They need to come out with a product that is like bachelor chow, all the flavorless affordable nutrients i need to live in one cereal box sized package, just add water...

Insomnolence,

You gotta get out more dude! Haven't you ever tried those camping/astronaut meals....Blech.

Now if you want flavourful, affordable, nutritious, all in one box just heat and eat....then head to either your nearest health food store or East Indian grocery store and pick up a box of Tasty Bite. Not only do you get an all in one meal....you get a tray and spoon too! You just boil the bags in water(or microwave in the handy tray) and Bon Appetit in 5 mins or less! And with a selection like...Sprouts curry with basmati rice, or Beans masala and basmati rice or Vegetable supreme and basmati rice, they are healthy to boot.

Now if you are willing to make your own rice there are the Vimal meals(bit more authentic Indian cuisine) - boil the bag and throw on minute rice if you like.

Honestly, they are yummy!

GOOD CALL BOGDOG!

PB & J! These are the staples of our childhood! PB is good with a few things! PB & Honey, PB & Banana (classic). A friend of mine likes the PB & Onion. AAWWWW! "Strangle Paste" he calls it! What a mix, i guess so. Strangling is the least of your worries i would think if your eating that.

i love to cook, and love sh*tty weekend days so i can spend time in the kitchen. i would go shopping and cook soup, stew, or a meat sauce. i can do that all day, then just freeze it. it's always there when i want it. but my favorite all time bachelor food is a sandwich, of any kind, or some good sharp cheese, a vine ripe tomato, some good italian meats, and a hard crusted italian bread. that's my type of bachelor meal.

Here is a favorite of mine..... it's tasty and low calorie so it fills the bill in several catagories. This is a chicken fajita recipe. I premake chicken breasts from a giant package I get at costco or Sam's. I prepare these either in the oven or BBQ and then freeze them to use as neccessary. This is nice so that if I am eating alone I remove 1 frozen and if I have guests I take more and adjust the other ingrediants as required.

Take a non-stick frying pan... saute a small amount of olive oil, a couple cloves of garlic, a pinch of red pepper. Add a sliced onion, julianes bell peppers, red, green, yellow or orange... the choices are yours and a few sliced mushrooms...... remove after the onions beging to brown.

I use the same skillet to heat corn tortillas till brown patches appear and they begin to firm up. I slice the heated chicken and VIOLA... a great dinner for about 450 calories, very filling and as healthy as you can get!

I like it hot so I often add Jalapenos, Anaheim Chilies or Pasilla Peppers. I use Chalula or the new garlic Tabasco as a sauce but you can use traditional salsa if your a light weight...

Enjoy

Well, time to re-revive an "older" thread... but it's either that or start a new one that's fairly related.

One of my favorite quick meals is to get some Wolf brand chili & cheddar cheese, empty into a bowl, microwave until cheese is melted, get some tortillia chips and there you have it.. only one bowl to clean.

My main issue is that any time I go shopping and get some food, half of it goes bad before I can eat it (ok, so I'm not home for that many meals)... So here's my question what about foods that don't expire too quickly. I'm getting pretty tired of the canned foods and frozen foods... I know how to cook, I'm a good cook, but it just feels like a waste when I end up throwing food away because I didn't eat it. Maybe I just need to not buy more than a couple days of food at a time (ugh, I hate the grocery store, haha).

Thanks for any suggestions :)

I have a sensible breakfast, a big travel cup of tea, and a cigar, then for lunch I eat a wholsome cup o soup, and a cigar, and a tea. then for supper I open up a can of beef stew and eat it it out of the pot. Then have a tea and a cigar. Sometimes I just say F it and just have the tea and cigars. I lost 30 lbs since my wife split, and I was wasn't a big guy to begin with. I hate cooking, and only do it if I have my kids. When I do cook, I make sure I use a good teflon pan so the clean up is easy. Oh yea, I hate doing dishes too, but would rather do dishes than cook.

Tried doing the canned/frozen/processed food thing, but just isnt me

Found I can whip up a bloody good feed in about 10 minutes
Anything longer than 15 minutes preparation time and I lose interest

I make up some pretty wicked sauces and freeze them
Real easy to nuke them and pour over something
Got plenty of herbs like Garlic Chives, fennel, basil, oregano parsley etc etc growing wild in the mess some call a garden, so I can disguise any mistakes real easy

Its easy to cook, you dont even need a recipe or a measuring cup. Its really all about experimenting, just dont go overboard. Here is a simple dish that takes literally 25 mins, and you will impress your friends if they pop over for Din, its tasty and healthy to boot:

Couple of Chicken breasts or turkey breasts,
Lemon Juice (squeezed from, you guessed it, lemons)
some chopped green onions (or scalions)
pepper
diced clove of garlic or garlic powder
table spoon of butter.

