| When the Levy Breaks By: Led Zepplin thought to be related to hurricain Katrina??????????? Posted: 8/25/2009 7:28:20 AM | The song was an accident according to the bio books. Bonham had tuned his drums a certain way and played the beat. Plant and the others like the sound so they started playing behind it. Plant whipped out the words from an older song just to have something to sing. He was known for this type of improvisation even in the early days.
It sounded so well they decided to record. What you are hearing in the track is a gig session for the most part. They were all in one studio room and there are minimal overdubs. Page was crazy behind the boards. He let little go without major re-working in the studio. This happens to be one of the few that made it without the re-working.

Bob Dylan did an interesting version on the original song(lyrics are a bit different but the theme is the same) called The Levee's Going to Break on Modern Times. I like Zepplins very soulfull take especially that harmonica but Dylan's sort of 50ish Johnny B Goode sound is somewhat refreshing.

Come on now. You can use any group's lyrics, and if you look hard enough can find parallels with anything. I'll bet Jefferson Airplane predicted September 11th, Weezer predicted the recession and Lady Gaga predicted that Transformers 2 was going to be a piece of shit. Next you're going to tell me Weird Al Yankovic predicted the end of the world, and Obama as the coming antichrist.
