans resides below sea level, and has for a very long ****in time. finally, zach wylde wrote In This River fro dimebag darell. not katrina... not katrina's victims... argh.

| When the Levy Breaks By: Led Zepplin thought to be related to hurricain Katrina??????????? Posted: 8/7/2007 1:14:13 PM | | This despite the fact that Hurricane Katriona was 2 years ago and Led Zep have been going since the 70's. Not quite sure how that relates unless God has a penchant for Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven (not to be ruled out). On a different topic, my favourite memory of When The Levy Breaks is sitting on a hot summer night outside a French Cite Universitaire drinking beer, smelling weed drifting in my general direction, listening to the above and watching an amazing thunderstorm. | |

Sorry, but I have laughed hard through this thread. Gee John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant taping into the psychic network in 1971. I think they predicted many green backs flowing into their bank accounts first......maybe they all thought they were Nostrodamus when they were dropping acid but predicting a disaster on another continent decades later? Did you notice them at any benefit concerts? Thanks for the laugh!!! lol
That is not actually true. The only person in the band who had drug problems was Page, he was a heroine addict in the few years leading up to Bonzo's death. None of the other band members did drugs aside from smoking weed. I wasn't even born then and I know this to be a fact, hell my parents were kids during the 70's. For a few years I was a die hard Zeppelin fan and studied deeply into their past and I know for a fact that Page was the only drug user in the band. He quit right after Bonzo died as well.