Basically, set the oven to 400 degrees.
while its warming up, put your poultry in a small oven dish, or you can even wrap it in tin foil. Rub the butter all over the meat, pepper it on both sides, squeeze the lemon juice over it all, put the onions all over and the cloves all over as well. Fold up the foil around it, or put a cover over the dish and put it in the oven for about 20 mins.

You can make a salad or some rice or whatever as a side. I frequently make this and its actually so simple. Try it out.

Hot dogs anyone?

The ultimate bachelor food. Hot, cold, on a bun, or not, just munch and survive.

But now since I have some cash and am older I spring for the more expensive Ball Park "all turkey franks" only 45 calories each and taste friggin great! Don't underestimate the Ball Park turkey frank until you tried it. They taste just like some smackin' as$ dogs!

If you like something quick, hot, and filling, toss two dogs on a paper towel in the microwave for 1 minute, take out, put in two buns for 20 seconds, take out, add your choice of condiments, EAT. Add another beer or two or 12 and repeat as necessary to sustain life. Use paper towel to wipe up the beer, ashes, or save for another round of dogs.

No plates, no utensils, no clean up, just food and some empties to fill up the trash bag with.

I'm a 40 year old bachelor and proud of it ...lol
A couple years ago someone gave me a soups and breads cookbook
and i make different soups now at least twice a week..
Most bachelors just dont like spending their time in the kitchen to do anything at all.
My favourite recipe is chicken breasts cooked in a garlic ginger sauce and served on top of egg noodles

Almost every weekend, I make a point of cooking a really good, slap-up meal for myself from scratch.

Usually, it involves either beef or chicken...

1. Pan fry a sirlion steak / diced chicken breast for a few minutes, just to seal the meat on both sides (steak) / all over (diced chicken)...

2. Slice thinly / dice a medium to large onion, and a couple of mushrooms...

3. Once the steak / chicken has been sealed, add the onion and mushrooms, and cover the pan...

4. Allow the liquid in the vegetables to evaporate, and keep an eye on the steak / chicken / vegetables to ensure they don't burn (stir the vegetables regularly, and turn the steak / chicken when doing so)...

5. Once the liquid has almost evaporated, add half a cup of stock, and follow step (4) as above...

6. Once the stock has reduced, it's almost time to dish up...

Now, here's how I "live on the edge" and make variations

a. If I'm having the steak, I'll serve it with chips / fries...

b. If I'm having the chicken, I'll serve it with rice, which (having boiled it beforehand) I'll add to the pan before serving, coating the rice in the reduced stock / vegetables / chicken mixture (I find this makes the rice much tastier)...

c. Single cream is an (occassional) added extra, which, again, I'll add to the pan just before serving to heat it up.

Et voila! Enjoy!

Wow, I've made myself hungry typing out my recipe! Thank goodness it's almost the weekend!

Grab an egg put in small bowl with a blob of cream cheese
microwave until cooked (dont worry the cream cheese keeps the egg from smelling like a fart!)
put cooked egg in a soft tortilla on a paper towel
add salsa
add grated cheese (dont worry you can get it in a bag at the grocery store pre grated! no grater to wash!!)
maybe a little black pepper
microwave until cheese melts
VOILA!!! breakfast burrito!!
total dishes: 1 bowl to wash

Having spent a number of years as a cook then a chef, I can whip together some pretty good stuff. That being said, however, I still go for the easy bachelor-type food from time to time. I have a lot of recipes that are a can of this, a can of that, a can of the other thing, etc that really work nicely. I also have a few favorite instant meals as well. Zatarains makes really good jambalaya and dirty rice(add water and meat), Sapporo Ichiban instant ramen and yakisoba will always be found in my kitchen, and the occasional heat & serve meal like stouffer's mac & cheese work well when I don't feel like expending the effort to make those things from scratch. You'll also always find plenty of fresh apples, cheese, crackers, and cherry koolaid. Oh, and never less than a couple bottles of wine and a decent supply of beer in case the mood strikes or company comes over.

LOL .... I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one in the world who does this!!! My tv is not a big screen and I have a very large living room. Can't watch the hockey game from the couch cause tv is too small, can't follow the puck cause it's even smaller, so I have to sit in a lawn chair in front of the tv to watch the game.....

For dinner... microwave tomato basil rice cakes with cheddar cheese...mmmm good! Doesn't get any easier than that!
