| Bachelor food Posted: 1/8/2009 5:26:03 PM | A few slices bacon fried in a good sized fry pan... set on paper when done. In same pan pour in a cup or two frozen hash browns fry 'til golden, when done crack in an egg or three, seasonings of choice, sliced green onion (and/or a handful of frozen peas) and crumbled bacon. Stir fry 'till egg is all cooked.
A little grated cheese on top and eating straight from the pan are optional

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/8/2009 8:05:31 PM | | Im totally into the quick stuff these days. I have to start cooking again. Its mostly Michelenas for me. | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/8/2009 11:07:56 PM | My current favorite is home-made pizza except I use store-bought pre-made pizza crust. While the toaster oven and pizza stone is pre-heating, I prepare the ingredients - onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, pizza sauce, shredded cheese, and a little olive oil. Pop that into the toaster oven for 12 minutes @ 425deg. Way better than frozen pizza. | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/10/2009 10:58:21 AM | O.P. I like eating well, but don't really like to cook (read "do the dishes") every day.
My answer?
Tupperware. I cook up a storm one day a week (or two depending) and put it all in tupperware...a week's worth of lunches and dinners, half in the fridge, half in the freezer. Anytime I want something simple to eat, it's there...microwave one of them nap makers, and it's game on!
I gave up on trying to "eat as I go" as soon as I got my own place and my own kitchen. The sky is the limit...(actually budget and freezer capacity have a LOT more to do with it than the weather...but you get my point).
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 1/10/2009 11:23:13 AM | Cooking is hard for just one person, unless it is something you love and can freeze it and eat it over and over. But for me, if I cannot microwave it, or put it between slices of bread, I dont eat. I also eat lots of fruit, apples, bananas, and Ilove thos ecanned mandarin oranges. | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/10/2009 12:20:44 PM | | Really...bachelors don't have to cook every day..as long as they don't mind thawing things out of the freezer. Suppose you make a full pan of lasagna...divide it up..and put lunch or dinner sized portions in one of those plastic pans you were so smart to save from the frozen dinner you bought at the supermarket a couple weeks ago. Pop it in a zip lock bag..and you've got at least 7 meals out of that full pan of lasagna. Getting enough fresh veggies is a problem though..so making it a point of stopping by the vegetable counter is a priority, and just buy things you enjoy raw. Green peppers, Grape Tomatoes, Carrots, even Broccoli are good to munch on..(maybe you'll need some vegetable dip to choke down the Broccoli, LOL) | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/10/2009 12:58:25 PM | | I cook. I tend to make big batches of things and then eat them during the times when I don't feel like cooking, so I don't really do the whole, "I'm a single guy so I'm gonna binge on random shit" thing. | |

I have little sympathy for the 'bachelor' syndrome. Anyone can cook if they apply themselves. Maybe they are not hungry enough. I will admit that I have only read a small portion of this thread so far, but I disagree strongly with this sentiment. I can cook (quite well when I really apply myself), but when I'm the only one eating, it's hard to get the motivation. The overhead (prep, cleanup, etc.) just doesn't seem worth it for one meal. It's sometimes more cost-effective just to grab some fast food on my way home, or I'll often skip the meal.
I also like to occasionally do something like prepare some chicken, and then use it for several meals. It works great by itself, in a sandwhich, on salad, in a quesadilla, or many other places. However, after a few days, I get tired of it.

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/12/2009 8:03:47 AM | I have to say that I have no sympathy for a bachelor who simply refuses to cook for himself. To me its just plain laziness. My 14 yr old says thats what his thing is. He says he's not gettin' married either, so its gonna be fast food for him when he's alone after grandma dies. I asked him, what about a housekleeper if you're working all the time? His response, then I'd have to marry her, MOM! I had to learn to cook for myself. I couldn't afford to go out and eat all the time. It was either cook or starve to death. And believe me ketchup sandwiches were not even close to being gross enough. LMAO! I have so many cookbooks now, I don't have an excuse to not cook good decent food. | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/12/2009 8:21:34 AM | hey guys when i moved out my mum gave me a slow cooker and a reci book , what can i say momma know best . | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/24/2009 12:02:48 PM | | If anything constitutes a single male's supper, it has to be a pound of Buffalo wings, sliced celery and carrots with a bleu or creamy parmesan dip. Make this myself often, except I bake rather than deep fry the wings. | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/24/2009 4:05:05 PM | Go down to your local Value Village or something of the sort and get yourself a slowcooker , maybe a couple different size ones. I've been living on my own for about 2 years now and use them about 3 times a week: Some begginer no fuss ideas: -Throw in meetballs before work with some barbeque sauce -Canned crushed tomatos, canned whole tomatoes and a cheap can of spghetting sauce, spices, and some T.V.P (look it up!), and you got yourself a delicious spghetti sauce -Ham with pineapple (add potatos and carrots too if you really want) -Pulled Pork (Pork Shoulder + BBQ sauce) -Throw some beef broth in, cubed beef and a can of that canned beef stew, and you got yourself a mighty stew brewing..
Truly you only will have one dish to clean and a homemade meal.
Added bonus:If you finally get the courage to talk to that girl you have a crush on, invite her over for dinner, she'll love it.. Might not be a bachelor for to much longer my friend..

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/24/2009 7:33:10 PM | I'm trying to learn to cook. But mainly I eat pasta, like mac and cheese or something else easy to cook. I guess I should have paid more attention when I was married to how my wife cooked. I don't eat out that often so I mostly try to cook something with easy directions like Boiling water lol. Kinda sucks being a single bachelor but I like my freedom. | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 1/24/2009 8:18:03 PM | You are allowed to go to a book store and buy cookbooks dawg... There should be books to fit your skill level, buy one. Then follow the directions. You'll be impressing yourself in no time, and eating something besides pasta.

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/25/2009 5:49:56 AM | I bought a 7 lb smoked pork shoulder (ham) @ .79 cents a pound.
I have it in the oven for 3 hours...no fuss its done
Ill have 5 lbs of ham for about 1.00$ a pound.
ready for the rest of the week for sanwiches and dinner dishes.
Ill half the meat, put put in storage bags...leave some in the fridge and freeze some.
I do the same for chicken and beef.
I pan fry(sear) chicken breasts and cook slowly on stove top, let cool then slice...use again for sandwiches and add sliced chicken to pasta or rice dishes.
I used to live out of motel rooms months at a time, in places that didnt have much choice of places to eat, so I learned to grill meats and veggies on sunday, store in the fridge and when Id come "home" Id make a box rice or pasta dish in the microwave and add grilled meat and veggies, green salad and I had a good meal at a good cost.

| Bachelor food Posted: 1/25/2009 10:23:40 AM | poached egg on toast is part of my staple diet of bachelor-ism. Haha. I don't even take the time to 'really' poach it. Just fill a little dessert bowl to about 1/3 with water, crack an egg in there and nuke it for a minute. | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 1/25/2009 5:04:06 PM | | I think there is a difference between..not knowing how to~ or, not liking to cook; and not liking to eat...thats a whole different can of worms. | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 1/25/2009 7:39:52 PM | | I cook on a george foreman grill, ultimate bachelor cooking device. I usually cook chicken and fish on it, Salmon steaks are my favorite. I also have a crock pot which I cook stew, and lots of other stuff. You cook enough and you get leftovers. | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 1/26/2009 10:26:51 AM | | You know, just an fyi. Cleaning the pan is pretty easy if you use a paper towel while the pan is still hot. The eggs come right off, and avoids the PITA effort of having to scrub them off later ;-) | |
